As a very satisfied owner of the Arlo Pro camera the Arlo Video Doorbell was my first choice. While the Arlo Pro camera is great the doorbell isn’t, so I ultimately decided to return it. The installation was straight forward connecting it to my existing Arlo Hub. I noticed a very significant delay of around 30 seconds, which made two way communication unworkable. I tried the alternative method of connecting the doorbell directly to my WiFi, which reduced the lag to a bearable 2 seconds. A search showed that these lags are common. During the activation I got suspicious of the mandatory signup for a three months of Arlo Smart, which includes among other things a 30 day cloud storage for videos. After some reserach I found the information on the Arlo website. It is very hidden, after the free trial the only way to maintain free cloud storage is a paid subscription. By this point most customers are beyond their free return period. While it is possible to use local storage connected to the Arlo Hub, this is not workable to the long video lags. Here is the important information which I eventually found on the Arlo support website: What options will I have when the Arlo Smart 3-month trial plan ends? Arlo Smart When the Arlo Smart 3-month trial that was included with your Arlo camera purchase ends, you have the option to purchase an Arlo Smart Premier or Elite plan. You can also choose not to have a service plan. For purchasing options, visit Arlo Smart Plans. Without a service plan, your Arlo camera will continue to have the following features: – Remote and local live streaming – Push notifications – Auto Zoom and Tracking* – Two-way audio – Local storage recording* If you own legacy Arlo cameras (Pro 2, Pro, Wire-Free, Go, Q Plus, Q, and Baby), they will revert back to No Subscription, which includes rolling 7-day cloud recording, along with all the same features and benefits as before.Read more

I bought this thing with high hopes but was very disappointed in the end. I followed all the instructions to install it and got to the point where you turn the power on and connect it to your network. When I did that, I didn’t get the expected white LED lights on the doorbell. I got some other version that indicated a problem. When I went to find out what the lights meant, the first time I read that I had an inadequate transformer. Great! So my first issue with this system is that it can’t work with transformers that are already in your house. You have to have a special transformer on your doorbell. If you have anything other than a modern home, you might want to check your transformer before getting this doorbell. Apparently there is not enough power in the standard transformer for this item. So I went out and bought a transformer and replaced the old one. I measured the output and confirmed it was providing enough power. Plugged the camera back in and then nothing! The camera was now dead. Apparently the internal battery died. Or at least that what the troubleshooting guide told me. It recommended leaving it plugged in for 13 minutes to allow the battery to charge back up. But it never did. The camera never again showed any signs of life. It was just dead. So after I returned the camera, all I’m left with now is a shiny new transformer on my doorbell. In today’s world, people expect things to just work. I don’t want to have to troubleshoot anything. I just want to plug it in and walk away happy. I don’t want to have to go buy an extra item to make it work. I don’t want to have to open the troubleshooting guide. I don’t want to have to take out a voltmeter to figure out if I have the right voltage. Just make it work!Read more

Update: Finally resolved most of the video issues by connecting directly with WiFi and bypassing the Hub. This means I can’t use the doorbell with Homekit, but at least it records useable video. The audio is still delayed and pretty much useless, but no one wants to talk through my doorbell anyways. ********** Started off fine, but 3 months in and it can’t record a single video without glitches, pauses, green pixel artifacts, and garbled audio. Do not try to use the intercom feature. It will never work. You can’t hear the person without a significant delay, then your voice is impossible for the person to understand, and it never works. Also, since the camera is hardwired, it’s really hard to restart it. You have to pop it open, pull it away from the wall, and then push the pinhole button to completely reset it. That means you have to re-add it to your hub/setup. So, instead of a simple restart to try to fix the video / audio problems, you have to reset it completely. The Arlo support is abysmal. Arlo has somehow ensured that any and all searches only pull up their KB pages. And those pages are next to useless to troubleshoot any problems. I can’t find a single support page that addresses my poor video and audio issues. I haven’t tried competing products because I am already invested in Arlo (6 cameras and doorbell) and I did not want to add another hub/app to my setup. But, I wish I had just purchased another camera and skipped the video doorbell all together.Read more

