My 7 1/2 year old daughter has been playing with model magic since she was 3. I think I have bought between 25-30lbs of it over the years. It is usually cheapest to buy from the craft store in 2lb buckets with a 50% off coupon, however, when I purchased this classpack it was on sale and ended up cheaper. The multi-color classpack is the way to go if you can get a deal on it. It doesn’t dry out as fast as the 2lb bucket because you are only opening small amounts at the time. Also, it is perfect for parties or playdates, since it is already divided up into small quantities. It is also great for travel or bringing to a restaurant to keep kids entertained – just throw a few packs in your bag. My daughter will play with this for hours. We actually threw out all of our play-doh and only buy model magic because it does not make a mess, doesn’t crumble, and dries nicer. Model magic works well with most play-doh playsets, with one exception – it does not work with any type of extruding tool. It gets stuck every time we have tried to extrude it. I attached a few pictures of our recent creations. You can easily stick gems, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, sequins, and feathers into your model magic creations. Also, with this primary color pack, you can make any color you want. Here are some tips: If you can’t get something to stick to model magic, like googly eyes, wait until it dries then glue it on. If you are making a large animal or figure, like a snowman, use foil for the main structure. Then cover the foil with the model magic. You will save model magic and it will dry faster. To dry model magic, place on a paper plate. Every day or so, turn the model magic creation over, so each side gets a chance to dry. It dries very lightweight. If you plan to make handprints or footprints, you will need to press the hand or foot into the clay very firmly to get a well defined print. We have used it for prints, but it does require patience. Finally, once dry, never place directly on any surface to display without something under it. Sometimes, humidity will make it stick to the surface leaving a hard to remove residue behind. We usually put a piece of paper under the dried object when displaying.Read more

This product worked fine but leaves a terrible smokey odor that actually made me feel weak and dizzy. At first I could not figure out where the odor was coming from but when I googled “what is the best air dry clay ” I found a video that compares a few different clays. When it came to model magic it got a good review on how it worked but stated that it is hard to imagine that it is being sold to children since it has such a bad acrid smokey odor. I did use a lot of it which made the whole room smell and I felt sick . This product should not be on the market and especially not used with children!!!! I tried to find the ingredients on the package and on Crayola’s web site but it is not there.Read more

I bought the classpack, while my house looks like I have 20 rabid kids running around, I only have my 2 (and they weren’t rabid last I checked). This has been perfect for them. It comes in the primary colors so they are able to mix up lots of colors, sometimes they like to keep it marbled and sometimes they mix so well together that they make green and purple. I can throw a couple of these in my purse and have them for doctors appointments, long car rides, and they have gone on airplane rides too. They stay pliable for quite a while and then harden when left out. My kids also like to color on the clay with crayola markers. This does not get in their hair, it does not grind into fabric, it doesn’t crumble. I will continue to buy over and over.Read more

I am an LCSW that works with children/adolescents and their families. I use Model Magic daily in sessions and prefer the white because I like to encourage the client to use markers or other materials to create the color they would like to use in their creation. This allows for even greater imagination and creative freedom. I also allow kids to use this to create fluffy slime that doesn’t require borax (some parents are opposed to this ingredient) or other potentially harmful chemicals. I buy cases and cases of this stuff throughout the year. So glad to see the classpack of plain white back!!!Read more

I just can’t get over what a good deal this is. The price per ounce is so much cheaper than any other offer or bulk container I have found online! These packets are absolutely perfect. Each packet makes approximately a 2″ ball which is much more than I expected! I am using these for classroom gifts: “Build Your Own Snowman Kits” & each child gets 3 packets. The end result is a 6″+ snowman! Just fantastic! I will probably order at least another box or 2 for my child’s teacher because this is such a great deal & excellent for little hands & minds. Another Amazon 5 star win in my book!Read more

I’ve used several brands of air dry clay, but I chose Model Magic this time in large part for the value per ounce. I bought this to use for products that I sell on Etsy. I needed a larger amount of clay than usual, but I also needed to be able to have several ounces of the same color. With these packs, I can mix the colors to make any color except black and gray. I can make as little or as much of a color as I need. Many other brands sell this type of clay in small (0.7 oz) containers with only one container of each color, which makes it difficult to make anything that isn’t quite small or to make multiple items of the same color. Model magic brand is a nice consistency; not too soft or too dry. The colors are also more vibrant than other brands. This is the first brand that I have ever found that has a true red color. When needed, the colors mix together easily and completely. This is high enough quality for me to use for my art products but cheap enough for me to share with my 5 year old daughter, who loves to make all kinds of things with it.Read more
