We’ve always used the OEM filters from GE at about $40-$45 each from Amazon. For us they go about a year until the visual timer says time to replace. We decided to try an after-market brand as a test to see how it would go for a clone filter at under $10 each. Not sure if these non-OEM filters use the same charcoal filtering compound as the Aquacrest nor do we know how long this filter will last as it begins to filter and eventually become somewhat restrictive of flow as our OEM GE filters did when they were close to replacement. These Aquacrest filters are well made, but, noticeably lighter in weight when new and not yet filled of water. The OEM GE filters are uch heavier in hand before use. Is it the housing or what s inside for filtering material? Not sure. OK so after this comparison, I will say that these filters are totally leak free and fit perfectly and once you “flush” them using perhaps 8 quarts of waters to be sure they are ready for use and purged, the water is as good and fresh and neutral in taste as the GE brand. Ok,…so at under $10 a filter versus 4-5X that amount for an original GE, I am totally ok replacing these filters more often as needed and still be saving a lot over buying the pricey single GE filters. I am betting that you will see the GE original GSWF filters go down in price accordingly. So why not 5 stars? This is the first use of these non-oems and time will tell if all goes well. Filters do a good job of cleaning particulates and chemicals from our water, but compared to the stock GE filter, the water does not seem to be quite as “fresh and crisp”. Water seems to go stale just a little quicker, but for the price difference, I’m happy enough with these filters. If you are really picky, though, I’d say go with the originals and just budget in the $80 or so per year that that will cost you.Read more

Home Depot wanted 2x for this type of filter, our ice make is crystal clear. I would recommened running 1 gal of water through it before hooking it up to the ice maker. I cut the line on the back of the fridge and installed simple push-in 1/4 inch on/off valve, then turn the water on and filled up a bucket (black water at first), then installed the the other end of the tubing to the on/off valve.Read more

this is an less expensive alternative to the GE GSWF SmartWater. did not know there is other brands out there in the market. it happens to be that when i went to home depot they run out of “GE GSWF SmartWater filter” then tried on amazon and found this. is this better than the “GE GSWF SmartWater Filter”, for taste i do not see any difference, water color there is also no difference, how long it last also no difference. for the price this is a door buster and saves you money.Read more

Did not work as a replacement for GSWF on my Ge Profile, it looked the same and I seated and it snapped into place but just kept leaking. I placed original back in and no leak so they did not work for me.Read more
