Don’t let the bad reviews intimidate you—I was skeptical at first, but the fact that I couldn’t find ANY toaster with near-perfect ratings (from a reputable brand)—aside from those in the $100 range made me rethink my options; all I want is a toaster with basic functions that won’t break after a couple years. Since this toaster is not only reasonably priced, as well as consistently well-rated from tester sites for appliances, I decided to take a chance on it. It is exactly what I’m looking for: a straightforward toaster with all the basic toaster functions (toast, bagel, defrost, reheat), and in a price range that makes sense for a small appliance that does one thing—toast bread. Additionally, it’s small, has an easily accessible crumb tray, is quiet, and the sides remain cool when toasting. But the best feature is how FAST it toasts! I find it takes a minute, maybe a little more or less, depending the setting. Its toast levels (1 – 5) give pretty distinct toast results from each level, and it toasts fairly evenly, if the pieces fit entirely into the slots—which are not long, but are just big enough to hold a bagel slice. The settings aren’t as effective as I’d like, however; for example, I find the “Frozen” setting isn’t all that different from the “Toast” setting, since toasting frozen waffles using both settings yielded similar results. The “Bagel” setting also tends to toast both sides, but maybe it’s due to the fact I like to use the higher, level 4 setting. In all, I find the positives outweigh the negatives, although I suppose it depends upon what you’re looking for. I was looking for a decent toaster for a decent price—and I found it!Read more

Less than three months after purchase, this toaster (while being used exactly as specified) started a large fire in our kitchen. All the heating elements on the right side (both slots) channeled into one set of coils (the extreme right) and were so hot (toaster on level 3, not defrost) on a single piece of bread, that the bread started on fire, shooting flames over a foot in the air. It is only by luck that I was nearby, and the toaster was in an open area of the kitchen, that I was able to put the flames out without damage to our kitchen or home. This toaster is dangerously malfunctioning and should be redesigned and taken off the market until fixed. Update: THIS PROBLEM HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED BY THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AS OF ONE FULL MONTH POST-FIRE.Read more

The bread toasts only on one side. After adjusting the setting, one side of the bread toasts nicely while the other side is completely burnt. Cuisinart customer service is sending a replacement toaster pending their receipt of a check for $10 and the power cord. Time will tell if the replacement will perform as the first toaster. UPDATE 2/24/18: The replacement toaster was received. Upon opening it, several pieces of plastic came tumbling out of the packaging. Didn’t think that was a big deal because the plastic came from the underside. BUT, upon trying to use the toaster, it was obvious that those little pieces of plastic were a big deal – the toaster carriage wouldn’t click down for toasting. Save yourself the trouble and look at another toaster.Read more

Although I’ve dated several women over the years who thought it was somehow uncouth – barbaric even – I’ve gone at least a decade without owning a toaster. I’ve had an oven, which always seemed at least somewhat sufficient – just turn it up to somewhere between 350 and broil and put your bread-thing in, I would say, after an indeterminate amount of time it’ll be toasted like. So when in a fit of ‘I could be more normal’ pique I decided to buy a toaster, I think it’s safe to say my standards weren’t exactly high. But the Cuisinart CPT-122 2-Slice Compact Plastic Toaster (White) somehow managed to slither under that low bar. I gave 5 stars for ease of use because this is a toaster. After discovering that all the advertising/reviews talking about the “wide fit” of this toaster refer to girth, and not the normal-sized length of a slice of bread from an average loaf, and you insert your slice in a manner such that part of one side will be sticking up out of the toaster while it “toasts” the other end, you simply depress the lever as you would with, say, a toaster. So easy in that respect. Cram in your aspirational piece of toast and depress the lever, it’s pretty straightforward. (I’m sure it fits bagels though (I’m just saying that to be nice – after the parade of lies, I don’t know if I can believe in anything anymore. God is dead. Nothing is new under the sun.)) I’ve wondered if things have changed since I last owned a toaster. Is it supposed to be an adventure? If I’m to believe that all the 4 and 5 star reviewers are actual humans, who have had toast before, rather than proof of the missing link between us and the Neanderthals, then I must conclude “Yes, making toast is a wondrous voyage into the unknown, a journey to discover new things about your bread, and – more importantly – yourself.” Because you never know what you will get with the Cuisinart CPT-122 2-Slice Compact Plastic Toaster (White). Do you want one side of your slice raw, and the other moderately toasted? Maybe you’ll get that. Do you want the faintest hint of toasting throughout to really highlight the burned-black corner on this slice? Here you go … *this* time. Ooh, let’s do two at once! Here’s a burned piece and the other one that we actually de-toasted for you – if the two sides of your sandwich had a love child it may actually come out as an adequate piece of toast (and everyone loves a love story). Thanks Obama. I don’t even really care about toast that much – as noted above, it’s been at least a decade since I had a toaster. But I’ve now thought more about toast in the last 4 days than I had in the 40 preceding years. I’ve even written my first online review now, which may be an even greater failure of self-respect than my failure to make a piece of toast that’s even adequate for myself. So I guess if you’re going to say one thing about the Cuisinart CPT-122 2-Slice Compact Plastic Toaster (White), it’s that it is more engaging than your typical toaster; it’ll make you think, it’ll make you feel … and what other toaster can you say that about?Read more

The level adjustment is useless on both sides. Setting 1 is warm bread. Setting 2 is charcoal. Good luck modulating in between. If you actually get it about where you want it, it’s twice as dark at the bottom as it is at the top. Here is the setting chart for reference. I haven’t tried anything above 2 since I’m not brave enough. 1. Warm Bread 2. Charcoal 3. Conflagration 4. Insurance Claim 5. 5-Alarm 6. Mushroom Cloud 7. Game OverRead more

Just another irritating toaster. Toasts unevenly and doesn’t pop up enough to remove toast without burning fingers. It has all those useless buttons such as the one for bagles. I have no idea what they are for. It doesn’t make any difference when I use it or don’t use it when toasting bagles. Why can’t someone design a simple toaster that works consistently? It is a toaster, not rocket science.Read more

I ordered a new toaster because my old one took so long. This toaster takes even longer and is 200 watts more. The dial goes from 1 – 6 . Even at 5, lots of breads are even brown. I would definitely send this product back if it wasn’t such a pain in the butt. I think we are going to take the old one back to our kitchen and put this new one in our guest suite.Read more

Muy recomendable :)Read more

Toasting muffins and bread. Having tried the to toast frozen bread it does one side but not the other to the same darkness. Muffins barely toast at level 4 so will need to try higher setting. I Do like that its a touchable siding because of the plastic instead of stainless steel. ALso like the wide slots and that the toast pops up higher than the top for easier removal.Read more
