This is my pure unbiased opinion on the akaso v50x. I have had this camera for a few days now but have done extensive testing with it, I will be comparing it to the original akaso v50. It might be worth noting that it might better be compared to the akaso v50 pro or the akaso v50 elite however since I have never had any hands-on experience with those cameras I cannot give a reliable comparison between them. In comparison to the akaso v50 this camera is great. New features such as touchscreen, gyroscope, and better hardware / software makes this camera a definite step up. The touch screen is easy to use and it allows you to quickly navigate to settings in a convenient way that the analog buttons on the old camera did not allow, however you can still use all the analog buttons on the new camera to access all the features which may not seem like much but when you are using the camera with the case on it provides a much-needed ability i.e. underwater As far as image stabilization / gyroscope it works very well definitely better than the old akaso v50 with videos looking smoother than ever especially on RC cars / airsoft guns. Not to say that it’s as good as a go pro or dji but at a fraction of the cost it works. In comparison to the akaso v50 they both record up to native 4K 30fps however since the akaso v50x gives you WDR and other improvements to the picture quality it looks better weather that’s the colors or the sharpness or just the overall quality it just looks better. One thing which threw me off was the camera, on paper the akaso v50x can only shoot 12mp pictures while the old akaso v50 can shoot 20mp I guess they had to cut corners somewhere right? Well turn out I was wrong even though the mp is lower, in my opinion with the new technology the picture actually looks better than the old. I compared bright light photos, low light photos and average pics and was surprised to see that the akaso v50x did better. Also worth mentioning is the audio quality which was surprisingly good not perfect but for an action camera it did well. Akaso also give you lots of connectors and adapters to get you started they don’t give you everything but it is nice to have something rather than nothing. The batteries which come to this are also a big plus at 1350 milliamps it will last you longer then you are traditional batteries. The remote control seems to work well and unlike old akaso v50 you do not have to pair the remote to the camera however, I would say that the old remote felt a bit more classy a little better made I guess. Other things I liked where are the 4X zoom which doesn’t seem like a lot but on an action camera this price range is a nice addition. The slow motion at 720P 120fps is nice along with the 1080p 90fps however you are not going to get those super slow videos but it does work. All the other camera modes work well and are easy to access. The waterproof casing seems rugged nothing super extraordinary but it gets the job done. Pro’s Inexpensive for the quality Lots of adapters/connectors Good photo/video quality Decent audio quality Good image stabilization 2 1350 milliamp batteries 4x zoom Touchscreen Easy to understand operating It feels like a quality product not just like a brick of plastic. Cons 12mp camera Audio isn’t perfect Slow motion could be better Cheap feeling controller Not a very big zoom Batteries can get a little warm after prolonged usage. In short if you’re looking for a action camera for the price this one’s pretty hard to beat. When you compare it to the original akaso v50 it’s a definite step up.Read more

The media could not be loaded. I had been considering buying an action camera for a few years, but really couldn’t justify the expense of a new GoPro. After researching the available clones, I purchased an Akaso V50X a little over a week ago. I have not been disappointed. The camera feels and looks very well made. It comes with a number of accessories, including a waterproof case, mounting adapters, a wrist remote, and a pair of 1350 mAh batteries with a charger that can charge both at the same time. As long as you have, or buy a micro sd card, you can get started using the V50X as soon as you open the package. It’s pretty easy to figure out how to use by poking around with the menus and using the online pdf manual. The video quality has really impressed me and that’s really what it’s all about. I have only shot in 4k at 30 frames per second, so can’t speak about other resolutions. At this point I don’t really see a reason to shoot at lower resolutions. The only issue I’ve had with the video is a bit of chromatic aberration that shows up as magenta fringing in some lighting situations, but I’ve found that I can easily remove this with editing software. Image stabilization appears to work well and the gyroscope setting really makes videos appear to have been shot with the camera mounted on a gimbal. The touch screen works great and is pretty intuitive. Touch is not available while the camera is in the waterproof case, but the physical buttons work fine to control operations. As others have pointed out, the sound recording volume leaves a bit to be desired. As I’ll generally be using the camera in the waterproof case, the built in mic wouldn’t be picking up much anyway. I see that there is now an external mic available for the V50X, so at some point I may pick one up for out of case use. I’ve tried all of the smart phone apps that are supposed to be compatible with the V50X and have not been able to get any of them to work. At best they start up and then just freeze. It would be nice to have the option of controlling the camera with a smart phone, but not having this is not a game changer for me. The camera works great using the physical buttons, the touch screen, and the wrist remote, all of which I find much more useful. A number of the reviewers have mentioned that they were disappointed that the highest resolution available for still photography is 12 megapixels, but my resolution menu shows up to 20 mp. As I generally travel with a couple of DSLR’s, I don’t really expect to be using the V50X for a great deal of photography. As a note, when I purchased the camera I also bought a SanDisc 128 GB Micro SD card (SanDisk 128GB Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter – C10, U3, V30, 4K, A2, Micro SD – SDSQXA1-128G-GN6MA ). Although the Akaso documentation recommends a 64 GB card, the camera readily recognized the 128 GB card and can access the full storage. I am very impressed with the Akaso V50X. I seriously doubt that you could find an under $100 action cam that has as many features and works as well. So far I am very happy with my choice. Pros: Video quality The abundance of included accessories The variety of image capture modes Image stabilization/Gyroscope Under $100 Cons: (see update) Audio recording quality Unusable smart phone apps * UPDATE: I finally got to put the V50X through a real test. My first day back on snow wound up being a storm day. I was actually working (some jobs are a bit more fun than others), so just clipped the camera to my radio chest pack and used it on every run. – The camera performed great, stayed dry in it’s case, and the sound recording was way better than I’d found in my first trials. As that was pretty much the only downside in my initial review, I changed my rating from 4 stars to 5. I can easily live without a smartphone app. – After about 45 minutes of recording in 4K30fps with image stabilization and gyroscope on, the battery level still showed 1/4 of a charge. * Hint: You can pick up a package of assorted length wire fishing leaders for a couple of dollars and make leashes to work for any mounting situation. – I am completely happy having chosen this awesome action cam.Read more

This is my first action camera and I’m not disappointed. The Akaso V50X action camera is a very good piece of equipment for the price. It is an affordable, has a lot features and It comes with a lot of mounts. In the box you will find 2 batteries and one charger that can charge both batteries a the same time. I use it mostly during my bicycle rides. It fits perfect in the helmet to or the handlebar. The resolution quality is very good but the sound needs some improvement. I love the remote, it make easy to take picture and videos during riding. A waterproof case is include, but unfortunately I have not tested it yet. I believe this is a good and affordable choice.Read more

This is an upgrade to our Akaso V50 Pro we already have and man this camera great! I really like the touch screen as well as how you can change the width of what you can record. The battery life, hours of recording, and video quality is very reasonable as well, similar to other higher end brands. If you’re needing an action camera to vlog or take on vacation I highly recommend this brand and this particular model. The price point is perfect for novices and even those who are used to the “brand who shall not be named”. I think the only thing I would like that this doesn’t have is instead of the waterproof casing to make the camera itself waterproof. Maybe in the future? Overall this is a great little camera and I highly recommend it as well as the company. They’re very easy to work with and respond to questions in a timely manner. This is our 3rd Akaso we’ve purchased from them and I’m sure it’s not the last! They’re so reasonably priced that all of my teenagers can have their own camera to record vacations and school projects.Read more
