Very simple product. Connects the two wires via a wifi signal. The same two wires that the wall mounted garage door connects. Simply spliced into the wall button and connected to wifi. I have an early 90s 12 dip switch opener which could also have simplified things. The magnetic sensor would be a bit more wiring and optional. It tells the app whether the door actually closed. So without this it still works, but the app can’t tell if the door is open or closedRead more

Our garage door opener stopped communicating with the original remotes. We tried absolutely everything, so we were certain it was something to do with the opener and not the remotes. We were looking at a lot of money to change out this extremely old garage door opener. We got looking around and found this choice among the others here on Amazon. We are very pleased with it. One option is to wire it directly to the stationary garage door opener button in the garage. That’s what we did. Setting up the app was a bit confusing, but we got it to work. I do not miss carrying around a garage door opener. Opening the garage door with the app is much more convenient. I really wish there was an option for the app not to work if you’re not using your own home wifi. I can open my garage from absolutely anywhere with the app as long as I have cell signal. I don’t want that (in case my phone is stolen and used). Also, I can’t speak to Alexa integration. I don’ t use it. But otherwise, we’re quite happy with it.Read more

I had an older My Q controller which was wonderful, unfortunately that device broke after many years, but now all their new hubs require a subscription. Additionally I am fully vested in smart life for my bundred or so devices so was glad to switch. This does the job and has some really nice features. Not sure if the features are generic to smart life or this, but there are features such as reminders after x minutes if the door remains open and delay close. Also tells a history of when it is open or closed. I had a small problem with the device reliability and losing connectivity until I connected the door open sensor. With the door sensor connected it has been rock solid. I connected this inline with my wall push button so very simple, just strip 2 wires. Given that these devices only work by a momentary press and not an open or close command I was worried that of I set this to close at a certain time that of the door was already closed it would open it, but I was happy to see it worked as I wanted so now I am comfortable knowing that .y door will be closed evey night.Read more

Locating where and how to split the 2.4 and 5.0 wifi bands apart in the setup of our router was a little stressful. Everything in our house works through that router so what could go wrong? I went slow, looked around a lot, and got through it OK. Attaching the wires and installing the app was a walk in the park. The app appears to have been designed for many other devices first, but it all works reliably enough.Read more

I really wanted to like this, but the Google Home integration seems to be broken. It shows as an unknown device type, so you can’t open/close. (Or even see the state.) In the smart life app it works fine, but petty useless for everyday control. Update: Got it working. You have to set a PIN in SmartLife. No button in Google Home still, but voice control “open/close garage door” works. Bumping rating. Bad user experience tho.Read more

I bought two of these because my garage has 2 doors. The first one didn’t work right away, the LED wouldn’t flash for setup. A little googling told me it might be my WiFi, but I tried the other one and it worked with no issues. Tried it in the house and if I squeezed the housing it would flash. I unscrewed and opened up the bad one, and it must have been a pinched wire because it worked with the cover off, and it worked after putting it back together. Besides that, they work great so far and they are very handy. Works great with google home after setting a PINRead more

I purchased this item to get better range for controlling the door. It worked for me. The control was very easy to install and link to Alexa. I would have liked a 5′ longer sensor cable. I opted to install in parallel with the current switch. I’ve I would have installed directly to the opener… cable length wold not have been an issue… My challenge was that I had no schematic as to where to connect it on the remote board of the garage door opener. I had spent hours and completely dissasembled the Craftsman to get to the pc boards to see if there were bad solder joints on the receiver of the unit… nothing. With the HBN unit and Alexa… I can open/close the door from almost anywhere I can get a wireless connection.Read more

Worked good all summer.. doesn’t work at all during the winter. I thought the unit was completely dead but every now and then I get a notification that the unit is offline so it’s still doing something… what that is though I’m not sure because it doesn’t open the garage door anymore. Due to the cold I haven’t been able to go check the unit out but will do so in the spring. Worked like an absolute charm when I first got it.Read more
