I will start this review by giving you a background of my experience with headphones and audio. I am an audio enthusiast but by no means am I an audiophile or have analytical experience with headphones or audio. I own the Sennheiser HD560s, HD58x, Beyerdynamic DT 770 and DT 990 pro’s, the Phillips Fidelio x2 HR’s and now the DT 900 pro x. I have about 20 hours of listening experience so far on the DT 900 pro x and would like to leave my feedback because so far the reviews of these on Amazon have been mostly negative. I disagree with most of what has said so far about these. I use all of my headphones with the Fiio K5 PRO dac/amp and listen to music and play PC games like Escape From Tarkov, CSGO and APEX Legends. Starting with the positives about the DT 900 Pro x Positives: -Well balanced tuning with a slight V curve in the lows and upper mids/highs but nothing crazy as compared to the DT 990 Pro which has a very obvious V curve and washed out mids. The mids on the 900 pro x are clear, slightly forward and seem to help while playing FPS games to amplify things such as foot steps and gunshots. The lows are punchy and precise with some bonus sub bass which is hard to find in this price range without the lows muddying up the mids and highs. Sound stage – The sound stage to me is perfect, not too wide, not too closed in. In comparison the the DT 990 pro the sound stage is similar but seems a bit more closed in because the mids are more forward and not as recessed to my ears. In games like Tarkov I can feel immersed without feeling like things are spaced out too far, to me it sounds perfect for gaming. For music the soundstage is just right, again a little more closed in than the DT 990 pro and the HD560s but for me it helps me to get immersed in music vs feeling like I am in the back of the crowd at the concert. Imaging – The imaging is fantastic for the price you pay for these headphones. Instrument separation is great and I can easily hear the different instruments in music without any muddying up or meshing of the tones the instruments make. In games the ability to tell which direction enemies are is fantastic, even better than the HD 560s and the 58x both vertically and horizontally. The DT 990 pro does a good job of imaging but the mids are so recessed that it hinders the imaging by muddying up the tones of instruments to my ears. Cables – The cables are high quality and the headphones come with two lengths of cables which are detachable. I am not sure how this could get any better. The cables are mini xlr and come with a gold plated adapter to connect to either a 3.5mm jack (most mobile devices and computer sound boards) or a 1/4 inch plug to connect to dac/amps etc. The cables are soft rubber and very flexible. I am currently using the shorter cable to plug into the Fio K5 pro and I have a dead silent sound floor with a perfect length cable. If you turn your head a lot the cable may rub on your shoulder but for me it’s a non issue. Build – The build quality of these headphones is great in my opinion. You get a mix of high quality plastic around the ear cups attached to a very sturdy metal band holding the earcups to the headband which is made out plastic and what seems to be a leatherette headband cushion. The wires are tucked neatly and do not interfere with wearing them. The velour ear cups are well made and look like they will last quite a while. The inner ear cups have a high quality material protecting the driver which is a step up from the thin foam you see on most headphones. Overall I give the build quality a 8.5/10. Cons: Comfort – These are not the most comfortable headphone for extended listening (8 hours+) but for me they are perfect because I do not use them for that long. The ear cups are slightly stiff at first but seem to be softening each time I use them. The headphones are slightly heavy on my had as compared to the HD58x and the HD560s which may cause quicker fatigue for longer listening session. One bonus is the ear cups and headband cushion are all replaceable to help extend the life of the headphones. Design – Some might say that these are not the most attractive headphones and appear very basic in design. I myself am not so vain but I know that some people make a living off of being in front of the camera with headphones on (streamers) who may prefer a more attractive headphone design. Again, not a con to me but I can see how it would be a con to others. Price – 300 dollars is a lot of money to most people so having to fork up 300 dollars may be a con to some people. I personally believe that you get what you pay for with these headphones especially with the added bonus of two cables and a quality carrying bag but I can see how some people may see 300 dollars as a bit steep. The HD560s retails for 200 dollars and is not far behind in sound quality from these but for me, the extra 100 dollars is well worth it for slightly more clarity in the mids and highs with punchier bass and sub bass as compared to the HD 560s. The highs – The highs of the dt 900 pro x are somewhat your classic Beyerdynamic signature with elevated, clear and slightly sibilant highs. Sibilance does not affect me as much as others but I will say it is still there but toned down a bit as compared to the DT 990 Pros. If you can tolerate some sibilance you will love how the highs sound. Conclusion: I believe that headphones have a diminishing return above the 200 dollar mark and when you pay an extra 100 dollars you get an ever so slight increase in sound quality. I believe that at the current price these are worth the extra 100 dollars vs lets say the DT990 pro because you are getting better mids, less sibilant highs, a more neatly put together sound stage and better imaging. The build quality is higher on these compared to the DT 990 pros which creaked right out of the box for me. I love the detachable cable design and the fact that you get two cables and a high quality carrying bag is an added bonus. These are also 48 ohms so you could drive them without an external amp/sound card which is great for most people. If you have a budget for these and are looking for a headphone which makes listening to music fun and playing games more immersive I would give these a shot, worse case scenario you don’t like them and utilize Amazon’s awesome return policy!Read more

