I used these tools to install a whole house water filter with 1″ Pex so these comments are reflective of that use–about 30 cuts and crimps with a few errors in all. These tools work well, but are likely best used for the smaller or middle dimension tubing (3/4″ or less). It barely fit for the max size of 1 ” and needed both hands to open each tool and keep it open just to slide it over the tube. You really need to put the cutters on a flat surface to get a consistent and flat edge because they are so wide at maximum; for the crimp, you need to be strong enough and have a fairly large hand or you will not get it to work at all (I am 6’3′ and lift weights and needed both hands to crimp the 1″ tube). If you purchase this for the sizes greater than 1/2″, plan on getting two thin pipes to fit over the handles to lengthen them to give it some extra leverage and if you are doing overhead, consider how you will get the extra leverage prior to starting the job. One suggestion is to put the clamp in place and get a very small squeeze on it to make it snug on the tube, then reposition the clamp to exactly where you want it and then complete the crimp process. This tool set works very well on PEX. I have used both cinching and crimping in re-plumbing my house-originally built with polybutylene water lines. I used a crimping tool on the adapters between PEX and PB where the adapter comes with crimp bands. This took place at the shower diverter valves and two lines going to outside hose taps. I used cinching everywhere else. Cinching was easier to install and remove, provided a reliable seal and was easier to get the tool on the joint as well. I had to crimp on the above adapters because there was no evidence that a cinch clamp would be acceptable at that interface. The only down side of the cinch is the protrusion on the band left by the cinching process could rub other pipes if left in contact with them and will be in the way a bit when replacing drywall since some of the joints are right at the surface of the framing. Better planning on my part could have prevented that.Read more

I just used this tool and cutter today to run a water line to a yard hydrant. I had to crimp numerous connections as part of this job, everything worked perfectly. The cutter worked well both on the pex pipe I was working on (which measured 1/2 inch), and also to cut some “funny pipe“ I was routing to a sprinkler, it cut both perfectly. The crimper worked great, it is sometimes difficult to get the crimp ring into it and grab both handles to cinch it up, but that is not the fault of the crimpers. They had a nice ratcheting action, and we are easy to manipulate. I would recommend the set, as only the crimper at Home Depot, was twice the priceRead more

I can recommend this tool for handyman projects. This was a great pair of tools for my project to expand baseboard heat into two bathrooms. I think I made about 64 crimped connections and many cuts of 3/4 heat PEX tubing. The tool was setup and ready to crimp. I tested the setting by making three crimps onto brass fittings that I could connect to a garden hose at 50+ PSI. No Leaks. The heating system runs at about 20 PSI so I was confident the tool came ready to use. I would have liked the crimp tool handles to be just two inches longer – or extendable. I think this tool worked very well and I will keep it handy for the next PEX project. The cutter was sharp and easy to use for all of my cuts.Read more

Have yet to use these but very impressed with the quality play around with them a little bit the locking mechanism is a little funky takes a little getting used to but I love them appear to be the same quality I would pay $70 for at Home Depot found that nibco brand clamps are the best fit with this tool with it taller crimping surface because the shorter clamps seem to add a slight bend in clamp allowing a slow drip. This doesn’t appear to be a tool issue but a clamp issueRead more

This is a great deal compared to what the big-box stores want to charge. My only complaint would be that the tool is quite large considering pipe fittings are usually in very tight spaces. But the size isn’t really any bigger than the “brand named” ones.Read more

I have used this on 1″, 3/4″ and 1/2″ PEX and had no leaks. Clean cuts and rings were tightened to the right point on each size. 1″ was definately harder, but worked well.Read more
