(First pic shows tab difference (OEM is gray one on right); second pic shows that OEM filter is slightly larger with the opposite hidden side of both filters pressed flush to a board to allow size comparison.) Looks like it will fit but is not a clean fit for a Subaru XV Crosstrek 2015. The internal tabs are square instead of angled like the OEM filter and the size is slightly different. It will fit but not cleanly and the air filter box won’t close nicely. I had to jam it in and the box would not close cleanly no matter how much I coaxed or swore. I put the OEM filter back in just to make sure I wasn’t missing something. I wasn’t.Read more

Used to replace the old engine air filter on my 2018 Outback. This filter looks exactly like the original Subaru branded filter.Read more

I am giving it zero stars for installation. Careful comparison of the plastic casting on this part and the original Subaru filter shows they are similar but not identical. There are protrusions on this part that interfere with proper installation. Even after I trimmed it with large diagonal pliers it still did not fit and had to be forced into place. I suspect this may be a counterfeit part. I have never before had trouble with a genuine Fram filter. Unfortunately it is too late to return this filter. I have wasted an hour just to change an air filter!Read more

We have used these in the past (2008 Subaru Impreza OBS) and were satisfied. We have also used other brands including OEM Subaru filters. I felt the quality of the Fram air filters were comparable to the OEM filter in the past, including the number of pleats. However, the one I recently obtained has significantly lesser pleats; specifically only 14 pleats. The picture shows 22 or 23 pleats, and this number is typical of comparable filters, including the Fram pictured on this site. Update: I replaced the air filter on our 2008 Subaru OBS with a Purolator PureOne filter on 4/17/2015. It has the same reduced number of pleats as the Fram CA 9997 filter. The Subaru (Denso) air filter I removed after @30K miles also has the same reduced number of pleats as the Fram (and Purolator PureOne); it still had life left. Hence I am upping the rating on this Fram to 5 stars. I guess they have updated the design and construction, including number of pleats across the board. The media is comparable on the Fram to the Subaru and Purolator filters. I will not hesitate to use the Fram next time.Read more

well, the dealer wanted $60 to replace this filter. I looked and determined the air filter was in a location that I could easily do this myself. Next, I priced it out and rather than pay for Subaru brand name, I chose FRAM. The design of the car and the angle to install were awkward but the filter was an exact match and works perfectly. Make sure you do not choose the cabin air filter when searching for ‘air filter’. This is the engine air filter. I bought two since I need to change every 12,000 miles.Read more

Installing a new air filter in a 3.6R 2014 Outback is a bit tough normally, but it became near impossible to reassemble the cover with this filter installed. The outer ‘rim’ gasket is too thick! Unfortunately, the last two Fram filters via Amazon I purchased were extremely hard to install. I had purchased three prior to these and they installed no problem. It would seem that since 2018, the specifications for the filter have slightly changed. Disappointed, to say the least, and will spend the extra few dollars next time at an auto parts store, where I can pop open the box and examine the seal to be sure it isn’t too thick. Of the problems I’ve had purchasing via Amazon, it appears many manufacturers supply Amazon with factory seconds – products that other retailers wouldn’t accept …Read more

This filter will not fit properly on 2014 Subaru Impreza Sports prem. It’s always little bit of struggle to replace engine air filter in this car and I always use oem filter every two years. But, I figure fram is well known name brand, so give this one try. I really struggle to get this one in there and not a good fit. I even disconnected MAF sensor connector and the air vent from the filter to get better access, but it just didn’t get a good deal. I was able to put back old Subaru oem filter, made in USA, without much effort and good seal. The Chinese made fram filter has twice more ridges than oem, but not thick as oem. One thing that I noticed the filter came without the plastic package and no pamplet in the box. Someone must had same experience. I will be returning this one too.Read more

Both the advertised photo and the box show filter with extra folds/filtering area while in reality the filter included in the box was a lot lower quality, has half the folds and lets a lot of light through. This is misleading posting/seler and I won’t be buying/recommending this. Edit: I purchased the exact same product/number from another store and sure enough the filter is completely different (see attached photo, received item on top).Read more

Fits a bit tighter than the OEM filter on a Subaru Forester 2010. At first glance it looks the same but the amount of filtering media is only about 66% of the OEM filter. If you look at the number of folds on the intake side, the OEM has 23 and the FRAM has 15… The picture on the packaging is misleading: what is on the packaging is a different quality of filter than what is in the boxRead more

My car is a Subaru Outback 2015, and I chose the matching filter. However, thr filter doesn’t fit into the inlet, due to some plastic parts in the design of the filter. I had to manually (and painfully) cut these parts to make the filter fit (hardly) into its place. On the other hand, the car seems more “relaxed” and the fuel economy improved slightly.Read more

The felt gasket seal on the filter came apart while trying to install it on a 2017 Subaru Forester, the filter was a little to big to fit in the filter box. Will not buy this brand again.Read more

this is a pretty okay filter. it seems to go into the installation bay well, and from what I can see it looks like it fits well and doesn’t let air past it without going through. An installation guide would have been a nice touch, but I found out how to do it online.Read more
