The compact design of this fully automatic espresso machine is both a really great thing but can also be a hassle if the machine is used a lot. It’s really my biggest criticism of this machine and I wanted to start off with that since it’s worth considering if you plan on using it for more than a few shots per day. If you are planning to make Americanos or even Lungo espresso, the 1.2 liter water reservoir needs to be refilled often. It’s not hard to change but it’s at the very back and if you have the unit under a cabinet, you will need to pull it forward to remove the tank and then add more water. And the water should be filtered if possible to avoid calcium build up over time. Just like the small water reservoir, the bean capacity is just 6.5 ounces. Fortunately, it’s a bit easier to add more beans than water, but I’m finding myself adding beans every other day or so. It’s not a big deal and it’s the price you pay to have such a compact fully automatic machine with built in grinder and water supply all in one. I was previously using a slightly larger machine called the DeLonghi Dinamica which has almost double the size hopper and water reservoir and I also felt like I was always either adding beans, refilling the water, or removing the old coffee pucks. It’s just part of having a smaller fully automatic machine and isn’t that big of a deal. If you are used to only having a Keurig or Nespresso machine, adding water is nothing new, but making sure you always have fresh beans in the hopper is important to prevent a weak coffee taste when pulling your shots. Aside from those small issues, the machine is great. I’m not going to talk about every feature, it’s fairly standard. You can easily select a single espresso shot, lungo, or Americano from the front panel. There is also the option to dispense hot water or a custom setting called “my brew” that you can set up using the app. Of course there’s an app. There’s always an app these days. It’s kind of nice if you want to customize your coffee, but I found the lungo setting perfect for me and it adds just the right amount of water to make a strong espresso drink. The Americano setting is good for those who are used to drip coffee. Espresso pulls just a single shot and is good if you want to add it to another drink or if you enjoy a very strong shot of coffee with very little water. It helps to use good quality coffee (and water) as bad flavor will be exposed much more than with traditional drip coffee makers. The good news is when you get the coffee grind just right and find the beans that work for you, the taste is fantastic. This compact unit does a great job and it’s very consistent in producing good tasting espresso over and over. I’m very happy with that aspect of the unit. I also really like the clean design and this is an excellent choice for the family that just has one or two espresso drinkers or doesn’t have the countertop space for a large machine. It’s fairly easy to clean and maintain, and even though it has a glossy finish, it’s not really getting scratched up, but I am being somewhat careful with it when wiping it down.Read more

This machine, overall, was a pleasant surprise. It has a few quirks that I think GE ought to fix (the loosely attached tray is my biggest complaint), and someone ought to improve the initial app setup process. But for the most part, I would recommend this. If you are considering a pod-based espresso machine, this is worth considering, because it skips the pods and uses fresh coffee. Here are some points to consider. * Setup of the machine was dead simple: Wash and fill the water tank. Connect the drip tray. Plug it in and turn it on. * Setup of the app was frustrating, taking way longer than it should have. Sign up for an account, download firmware updates to the machine (which failed the first time but worked the second time), and finally you’re connected. This process was slow, taking roughly 30 minutes for all the steps to complete. Note that you do not need the app if you just want to make coffee drinks with the default settings. Without the app, you can control the fineness of the grind, but everything else is automated. With the app, you can adjust the amount of water and the amount of coffee, plus there are some built-in drink types you can store as “my brew”. In other words, you’ll probably want to use the app to fine tune the machine, but mostly once you’ve set it to your preferences, you can ignore the app. Note that you cannot adjust the water temperature. * Once the app is set up, it connects well, and dialing in your preferences is a breeze. * I left the machine unplugged while I was away on vacation. When I returned home, my phone gave me a notification that perhaps something was wrong with my machine because it hasn’t been seen online in a while. I could do without these notifications, and I suppose I will shut them off. They seem unnecessary. * It’s big. Putting all the automation into one device means it will take up more counter space. * The drip tray does not stay attached. A couple times now, the drip tray has fallen on my kitchen floor, because the only thing keeping it attached to the machine is a weak pair of magnets. Make sure that the tray does not extend beyond the edge of your counter, or it will fall off. Fortunately, it hasn’t broken yet. * Every time the machine turns on, it goes through a rinse process. Be prepared for that! If you don’t have something below it to catch it (for example, if the drip tray is not attached), you will end up with water on your counter. The amount of water is small enough that the drip tray can handle it. * I like how automatic the process is. As long as there are coffee beans and water in their respective chambers, pressing the button for your drink is all that is needed. The machine handles grinding, pressing the coffee into the filter, brewing, and popping the used coffee into a chamber for disposal later. So, once your first drink is made, the machine is ready for the next one. I think this presents some real competition for machines like Nespresso and Keurig, because it gives the same level of convenience, but with freshly ground coffee and no pods to dispose of. * I like the drinks. I’m not a coffee snob/purist (if I were, I wouldn’t buy an automatic machine from GE). But this produces an espresso that I enjoy. I have found that the best way for me to tweak the results has been in my choice of coffee beans, and the fineness of the grind. Experimentation is part of the fun. Enjoy!Read more

This GE Profile Automatic Espresso Machine | Brew in Less Than 90 Seconds | 20 Bar Pump Pressure is not for people with limited counter space, because this thing is a monster and it will dominate your counterspace with no mercy. My first impression of this was of course how huge it is, caught me off-guard to be honest because I wasn’t expecting such a chonky boy with a box to match. Setting this up initially does take quite a long time, with most of it spent waiting for things to update, but that’s the flip side of all these smart devices. Yes, they’re useful and handy and make some things easier. But at the same time you have to sign up for yet another service that will assumedly be harvesting your data as most do. Once set up I was eager to try this out especially because of how exhausted I was that day, and wow did this thing come through. I was so jacked up off the caffeine and excited about how awesome this machine worked that I ended up calling over a couple of friends who would appreciate it and they too partook in some high quality espresso while we all stood in awe of the enormous size as I tried to figure out how I was going to prepare food with this behemoth. Overall, the quality of the machine itself and of the espresso it produces are both top notch. However, the massive size of this thing and the initial setup of it are both issues that you should be aware of before purchasing. In my opinion this is one of the best smart coffee/espresso makers I’ve ever owned or used and I’ve been through quite a few because I love my coffee/espresso, I would recommend it but I’m docking it a star for completely dominating my counter and making it harder to prepare food. 4/5 stars.Read more
