Less than a month and it’s flourished! I started with completely bare ground that once had grass and weeds but chickens took care of that. Watered the bare soil, broke it up with a pickaxe and rake, scattered the seeds, raked them in gently and covered with old hay with lots of poop on it. Have yet to release the dinos on it but they like the “test” cans I made them (coffee cans) would order again!Read more

I’ve planted this in the chicken garden as described in other reviews, and I’ve also planted it in pots for my spoiled hens. They devour it. But the easiest way to deliver these seeds is in the form of fodder. No soil necessary. Just put a 1/2″ layer of seeds in a tray with drainage holes and water it two-three times per day. I drain the water into another tray and reuse it for a few days. After a week you have some really awesome sprouts, and the chickens love them! They are also highly nutritious!Read more

I live in the country and while I would love to grow these seeds as forage we have too many hawks and eagles to risk the chickens. Instead I grow these seeds in my sprouter and let them get 3 to 4 inches tall. My chickens love them. My sprouter has 4 growing pans and it only takes a week to get the seeds this tall. I grow them on top of my microwave in the window. I usually give the chickens a mix of grass and clover and herbs from the yard everyday but when I mow, these seedlings work until the grass grows again!Read more

I love this forage mix and would buy again! I have a small flock of backyard chickens in my urban home. I wanted to give them food options besides bagged feed and these are great! They sprouted well and my chickens enjoyed the sprouts as baby chicks. Then I planted them in our yard. Despite my poor soil quality, the seeds germinated and grew hardily. The wild peas in particular grew so well that I made a makeshift trellis/tent for them to climb. While smaller than the peas in my vegetable garden, they were very sweet! Now my chickens have a shade, overhead protection and snacks! They love the forage and (mostly) leave my vegetable garden alone. My dogs also appreciate the occasional mouthful as well.Read more

Simple enough to plant, once you get the idea the directions are NOT on the package. A bit disappointed, as I did not get the coverage they say, but then….maybe I have a heavy hand to spread. OK germination. Many different seeds come at many different times….Just OK for us as far as growth, but what did grow, the hens devoured overnight!!Read more

It only takes a week after planting to be ready. I have two 3’ x 8’ sections in the chicken coop and while they’re scratching in one the other is growing. I just throw the seeds on the ground and gently cover them with about 1/2 inch of soil with a rake and turn on the water mister and water daily. It had been suggested to give them access when the forage is 4 to 5 inches high and close off their access when they eat it down and give the plants time to grow again. But my hens completely destroy it the first day and since what’s left will not grow again I just let them stay and enjoy. In about 3 or 4 days I close it back off and replant. It’s ready again in less than a week. In the meantime they are scratching in the other section.Read more

I have a pet pig; unfortunately her sharp little hooves wreak havoc on my yard. This is the best product I have found to keep replanting my torn up yard… I just toss it around, and a surprising amount keeps growing, despite the fact that the pig, as well as birds, love eating the seeds! It grows in sun and shade and comes up well in very clay-like soil.Read more
