I really like these flashlights: they are bright, sturdy, and seem a good value. I appreciate especially their “one function” feature. I have come to hate, by comparison, pocket LED lights that cycle through many useless “modes” at the press of the “on” button. When I press “on” I might like illumination — not some crazy strobe.Read more

So this is a good little kit if you want to teach your child how to build a flashlight. First you’ll have to go to the store for some batteries – remember, this is a “kit’ not a “flashlight” then you’ll need to find a hardware store that sells rubber o-rings. You’ll need two as even if one of the flashlight kits came with an o-ring it’s unlikely they both did. Either way, the o-ring included with the flashlight kit is the wrong size (too small) so you’ll need a thicker one to make the flashlight kit water tight once it’s put together. Now the tricky part, the gland nut that hold the lens in takes a special wrench which is non standard. The best you can really hope for is to tighten it as best you can by hand. Expect to spend a couple of hours running around town to get the parts needed to assembly the flashlight kit. Once put together, it’s not bad.Read more

Bought (2) to replace aging LED flash lights. Did NOT want the multi-function push button (on/off fine). Body diameter slightly larger than “small” size. Oh, sales pic failed to include black lanyard is included with handy belt clip – nice! LED light is VERY bright with its “zoom” size feature! Battery wise it not only accepts the LiOn sticks, but includes a nice adapter for (3) 1.5v alkaline – if times get tough (-; FYI, shipping was incredibly f–a-s-t!Read more

This is my favorite flashlight ever. Compared to every other, the rest are all a joke. The closest comparison is a large 1000-3000 lumen flashlight (ElectroLumens Fire Sword V)…and while that light is brighter, it’s also a bear to handle. The GearLight produces a far more consistent light pattern in an impressively compact package. Zoomed-out, it produces a circle of light that is just as bright at the edges as it is in the center. Zoomed-in, it produces a tight-bright beam, although the edges are not as defined as when zoomed-out. I’d characterize the color of the light as daylight spectrum–cooler tones (higher Kelvin scale). We’re using this with some 18650 batteries from a big flashlight I’ve had for ~8 years. One of the four cells from that flashlight finally died…so I purchased these GearLight TAC flashlights to give those cells a second life, and I’m very impressed. The flashlight does require that you use a provided sleeve along with the 18650 cell, but I’m glad that the sleeve fits securely inside the flashlight, as I was worried it might fall out when changing the cell. The lanyard and belt clip are also handy. I only wish it provided some way to attach these to my bike to use as a headlight. The no-nonsense single-mode operation means that you don’t have to cycle through various brightness or flash settings–it’s just push to turn on, then push to turn off.Read more

This flashlight is 100% worthwhile, unlike those with different modes, which are a complete nuisance and not worthwhile. It won’t drain your batteries unnecessarily like every flashlight with modes/settings will do. It’s bright, has an easily adjustable beam width, clicks on and off quickly, and is priced appropriately. These have mechanical switches (as of the date of this review) which is excellent because they won’t drain the batteries while they’re unused, like electronic switches do. Any switch with “modes” or “settings” is electronic. Very few will drain slowly enough to make them moderately “OK”, but they’re still draining the batteries no matter what…so, most of them have a very poor battery life, or at best, a less-than-this-light battery life. It’s also nice that there are no modes, even if it was a mechanical switch. I was an early adopter of led flashlights and “modes” didn’t really exist back then, just like they typically didn’t exist on even older flashlights. I have never had the need to strobe a flashlight. Ever. If I needed it for an emergency purpose, I’ll buy one with that. I can confidently say that zero household users will have a use for a strobe effect in normal use, either. If I needed to have a “dim” mode to reduce battery usage for hours-long continuous usage, I’d be draining batteries enough anyway that I’d find a different solution than a pocket flashlight, such as a low-power headlamp. There’s no need for dimmers on handheld flashlights in normal use, or strobe effects. They’re wonderful marketing gimmicks though, and children seem to love them. I’ve used the same LED flashlights for over 10 years, despite newer LEDs being brighter, more efficient, and cheaper. I can’t stand the useless modes that only make them irritating to use, and borrowing flashlights at others’ homes and them replacing batteries because it sat in a drawer made me really loathe those electronic switches. I swapped my batteries about once a year, with regular use. I have a feeling that this flashlight will work similarly for me. Thank you for a great flashlight at a great price. I’ve convinced my dad to finally replace his garbage LED “modes” flashlights from Costco, too.Read more

Yes, I’ve got a large stack of flashlights. Some have 5 modes, some have a zoom feature, some are blindingly bright and some fit in my pocket everyday. That’s not this light. This light is ON/OFF, moderate size. PERFECT for everyday use. It has a very wide, very bright beam which is great for taking the dog out at night. Also works very well for night-time walks since I can’t get to the gym which is shut down. For walking, the light is small enough for me to hold in my hand for the entire walk. It’s also fairly light. I use one rechargeable battery, an 18650, and I get over an hour of illumination. It’s still plenty bright at that point but I just recharge it – so maybe it’d last two hours or more? I don’t know. Here’s the kicker – as soon as I got my hands on this light, I started picking it up every time I leave the house at night. All my other fancier lights are very lonely now 🙂 And for the money – really!Read more
