I was able to drill three holes in 3/16ths thick steel with the 1/4 inch bit, using proper technique, speed, and lubrication. The first hole went reasonably well, the second hole took a lot longer, and the third hole took about 5 minutes. I doubt that I could drill another hole with it no matter how much time I took to do it. I first drilled a 1/8th inch pilot hole before using the quarter inch bit. Honestly, the performance that I saw with this bit is worse that I would expect from an ordinary high speed steel bit. The weekend prior to this one, I had used a real Cobolt 5% bit and drilled at least 20 holes with it, and it was still cutting well, so I know that I am using proper technique. This was a complete waste of time and money on my part.Read more

IF YOU ARE DRILLING THROUGH STAINLESS: based on years of experience, you need to go slowly and with firm pressure to drill through stainless or other high-density metals. Strike the metal with a center punch first to get a guide-dimple. Start with a small bit first, for example 1/8″ or 9/64″ if possible to make things easier. Then start the bit slowly with firm pressure until it starts to chew the metal out. If you start to see spiral squiggly coils of metal coming out, YOU ARE DOING IT RIGHT! If you see smoke, YOU ARE GOING TOO FAST! If you start out fast, even with oil, you will burn the bit and ruin it very quickly. If you learn to slow your drilling pace, any good bit will last quite a long time. Technique is EVERYTHING my friend. Also: I recommend synthetic 10w30 motor oil over cutting oil, as the chemicals in the cutting oil are corrosive and will eventually cause unwanted corrosion in the holes. The synthetic motor oil will not. I didn’t know what to expect with these if they would be good or bad, but they turned out to be great. These are definitely genuine cobalt coated bits at an unbeatable price.Read more

After researching drill bits that will cut hard steel, I found this set to be the only reasonably priced one on the internet, and ordered it accordingly. Very prompt service, nicely packaged (Prime), and just the sizes I needed. Have a small number of rivets to drill out of a steel frame, 8 to be exact. Using progressive drilling method (small pilot, gradually increase to full size), drills worked well, did the job. But failed after 5 rivets were drilled out; dulled, would no longer cut. Don’t know what to do now. Order another set? I’ll start shopping again, both internet and local industrial tool suppliers to see what I can find. No issues with the vendor, just the product.Read more

I bought these drill bits to drill a few holes in the bottom of a stainless steel utensil holder, for use as a grill vortex. Within five minutes, I’d managed to blunt four bits, snap one of them, and drill just five small holes. I don’t know what metals these will drill through, but for stainless steel they are definitely worthless.Read more

I bought these bits to drill a total of 52 bolt holes through 2-3/8″ fence posts (13 ga). I was expecting lower-quality bits, so I ordered this 5-pk and hoped for the best. I also ordered some cutting oil to use on the bits based on some other reviews I read – I couldn’t believe how much it really helped! I loaded up the first bit and started drilling holes using the cutting oil. After about 32 holes the first bit wasn’t cutting very well, so I retired it. The second bit finished drilling the rest of the holes and was still cutting well. The end result after the 52 through holes (104 total surfaces) was that I used about one and a half bits, so I still have 3 new bits left. I will probably use the “used” bits for wood and/or softer metal. Saved me a bundle versus buying individual bits at the big box store.Read more

I have used these quite a bit in my daily work. I bought 2 sets of them and I use them to start and enlarge holes in broken bolts for extraction from the bolt hole, using various extractors. I start with smaller bits, and successively increase bit size prior to extractor insertion. After drilling, I use burr bits to remove more metal from the bolt , depending on size of bolt and size/type of extractor. The drill bits work well, as I work with steel bolts. I’ve broken a few bits, and I’ve gone through a few more, over time they get dull… I am impressed with the durability, as opposed to other bits I have used. If I was working with any material other than steel or metal, these bits might last quite a while. But for my heavy industrial use, I was impressed with these cobalt bits. The price is fantastic for the set of bits. These work as well as pricier cobalt bits, so I was happy with my purchase. I appreciate the value. If I require more, this is what I’ll get.Read more

These drill bits are durable and a good value for the money. You do have to hold your drill properly and not overly force the smaller bits, but they hold up well with proper use. For stainless steel, dimple the target hole and start small, working your way up to the right size you would like. I am very satisfied with these bits and they are serving me well.Read more

This is a pretty good deal especially as compared to the price I had to pay at the big box store for just a single 1/4″ bit. And that was a “stainless steel” bit from Home Depot cost 5x the price, yet it worked very poorly on stainless steel (see pic). The first of the Amoolo bits I tried also did not seem to work on stainless, but the second was great, and bit into stainless steel pretty well. It may be a bit hit or miss with some of these lower cost bits, but it is still a deal as you get plenty of bits.Read more
