I had 8 cats 6 weeks ago, and as of last night, I have 6. I believe Blue Buffalo killed 2 of my 11 year old cats (that were brothers). After slowly transitioning them to this brand, that it supposed to be superior (and very expensive), everyone seemed to love it. I mixed it half and half with Blue Buffalo Basics Duck & Potato Recipe. They loved it–I purchased more. 3 weeks after beginning to feed them this, one cat died of acute and sudden liver failure 6 weeks ago – otherwise a perfectly healthy indoor male cat. Last night (6/18/18), his brother all of a sudden couldn’t walk, and died 2 hours later–blocked urethra. Also an otherwise perfectly healthy indoor male cat. They are all drinking a lot of water, so I feel in my heart that it’s this food. Plus, I’ve give them purified water since they were babies. Feeding them Blue Buffalo is the ONLY thing I’ve done different in 11 years. Hopefully this can get out of their system before I lose another one. I am heart broken and devastated. Back to Purina One for my babies. I just hope it’s not too late.Read more

I’ve become very suspicious of Blue Buffalo cat foods. For about 3 or 4 years I have purchased this dry food for my 2 cats. I rotate through a variety of both dry and canned foods and have fed Wilderness dry cat food intermittently with other products in between. I had been pretty happy with the grain free chicken dry food, I thought it was a good product, until my most recent purchase last fall. I noted immediately after feeding a bowl of it out of the freshly opened bag that both cats were not well. I chocked it up to circumstance, but kept them off it for a few weeks. Tried it again. Observed them again, and they were not well. Listless. Unhappy faces. Going outside a lot. Lying down in a peculiar, nose out, flat on their stomachs manner. I waited another couple of weeks. Tried the food once again and same issue. I threw the bag away. Then, not really thinking about it or connecting the dots, I ordered a couple of cases of two different kinds of Blue Buffalo canned cat food. I guess I assumed that the dry cat food problem was an anomaly. I’d ordered the Blue Buffalo chicken pate, and the “Freedom” indoor canned cat food (chicken). And the SAME thing happened. Cats not well. I have never had a problem with cats being ill from food, and I order many different kinds of food. So now I am throwing away two cases of canned cat food–I don’t even want to give it away to anyone, because I don’t wany any cats getting sick fromit. I’ve subsequently done a google search and have found a lot of complaints against this company. So please beware.Read more

I switched my 5 year old orange tabby to this brand in an effort to feed him “better” quality food. I fed him good stuff before but I heard so many great things about blue buffalo, I figured I’d go for the best for his health. After about a month, I ended up having to take him to the ER for a urinary obstruction. He had struvite crystals. Never an issue before. I had to spend 1k to take care of it and save his life (hospital wanted to charge me 3k and keep him for a few days). I thought maybe it was the food but didn’t want to be a super skeptic. After reading the 1-star reviews and seeing other ppl complaining of the same thing, now I’m convinced. Have to feed him Rx food for the rest of his life now to avoid this from happening again. And yes, wet food is a solution but my cat would rathee starve than eat wet food (I tried. 48 hours and he didn’t touch a variety of wet food). So, please beware. Urinary blockages are fatal if not remedied and you will end up having to pay an arm and a leg to take care of it. Not worth it.Read more

My cats favorite food of 10 years has been changed for the worst. My cat started throwing up 3 times a week. I had taken her to the vet and figured out it was the change of the ingredients. This change of ingredients has affected the chicken, salmon and duck recipes. Please check out the ingredients. The third ingredient was TURKEY MEAL. Now it’s PEA PROTEIN. No nutrition value at all.Read more

I had been buying whatever I could find on sale aka the cheapest food for my cats until one of my cats had gotten sick. She had very low potassium amongst other health issues. My husband and I spent over an hour in the pet store googling nutrition and reading labels. We learned a lot about proteins, calories, potassium etc. Blue Wilderness was the best out of all of them. While her issues weren’t based off of nutrition we did everything we could between meds and food to make her well but sadly just after Xmas we had to let her go. I still continue to buy this brand for my 3 cats. I grew up in a time where 9 lives or Friskies was about the only thing you could get and just continued with that until I opened my eyes. The pieces are small and round and easy to eat. They have so far loved all the flavors which we have tried duck, salmon, rabbit and chicken so far. Even though it is an expensive price for the bag, I feel better knowing that I am giving my babies, in my opinion, the best food available. As a pet owner we are responsible for the health of our pets and owe it to them to give treat them as we treat and feed ourselves. We need them as much as they need us. It has made my cats sick. Since I started this food 2 have been throwing up and 1 has diarrhea. I am throwing away this junk and asking for a refund. My cats have eaten it in the past and I believe the formula has either changed as many reviewers are saying or this package from Amazon is old/ or somehow different. My cats are used to eating high proteim food grain free as well as rotating to Royal Canin and Science Diet. They are never sick with stomach problems as I am very careful of their diet. As soon as they ate this the stomach issues began.Read more