This is a decent headphone. It is much easier to drive than its 250 ohm counterparts. It sounds good. But at this price I cannot recommend it when you can buy a dt770 pro and 990 pro together for the same price. The 770 and 990 are lighter, have a much more comfortable headband and earcup clamp, and they have a, for me, much preferred “reference tuning” as opposed to more of a “fun multimedia tuning” on the 700s and 900s. These seem like an answer to anyone who thinks beyerdynamics are “bright,” but compared to the 770s and 990s, these just seem congested with a much smaller soundstage. They’ve quelled the highs a lot and overemphasized the bass, and because of that they lose a lot of the “airiness” and muddy up the low end, especially compared to the expansive sounding 990. Again, they are very impactful and detailed compared to a lot of other headphones in the price range, but I cannot recommend them when the 770s and 990s are half the price and have tuning and comfort i prefer.Read more

Firstly I would like to shoutout Fresh Reviews on youtube. Like him my interest mainly lies in gaming, but I also needed something for mixing and general entertainment purposes. This so far has been easily one of my favorites among the HD560s, HD Zeus, HE4xx, HE5xx, AD700x and more. Don’t get me wrong the headphones I listed above are all terrific for their own use and sound signature, HD560s more so for analytical and neutral purposes. I would say give these a try as its going to be my main for the foreseeable future. Also some others have mentioned issues with the mini xlr cable being loose or bad sound, fortunately I’ve had none of these issues. Still I would say get these and test them out, its a top tier pair of cans.Read more

I loved it. it is one of hell of a critical listening headphone. You could hear the extra details and spaciousness of the sound coming out of it. The Stellar .45 Driver is truly an innovation and the price put on this one is pretty convenient for creators especially after the pandemic put a halt on the music industry for quite some time. So Pocket friendly it is! and the low impedance helps you work with it on the go, so no need for a headphone amp.Read more

I recently purchased a pair of the Beyerdynamic DT 700 ProX headphones and I really love them. The sound quality/fidelity is superb with a nice overall balance and better low end response than most other headphones I’ve used in the past. They are very comfortable for a few hours at a time, with soft ear pads that fully surround the ears for great isolation. Perfect for use in my home studio as well as on live gigs. I also like that they came with 2 different length detachable cables so I can keep the short cable attached to my home studio rig and keep the longer cable in my live sound workbox. They are sturdy and well built. Absolutely worth the price!Read more

The comfort is amazing. Easily the best for Beyerdynamic. The sound is just as good. And they finally have removable cables without having to mod them. And they do not require any form of amp to be used. Sometimes, I hope expensive things aren’t worth the cash, but these are. I will probably snag the 700 pro at some point too. But the 900s are amazing. Great for gaming and music production.Read more

The bass on these is quite good, and they have a bit more mid-range than the DT 990s, which results in vocals sounding more forward. However, they do not have the same clarity or treble sparkle as the 990s. The 900 Pro Xs lack the slam or ‘wow’ factor to the bass that is present in the 990s. The wearing comfort is excellent. These might be great if you like the Sennheiser-like ‘vail’ rolled-off treble, however, this takes away from the spark and detail that the 990s can retrieve, which is what makes music, games and movies much more interesting. They are just not as fun or exciting to listen to as their predecessors. However, if you are after a more mid-range style headphone that is comfortable, detachable cable, great build quality, then these may be for you. Don’t get me wrong: some music on these does sound very interesting – they just last the precision due to the rolled of treble. They may be the kind of sound that you like or prefer, so take this review with a pinch of salt. Also be aware of many YouTubers who are telling you that these are an improvement over the 770 and 990s. The 900 Pro X range are more of an alternative soundRead more

Having to return these Headphones sadly, due to the following. There is a noticeable hiss in the Headphones because of my Interface, this is not a Headphone issue but to do with my Goxlr and using low Impedance/ohm Headphones, there will be a hiss noise. Also they are not fully open and my voice sounded muffled, so I had to monitor my voice which i hate. My ears did not get on with these and caused Ear Fatigue, dunno why but since using these my ears haven’t been the same. Apart from the above they do sound amazing, a lot better then the 990’s. I ended up getting the Sennheiser HD560s which sound very similar, plus sound amazing and i can hear my voice clearly, very comfortable too. Edit: I forgot to mention that the longer 3m cable was faulty too, very loose connection and when i slightly touched it would loose sound in the right ear. The shorter cable was absolutely fine though, just be aware as someone else has had this issue.Read more

Read more

The reason I bought the DT 900 Pro X was because I wanted a good quality set of Headphones that are easy to drive. I will be using them with my smart phone and ipad for music and Ps4 (and hopefully soon a PS5). For this use they are ideal, phone never has to go above 80% volume and ipad never above 60%. They also are loud enough when plugged straight into PS4 controller, something that is not possible with many other headphones. I am not going to pretend I am an audiophile, all I can say is they sound better than my Philips X1s which I always though were a little heavy in the Bass department and my AKG K731s which I use for work, the DT 900s have a more exciting sound, this is likely mainly because I prefer open-back than the K371s closed-back. I will say I would class the DT900s as more of a semi-open back headphone, they do block out more sound than other open-backs I have tried. I like that the headband padding, Ear pads and cable are all replaceable. Getting two cables is good, I would have preferred the shorter one was a coiled cable. Also the drawstring bag seems nice quality. I marked them down one star as I feel they are probably £50 too expensive (I paid £220). The DT880/990s can be had for quite a bit cheaper.Read more

When listening, the effect of proximity arose. Quite a lot of midrange. The low ones differ from the dt770 250 ohm. In general, the detail is there, but there is no such depth as in the previous model.Read more
