As a cello teacher I am constantly searching for products that are both high quality and enhance the sound of student level instruments. I was always a strong advocate of D’Addario Helicore string sets for all my fractional student cellos but gave these a try for a 1/8th cello I own. I especially liked the price for these since the cello itself is only a couple hundred. I was very impressed with how much I liked these strings on the cello. Perfect way to upgrade the lower models of Cecilio cellos and greatly improve the sound over the cheap strings that come on the cello. I will definitely be considering these more in the future for my students. Priced not too much more than Red Label strings for a set, but with the D’Addario quality and sound I’ve loved with the Helicore strings.Read more

I recently bought an inexpensive Cecilio Cello on Amazon because I’m 50 and thought I’d relive my tween years of cello playing without breaking the bank. It’s a slow process but I KNEW the sound could be better than the scratching sounds I was getting from the CHEAPEST STRINGS ON THIS PLANET THAT CAME with the cello. Purchased these Prelude Strings based on positive reviews. Wow!! What a difference. Now granted, I do realize that these are not the top of the line strings (those are very expensive- almost more than what I paid for the cello!!!) but by simply changing out the strings, my cello sounds well, like a Cello should sound. The strings are thinner than the original set and therefore easier to press and find the note more easily. It’s a win in my book. (Note: I encountered a problem with my C string when replacing the older string and the company was VERY understanding and worked in resolving the issue very promptly and professionally. A+ Customer Service!) If you are a student or a celloist looking to replace strings without selling your blood, this is a great set!Read more

I am a new adult learner and Bought a student cecelio cello. It’s a beautiful instrument but after much research I realized the strings were cheap too and that was something I could change! I bought a different cheaper brand first but these strings sound so much better and much easier to play!Read more

I got my 5 yo a 1/8 cello since he kept experimenting with mine. I found it used on Craigslist for $80 and it sounded just okay. It would do for a child. It had been in storage for a decade, I so decided I should probably get some new strings. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so I found what most school orchestras use–this brand. I picked up a set for around $50 without any great expectations. I got them on and to my delight my son’s little cello sang like a cello is supposed to! It went from sounding like a functional toy to a real musical tool! If you are in a similar boat, I do recommend these strings. It was worth it to me at least!Read more

These have been really great so far. They are really responsive. I’ve found that it’s easy to get really quiet while still getting a good sound. They resonate beautifully at all volumes. My reason for giving them a 4 star instead of 5 is because they have a fairly bright sound. The A string is especially bright. It’s still a good sound. But might not be the sound everyone is looking for. I’m a beginner cellist and have only played the cello for a few years and it is only a hobby for me. So for my purposes these strings are great. I don’t have the knowledge enough to say that these would be good for everyone, but these are really great, especially for the price.Read more

Added these to an old cheap cello for my daughter. It did improve the sound and she said they were easier to play than the strings that came on it. I found these strings recommended on a couple sites as A&D replacements. I just ordered all 4 as a set and they all sound nice.Read more

From the moment I opened the package, I could tell they were high quality strings. Very solid construction, and the feel of them alone will tell you they are special. Definitely makes a great improvement on the sound quality. I wish they were a bit cheaper, but when I have a performance to do, I will definitely have these strings on my cello. Deep, rich sound.Read more

Like others have already said in previous reviews, the A string broke immediately after putting it on. I wasn’t even able to get the string in tune before it snapped. Returned and will not purchase again. I would reccomend NOT buying these strings in case you get a faulty batch like I and so many others have.Read more

I had been using cheaper strings for a while. The A and D string were terribly squeaky so, I decided to change the strings. These strings were highly recommended in the affordable bracket. I’m glad I chose these strings. I have a whole new cello. The sound is amazing, like using a cheap bow vs a quality bow. The quality of the strings make a huge difference. These strings are thicker than what I was using before. It takes a while to get used to the different pressure required to play the strings but, 100% worth it. This might be pointing out the obvious but, all 4 strings need to be changed or the sound is rather odd.Read more

We have ordered 3 of these over 2 months and each time the A string keeps breaking – once even before we had played on it, we were just tuning it for the first time and it snapped. We contacted D’Addario and they have been great at listening to our concerns and responding appropriately. There was likely a faulty batch just like in all products but these things happen occasionally – they were understanding and appreciative of the information.Read more

I’m an adult beginner, but an experienced pianist and violinist so I hope my review is useful. These strings made a huge difference in tone to my (brand new) “Stentor Student” cello, which is a very basic beginner’s instrument. It came with what I reckon were the cheapest possible strings. I bought an A, a D and a G. Easier to play too, as they are easier to depress. Expensive for beginners but I was really encouraged by the sound I could make.Read more

This string replaced a much more expensive string, so I was worried about the quality of the tone that it would produce. But I needn’t have worried, as it gave a rich tone that did not compromise the quality I was looking for in my playing.Read more
