This product would work great except for one fatal flaw. It is held to get her by the smallest screw, just one of them and it’s the size of a penny. This means that it’s only a matter of time (like a few hours of use) before it breaks. Terrible design, Super disappointing because it was working great. UPDATE: because I’m ambitious I drilled a hole through it and replaced the tiny screw with a nut and bolt, product works better and I like it again. I give myself 5 stars.Read more

I should have read the reviews more carefully before buying this. As I look back, I see that many of the 5-star reviews are after a few uses, or even the first use. The tool will not eliminate bending, so one may as well bend and really get weeds out. It is very difficult to position the tool and work the lever to grab a weed. I had to manipulate the lever with my hand (bending). And when the tool grabbed a weed, with considerable effort on my part, I was only able to get part of the weed out. I knew when I bought it that it would only be a good tool for weeds with clear centers, so I only worked on such weeds. . One should not expect a tool like this to work with rhizomes (you just have to get on the ground and get them all out). As others have noted, you have to bend down and remove whatever part of the weed you pull out. I also found that I was unable to get out long roots (like dandelion roots), so they will be back after the next rain! The tool has a short handle. I am 5’9 and I am too tall to handle it comfortably. I have been gardening for 30 years and weeding on my hands and knees for that long. Every gardener wants a reprieve from weeding, especially as we face physical limitations. I wish this tool was the answer, but it is not. Using it is more work than bending to remove the weeds (I can no longer get on my knees, unfortunately)–and, as previously stated, it doesn’t remove the need to bend, one is just doing it with a cumbersome tool in hand!Read more

Oh my god, I friggin’ love this tool. I bought this on a whim given my husband and I bought our first house and know nothing about caring for a yard and boy has it come in handy. Our new house had a ton of weeds in the front yard and this tool helped me get most of them out in no time. In fact, the process of yanking out the weed was strangely satisfying! I don’t think anyone can say that weeding is fun but this tool made it as close to fun as you can get, especially when you see a long root along with the weed you pulled. As I perused reviews of this tool prior to buying, I noticed that some reviewers commented on the quality of the tool itself being poor. I was concerned about this, especially when the box arrived super mangled at my house. Surprisingly, the item inside was just fine. In fact, it’s pretty well made. The handle is wood and the bottom part that yanks out the weed is a strong metal that is literally screwed into the wood stick. I can’t see someone destroying this thing that easily. That said, this is probably not great for weeds nestled among concrete pavers. We have some of those and it looks like those might need to be fished out with a smaller tool or chemically treated. But for everything else, this tool works great! I’m so thrilled that I can spend less time on this and also avoid using corrosive chemicals in most areas.Read more

Works as designed. I want to respond to a couple of other general negative review points. 1) I’ve pulled around 50 weeds with this tool and the handle has never come close to breaking. I don’t jerk the weed out, I leverage it out. And when I do, I watch the joint between the metal and pole for stress. So far, I’ve maybe reset the tool a couple of times to reduce stress. Worst case, if the pole breaks, get a new one. Make it a metal one if you want, but I don’t want or need to lug a heavy tool around when the wood pole works fine. 2) Yes, you have to touch the weeds! I take almost all weeds out of the claws. It’s the simplicity of this tool that I like, and if there were mechanisms that would spring open the claws and push out the weed, there would be more to break. Plus, I have to put the weed in my bucket, so I have to touch it anyway. If my bucket was heavier, I could easily scrape the weed off the claws on the top edge of the bucket. 3) This tool keeps me standing erect! Much easier than crawling around the lawn on my hands and knees!Read more

The Original Stand Up Weed Remover Tool arrived yesterday, from AMAZON. It has rained here for the past three days and nights – more than ample rainfall to dampen (drowned is more like it) the ground. Following the accompanying directions that came with the tool, I set off this morning to reign (pun intended) terror on the weeds… Weed pulling with this tool was an EPIC FAIL! Every weed I pulled, and I mean EVERY weed I pulled, using this tool snapped the tap root. …or was it just too cold outside …or are these weeds GODZILLA weeds (he kept resisting and returning)? …or maybe it just works on ‘stage prop’ weeds, like the one’s in the pictures and videos about this tool. Of course, YMMV, but I think I’ll buy a nice D-Handle Drain Spade or post hole digger and have at it in the Spring.Read more

It’s ok but have purchased a different brand as well that’s much better. Problem with this one is that the claws don’t come together in a point so they often don’t grab the roots (they come together in pairs leaving a gap for the weed to slip through), also doesn’t have a weed eject system so this greatly slows down weeding (you have to get your fingers or such else in there to dislodge the pulled weed and dirt from the pulling mechanism). Worth spending the extra cash on the best seller fiskars weed puller – blackRead more

It’s a great Item but size of weed does make a difference to how effective it is. I have a bad back and it diiinitely helps me to pick out larger weeds but has problems plucking out younger ones, of which a long handles weeding for has done a better job. Never the less, I’m keeping it as it does help reduce weeding time and amount getting down on knees or bending back.Read more

I am somewhat bemused as to why this item has been so highly rated but have just started using it since although I already have a Fiscars weeder I have so many weeds ( mainly ragweed ,dandelions and thistle) I was curious to see what grandpa would have used. On the positive side the item arrived quickly and intact. Its looks great and is very sturdy and well made. Other than that I wont be using it. The weeds are not as firmly clasped as with the Fiscars and it often takes several attempts to get them out . Once out you have to remove them from the tool then reset the prongs . So much slower than with my Fiscars weeder. Hey ho live and learnRead more

This is great. Really helps to get the weeds out. I saw a neighbour struggling to bend to get the weeds so went over to lend this to her, but she was trying to get weeds out of loose stones. I realised very quickly it didn’t work as well as it needed the soil to sink into. So great for garden/weeds and made our life easier.Read more

My sister told me about this tool because I was looking for something to get rid of thistles and docks. If they are not to large (4ft) it is brilliant at doing so though I have noticed the wood staff bending as I am levering the weed out. Still it hasn’t broken yet which is good.Read more
