I was trying to tone down my highlights in between salon visits as my hair grows really quickly and the light blond against my light brown natural color was too harsh. I applied as instructed on the bottle. Left it on for about 10 min. Welp, my hair came out orange. Like Ronald Weasley orange. And I used Dark BLONDE. BLONDE people. Thank the Lort after 4 washes with Neutrogena clarifying shampoo and another 4 with purple shampoo, I am pretty much back to normal…and going to the salon on Saturday. If you have dark hair or are a redhead and want a boost, go for it. Blondes….run away!Read more

For starters, I have naturally medium brown hair, but have had subtle highlights for many years. I was due to go in for my 8-week touch-up right when everything shut down because of democra…er, I mean “covid.” Since we were told the shutdown would only be a couple of weeks, I figured no big deal, I could wait. Then it kept getting extended and eventually turned into 4 months. My highlights grew out to the point that I had an “ombre” look, which wasn’t bad, just not for me. I didn’t want to attempt my own highlights, nor did I want a solid color (fake looking) or anything permanent – just something to tone down the highlights and blend them with my natural hair color. First, I tried the MEDIUM BROWN, and it definitely covered my highlights, but was too dark (like a dark walnut color) and imparted a reddish hue to the highlights. After a few weeks of letting the color fade and gradually wash out, I tried LIGHT BROWN, which I liked a lot, but the highlights were still reddish. After another few weeks, I tried the dark blond, to tone down the highlights but not really affect my natural color. It was definitely more subtle, but the highlights were still “pinkish.” Then, I tried the LIGHT BLONDE, which virtually did nothing but impart shine, as the color itself is almost clear. This past weekend, I tried the MEDIUM BLONDE, but mixed it with the DARK BLONDE 50/50, and very happy with the results. I always applied it after washing my hair (this removes any hair product or dirt) and then applied the gloss to damp hair (the hair shaft open when it’s wet, so the color absorbs better), and left it on for 20 minutes. I do have a handful of gray hairs that appeared in the past 6 months or so, and these were much less noticeable even though the product isn’t meant to cover gray. Overall, I don’t think this product is suited for anyone with highlights, as it seems to impart a reddish/pinkish hue regardless of the color used. If your hair is naturally dark or one-color without highlights, I think you’ll be very pleased with the results. Since it’s a semi-permanent color, it does slowly fade away with time and washing (or a haircut, if it’s just the ends that you’re not happy with). After each use, my hair has been very full, glossy and silky, and looks healthier than it did before applying the gloss, so I will likely keep using the medium and dark blonde 50/50 combo every couple of weeks until my highlights have completely grown out or have been cut off (since I have a chin-length bob, this won’t take that long!).Read more

I had some very contrasty tiger stripe highlights that needed to be toned down, so thought I would give this a whirl. It did great! I only left it (medium brown) on for 5 minutes to test it out, and am so happy with the results! If I left it on longer, I bet the highlights would have been pretty much gone. Afterwards while I was sectioning my hair for curling, I found I had missed a spot underneath, and thought it really showed how well the color took. I included it here for people to be able to see a side by side before and after. It would be excellent for greys too! Great product!Read more

Bought this from Ulta today, I was desperate to get rid of my grown out, ridiculously brassy highlights on my brown hair. I just want to hide them until it’s long enough to cut and not use permanent bleach or dye or anything. I think this is somewhere in the middle. I’m no expert or anything though so don’t quote me

I use this several times a week on my hairline and part. It extends my color by weeks and covers gray. Do not use white towels to dry off as it will stain!Read more

I love this stuff! I bleached my hair last summer and have since gone back to my natural hair color. However, my hair keeps fading to an ugly orange/light brown color. This stuff helps maintain the color and keeps my hair healthy and shiny. I use it every other hair wash. After I shampoo my hair, I put this in my hair and put on a shower cap. Then finish the rest of my shower as usual… body wash, face wash, shave, put on a concert, you know… the usual stuff. Then I rinse it out and continue my concert. **Warning, it will stain your hands & shower. I still use my bare hands. I just follow up using a body scrub to get rid of the stain and give the Tun/shower a really good rinse.Read more

Absolutely love this wonderful liquid gold! As a natural redhead I was devastated when my hair began to fade as I’ve gotten older but this allows me to have more of the natural red I had in my 20’s. I only put in underneath for now but I love the color! Helpful tip if you stain your sink or bathtub when finding this out, baking soda and Clorox will remove it

The first time I used it I didn’t get it right, I am using it to hide greys but the second time it was great. You have to pay attention to where you are putting it and then how long you leave it in. The second time I started with the roots and made sure that they were fully covered, then went on to the rest of my hair, it turned out great! I love this and may quit going to the hairdresser when the shutdown is overRead more

Though it didn’t do any damage to my hair or make too much of a mess or bad smell- it’s not worth the price. It won’t really do much to color your hair- and as far as a “gloss” it doesn’t even really make your hair look nicer. Overall, it does nothing, but maybe other shades are better.Read more

This conditioner works, I add a small amount in with my regular conditioner to get more uses out of it, and I’ve noticed a huge difference in my hair, I’m on week 8 of my coloured hair and it hasn’t faded in to that reddish copper brown that I can’t stand. Very impressed with this product, will be ordering more for sure. Must have, if you can’t stand the faded out hair colour that comes after so many shampoos. Tip: mix with one finger into your normal conditioner, to avoid staining on the palms of your hands!Read more

The first time I tried it as instructed on the bottle, it dried my hair right out. My hair stylist told me that usually after a gloss treatment, you are usually supposed to condition the hair…so the next time I used this, I conditioned after and it made such a difference. In terms of giving your dull hair some life, it’s not bad. Just ok. Probably better products out there.Read more

This product was smaller than I expected for the pricing point (however my fault as I didn’t even read how big it was lol) but wow!!!! I have been searching for something comparable to Aveda black malva since it’s now discountinued, this stuff is above and beyond that product (Which I also loved) The gloss is incredible leaves such a nice healthy shineRead more