Had an August cam that died prematurely on me. Decided to go with the ARLo doorbell cam as I had the ARLO cameras already in place and working perfectly. First Arlo doorbell cam I purchased would not detect wifi. Returned and got a replacement. Again, no wifi detection. Purchased a new router thinking that was the issue. No go. The installation process is cumbersome and product is half baked. It’s a shame, I have 5 Arlo cameras that work perfectly but this doorbell is just not good. Returning second one and giving another brand a chance. Amazon has been great! ARLO support and doorbell installation process is a joke.Read more

Hard to say why some other people found it difficult to install this doorbell, but in my case it took 20 minutes. The step-by-step instructions (available on the app) were simple and clear. The only problem I encountered was that the wires to the existing doorbell were a bit short, so connected them to the back of the Arlo devise was awkward. The doorbell comes with extension wires and marettes, but there wasn’t enough room behind the camera for the marettes so I couldn’t use them. One reviewer complained about the cost of rolling 30-day cloud storage and suggested that it costs $13-15/month. Wish I knew where he got that from because it clearly says on the website that the cost is $2.99/mo in the U.S. and $3.99/mo. in Canada. That strikes me as reasonable. I’m currently using the Arlo doorbell at one of our properties. I’m impressed, so I’m planning to install one at another property. Yes, it would be nice if the unit was a bit smaller, but I can live with that.Read more

I knew nothing about video doorbells but saw that some neighbours had put them in. I asked my nephew what he knew. He has a competing brand and showed me the video quality on his phone. I was impressed so I started looking at all the choices online. Many of the reviews and ratings videos were contradictory so it was hard to know which was the best choice. I went with the Arlo because it was in a good price range and had decent video quality. It has a subscription plan unlike some of the others but the cost seems reasonable after a free 3 month trial period. It was delivered quickly after ordering and arrived in commercial packaging in perfect condition. I had bought the angle bracket for it as well to give me a better field of view. I found clear instructions online on how to install the Power Kit in the chime box of the old doorbell but I had to switch the wires because I had put them in wrong way around the first time. Installing the doorbell meant taking out the old one and using its wires on the Arlo after drilling two new holes and attaching the Arlo doorbell to the new angle bracket. Installation was pretty easy. I flipped the circuit breaker back on and the Arlo lit up. Then I tried connecting using the downloaded smartphone app. It did not work properly at first until I switched the wires on the Power Kit as mentioned and entered the correct WiFi password (!) After fiddling around for what seemed ages, it finally worked! Then it was fun playing with the new images on the cellphone and learning about its features. My wife likes it so I’ll install the app on her smart phone, too. Since our needs are limited for security, I might not need the subscription service after the 3 month free trial but I have time to decide that. There is a 2 to 3 second lag on the audio when speaking on the phone to the Arlo speaker. All in all it was a good experience and I can recommend the Arlo Video Doorbell.Read more

The doorbell had good quality and a great wide angle. That being said, the notification and time to load was not really great. I have very quick network speeds, and good connection to the router, but the video would take too long to load.Read more

I have very quick network speeds, and good connection to the router, but the video would take too long to load.Read more

wanted to love this so much but when we actually needed it to record video of someone checking out doors and windows the video was all grainy and pixilated. Reached out to arlo support and it their a absolute joke and offered no help at all. Was going to buy additional cameras from them but not anymore. Will be returning the camera and i recommend no one else use them.Read more

I am supper happy with product. I love the night vision. One thing to know is make sure QR code is in full view and whole thing you are able to see it. Also if you have a 5 g network you need to figure out how to have both 2.4 and 5g’s Your mobile device you are using needs to be 2.4 g. It took a little bit to figure this all out but no fault of product.Read more
