I bought this pedal strictly for its volume feature, but I was extremely impressed by the Wah’s versatility. I also own a Dunlop Crybaby Wah that I absolutely love. With the Joyo, I can make it almost sound identical. I had originally looked at the Donner Vowel Wah/Vol, but the plastic construction and seeing the pictures of people sending the gear stick straight through the circuit board worried me. I don’t mind a plastic pedal when it is just a toe tap toggle switch, but when I’m putting my full weight on it I want something a little more solid. The Joyo feels sturdy with its aluminum casing and seems like it will last. If there is one thing, not really a con, just something I noticed, is that the last 10 to 15 percent of the action in the pedal the volume levels out at the top end. So when you are at 85% toe down, you are at 100% volume. The bottom end of the pedal works great and is fantastic for swells. If you are pushing your signal into any high gain pedals with your volume in the front, you may loose the bottom 5% if your gain pedal has any built in noise gates or compressors. Honestly I love the volume control so much, I am considering buying a second one to place after the distortion phase of my chain to give it a distant dynamic. The minimum volume setting is fantastic when paired with my Tube Screamer because it allows me to take the edge off of the beginning of a solo and then allow the cutting distortion to take effect at the climax. So, this thing has 6 different wah types to choose from with a “quality” control knob that allows you to dial in the depth of the wah effect. Personal favorite is wah number 5 with the quality knob at 100% for making solos sing when using my high gain pedals like my metal-zone MT2. The bright green side LEDs are great for knowing your wah is engaged. My Dunlop does not have an indicator and I sometime find my self wondering why I sound weird not realizing it is still on lol. Not sure if it was intentional, but the fact that the LEDs are on the side and not staring straight up blinding you is great. I have other pedal where I have to put my thumb over the light because I can’t see when I go to tweak the controls. The size certainly frees up a lot of space on my pedalboard. May feel a little weird at first, but just put a couple of hours playing into it and you will get used to it. My Dunlop feels huge now. The only con, which I have seen from multiple people, is that you have to press pretty hard to activate the toe switch. Not too bad when you are standing but pretty difficult when you are sitting. Other than that I have zero complaints with this pedal. I would give it a 4.8 for being almost perfect, but since I can’t, I’m going to just round it off to 5. Also, the price point makes up for the loss of the .2 stars lol. Tossing in a picture for size comparison against the Dunlop.Read more

Have been using it for six months now. It’s good, not great. The short travel of the pedal makes it only kinda useful for volume. I much prefer my Morley Little Alligator as it has much more travel and as a result feels like much more range. That may be less about the pedal specifically and more about the effectiveness of mini pedals like this. The button to activate the Wah mode takes some effort. The plus side of this is that I never feel like I’m going to accidentally kick it on. The downside is that when I DO want to kick it on I feel like I need to lean on it harder than I should. As much as that sounds like a negative it’s actually probably what you want to be happening. But it does limit the spontaneity of the process when I have to remember to really stomp on it to get it to engage. Wah mode is where it kind of falls down. It is tweakable but I feel like I’ve spent hours getting it to do something specific where I get 90% of the way there but never totally. Twice in six months I’ve hit the point with it where I’m almost convinced I need to get a bigger board and swap it out with something that I know I can get to do what I want it to do. For the money it checks all the boxes you would want it to but doesn’t do anything so spectacularly that I would say it’s irreplaceable. If you’re like me and just needed something for a few songs in a set it’ll do that but you’re not going to get excited about it. For not much more on the used market you could get two individual pedals that are full-sized and potentially mod-able and end up with something you’re way happier with. However if you’ve already got a pedalboard built and that decision is going to mean more money in a new board and powering it then this is a solid pick. It’ll get the job done but at no point will you find yourself saying “Hey! Check THIS out!!!!”Read more

*update 5-21-20. I did finally get a response and a refund from the manufacturer. It was quite a hassle. Maybe because it was outside of the 90 day window that shows up on the Amazon app for returns. I hope it’s easier in the future. I did purchase another one of these pedals. The manufacturer told me they fixed the problem. I don’t know and I can’t say as I had already moved on to a mooer Free Step. The Joyo is now a back and I have just not used it enough the mooer is excellent. The only things I don’t like about the mooer is that it’s too easy to turn on and off so you have to be careful when using it in wah/volume mode. The other thing is the automatic on/off mode when you just press on the device really didn’t work well enough for me. It was too glitchy. Not as good as say bad horse wah. *update 3-29-20 I would like to correct my previous review. The housing is aluminum alloy not plastic. One of my favorite pedals. Unfortunately it started to malfunction about 6 months after I purchased it. Seems like the pot is worn or malfunctioning and so there is lots of play in the travel of the pedal. This means the wah and volume control is no longer tight or acceptable. I have asked and was told there is a year warranty but so far no response to my question of who to contact. I’ll keep you posted. This wah has lots of features in a compact package. First off the way sounds as good as my Dunlops. The wah was well packaged and works flawlessly. It is solidly constructed plastic so don’t expect it to hold up like a metal one but c’mon most of us try to take care of our gear. I needed a volume to help with volume control during performance. It’s great if you need something to kill your sound if you use high gain and get lots of noise. The taper on volume control ends a little abruptly at the quiet end so there are better pedals out there if you want something flawless for volume swells but you will pay more . I’ve had other Joyo stuff and it’s all been good value for the money. If it was metal and did volume swells perfectly I would give it 5 stars but for the price very good value.Read more

The media could not be loaded. Originally received a used and damaged unit, so I returned and reordered and got a new one. Review: The pedal itself has a unique wah range and voicing, like they all do, that is particular to my ears’ liking. I would recommend watching some YouTube videos as they are pretty accurate to the sound you’ll hear. I like the customizable options, in case you like to experiment or get bored with the same old wah settings.Read more

First review: Need more time yet so far, so good. Second review: Update: 10 days later it developed a huge hiss. Something with the input jack. I liked it before this, so I am willing to give it another chance. I ordered a new one and returning the less new one. I’ll keep this update…ing..??Read more
