I have two Brother printers that use this ink cartridge, so I’ve purchased these toner cartridges many times over the years from Amazon. They have always lasted a long time, even when I’m printing out hundreds of manuscript pages. Like so many this year, I’m suddenly work from home, so I bought a new cartridge at the end of March. By mid-May, and without printing anywhere near the supposed page capacity for this cartridge, I got the low toner warning. Customer Service was great about the issue and sent a replacement. I installed it with no problems. Now, this week in July (again, having printed nowhere near the max capacity of this cartridge), I got low toner warning again. I’ve never ever had this issue until now. I don’t know if it’s these cartridges are old and toward their end of life or what, but this is very odd and frustrating. Customer Service is allowing me to return this cartridge for a full refund and I’ll be buying the replacement from a local store this time to see if there’s a difference in longevity, but definitely something buyers should note here before purchasing.Read more

This cartridge produced vertical dropouts/fadeouts immediately upon installation. I changed back to my old cartridge and the problem went away. So it’s definitely the cartridge and not the drum or other printer component. This isn’t an isolated case. See also the recent (July 27, 2016) review by J. Varner, who reports fadeouts with a brand-new cartridge. Unfortunately I had bought this cartridge to have on hand when the need arose, so by now the return period is past. DO NOT buy this cartridge until right when you need it, in case you get a dud and have to return. When they work, they work great. But be aware that you’re taking a chance with this product and be sure you can return within the allowed time. You have to expect some duds if you take a gamble on recycled cartridges. But poor quality control is unacceptable when paying top dollar for the genuine item.Read more

This cartridge failed after about 500 pages. Doesn’t appear I can get a replacement. Bought this about 1 year ago as a backup after replacing the cartridge. So it sat for about 6 mos. At first it worked OK, but after about 500 or so pages, it now prints unevenly, or really soft. I’ve tried every possible adjustment. Best is to take out the cartridge and shake it. Then it works for another 100 pages or so. These “genuine” cartridges are too expensive to have them fail. And since I always keep a backup, by the time I find out they are no good, I can’t return them. Very unfortunate.Read more

This cartridge lasted me only about 600 pages of ordinary printing, mostly text and light graphics. This is definitely not “High Yield”. It is advertised as 2600** pages. I didn’t get 25% of that. It failed suddenly in the midst of printing a text only document immediately before the last page. I can usually see when the cartridge is getting low by the print quality change and an on-screen warning. The last page printed was a perfect print. The printer gave a toner error and would not clear despite efforts to make it work for the last page. I usually get a “Toner Low” warning on my screen when it is about to be depleted, but not this time!! I suspect it was a faulty item, since it failed suddenly without warning and all past identical units I have bought have always given ideal performance..Read more

Never had a problem with a genuine brother toner cart in a brother printer until now. We have 2 brother printers in our home and this was for my MIL’s brother printer. This is supposedly the model number cart that is indicated by a sticker on top of the printer. Must have just got a defective one. It happens. Printer would not recognize the cart as a full toner cart. Tried installing several times. Put the old low toner cart back in and it would work.Read more

The print quality is good. The cost of replacement cartridges, however, is rediculous. I finally read all the reviews and chose a replacement cartridge from Amazon (be sure you get the correct TN# for your Brother Model #). The replacement will tell you what you have to do to make your cartridge “register” on the printer; be sure to read and follow the instructions. The generic replacement doesn’t have quite as good a print quality, but it is LOTS cheaper, and gives me as many or even more copies than Brother. If you do use a Brother Cartridge, call their service number when you get a “new toner” message (it will probably be after only a thousand or so copies)–insist they give you the code to enter to turn off the message …you probably haven’t used up even HALF the toner in the cartridge you paid so dearly for!Read more

My history with the HL-2270DW and the TN-450 cartridges: Starter Cartridge – 751 pages, changed 12/27/2011 2nd Cartridge – 1,999 pages (total printer count 2,750) Changed 03/29/2012 3rd Cartridge – 2,559 pages (total printer count 5,309) Changed 07/24/2012 4th Cartridge – 2,627 pages (total printer count 7,936) Changed 11/19/2012 5th Cartridge – did not record 6th Cartridge – Approx. 2,300 pages (total printer count 12,585) Changed 08/14/2013 (DRUM IS NOW GIVING WARNING OF 0% LIFE LEFT) DRUM UNIT REPLACED AT 14,908 PAGES 12/21/2013 7th Cartridge – 2,537 Pages (total printer count 15,122) Changed 01/03/2014 I run them until I notice a problem with the output itself, the low toner message comes on long before they actually run out. You can press the GO button 7 times in quick succession to do this. As of now I’ve stopped counting page output, I think the results are reliable enough to form an opinion. My printer is still rocking on just like it did on day one!Read more

I think the Brother Toner Cartridges carries a premium price for a good reason. These things are no doubt expensive, but for that expensive you have what is FOR SURE a working toner cartridge. I have yet purchased a genuine Brother cartridge that has failed me. Yet the first third party cartridge I purchased crapped out on me. Started smudging toner half way through its life, justifying its price, which was 50% of this brother toner. So just stick with the genuine stuff. And from a fiscal perspective, with this high yield toner, I was still doing less than 0.05$ a page. So if you think about it, going to Staples to do you printing is still more expensive and this toner’s price can still be justified.Read more

The expected lifetime yield of 2,600 pages is correct but it can stop printing at 2000 copies and not let you continue. I watched a YouTube video on how to reset cartridge and I got four more months of printing. So if you feel you did not get the possible number of copies consider this step, you will need to do the research and follow the instructions. It is worth the effort.Read more

I installed this unit maybe close to 2 years ago and it’s still working. Of course there are compatible brands, but honestly they aren’t as good as the genuine brother products. The problem is that genuine costs 3x or 4x more these days. I would say if you have a workhorse printer that you print daily on and quality is not much of an issue, then try compatibles. But if you’re like me and use your printer occasionally, maybe less than once a week, then spend the money on an original because it will last a really long time.Read more
