I spent a long time researching guitar straps, and found the range of prices to be pretty broad. I finally decided I wanted to buy a high quality strap that would last, rather than buy two or three over time … “The Reticent” certainly fills that bill! I could’t be more pleased. This is thing has ‘top shelf’ written all over it, but it is quite understated – exactly what I wanted. The leather is nice and thick, but supple enough so that you can tell it will soften and age well. It is lined with soft pigskin leather, so there is no “raw” suede underside. As for build quality – this strap will probably outlive me! And oh yeah … you know all those “vintage” leather goods you see for sale these days; emulating the appearance of time-worn high quality? Well, this is how the real deal starts out … if you want the REAL deal, then it usually costs a little more – and I would recommend these straps to anyone who appreciates the good stuff, without hesitation. Save up your money, but this strap, and enjoy it for many years to come – it will just get better with age. One by one, I will definitely be putting Anthology Gear straps on all my guitars.Read more

When I strap on a guitar I often don’t know where the journey will take me but with The Reticent strap it feels like buckling up in the world’s most luxurious amusement park ride. I know I may be in for quite a ride but both myself and my guitar are safe, secure and comfortable for the duration. I use it with the newer Schaller S Locks and it’s a great combination, the locks were easy to install without needing to cut or widen any holes. If you like your guitar on the lower side you will want the jumbo tongue. I keep my guitar about it the middle and I am 6’ tall but I had to extend the strap about as far as it goes without the extension. Your typical cheap Planet Waves strap extends about six inches longer than this strap does, so just be aware of that. I am all around in love with this strap and it makes me want to play my guitar more just to feel that feeling of putting it on. And it can be hard to put the guitar down, too, it’s just so comfortable I can play longer than I can even my good Levy’s straps without my body aching. Definitely a game changer.Read more

“The Reticent” 3″ Carbon Black Straight forward, simple, understated style. Black. CLASSIC. Top quality leather at a reasonable price. What else could you want. Wasn’t sure what “carbon” black would look like – but it’s BLACK. (“how much more black could this be? None.”) After years (decades, actually) of using 2” canvas-type straps, I switched to leather straps a few years ago, and there’s no going back. No $mall task when you own many basses. I’ve purchased leather straps from “the big three” for my various basses. All are just fine, but I never found the perfect strap. And after reading the various descriptions of all those straps; genuine leather, Italian leather, garment leather, boot leather, corinthian leather, I did a little research to find out what all this meant. I found Full Grain Leather was the best quality – so that’s what I wanted – but not easy to find. That’s what led me to Anthology Gear. I also purchased the Anthology “Straight up” in the aged steel, but the Reticent in Carbon Black is now my “signature” strap. I will definitely purchase again (and again) as my bass collection grows. You can immediately tell the quality of this strap far exceeds the rest.Read more

I purchased this for a heavy Les Paul guitar. Upon receiving it, I was impressed how well-made it is. Honestly, it’s probably the highest quality strap I have ever seen. It’s heavy duty and really well made. I needed a longer strap, so also purchased the matching “Anthology Gear Jumbo Tongue Full Grain Leather Guitar Strap Extension”. This was equally very high quality and the color matched great. If there is any negative to this strap, it might be that it is quite thick and stiff. Keep in mind however this is because it is real leather and heavy duty. I highly recommend the Anthology brand- good stuff!Read more

I purchased this guitar strap as a gift for my daughter’s upcoming birthday. Since guitar straps are something that are subjectively judged, I have no way, presently, to know how much she will like it, but she recently purchased a particularly exceptional instrument that was quite expensive. I noticed that she had a nice, but fairly inexpensive strap on it, and felt that she would enjoy something a bit more special. This strap is of excellent construction with first class materials, precise stitching and much attention to detail. It is sedate and understated, with simple, sophisticated appeal. The outer portion is soft probably at least top grain leather and the inner lining is pig skin. It came packaged with a distinctive burlap sack in a cardboard box. I anticipate that she will be quite pleased with this gift.Read more

This guitar strap is nice to look at but it has a few issues worth mentioning to the potential buyer. First, the leather is a bit thick and is fairly uncomfortable until you break it in. But the big “gotcha” for me at least is the length. I use mine on an acoustic Martin guitar and the length when fully extended is about a foot too short. That’s the added length that it would take to wear this guitar down to where it rested on your stomach area. Nice look, it will last a lifetime but the length is something to consider before buying.Read more

Absolutely beautiful strap! I bought the 3 inch version of this strap to support my new Gibson Les Paul that weighs 10lb and it really takes the weight off your shoulders. It is so well made! Thick leather with nice padding and superb stitching everywhere including the strap button holds. I believe this strap will last a lifetime. Why use cheap straps when you can invest in one high quality strap that will last you forever. This is worth the price!!Read more
