Unlike most people here, I didn’t get this to repair phones, but got it for a compact station to work on small projects and keep items organized. I love the storage parts boxes on the top left, and they are perfect for keeping screws and small drill bits. The magnetic section on the right is good for those small items that I seem to always knock off the table. The work space is spacious enough and has a good grip to it. Overall, I find this to be of good quality and am happy with my purchase.Read more

I’ve looked at these for about a year and just never settled on one, finally I did a few measurements, looked at all the options, and picked the S-160 for its size, features, etc. I honestly thought the magnetic bits were going to be useful for me but they have not been, the magnets are really too weak to be of any use. However, the rest is excellent so I’m still giving this 5 stars. It lives full-time on my desk, it protects my desk from day to day wear and holds some stuff in place that’s normally just laying about on my desk. When it comes time to cut something or solder something it’s right there ready. It does get a bit dusty and if you eat on your desk, it gets crumbs on it. They generally will wipe off, or you can just wash the whole thing. It dries pretty fast. When I first got it, it had a bit of a “wrinkle” where it was rolled up but I can’t tell where that was anymore, so it went back to its normal shape pretty fast. I wish it were just a tad deeper, like if the right side trays were as deep as the rear tray area. That’s really the only thing that I would change.Read more

I really like this mat. Because it is a bit tacky it keeps the project in place. This makes it much easier to solder components because I don’t have to chase the PCB around the work surface. I use one of the screw pockets as a gel flux holder which makes it more convenient to both clean the soldering tip and apply flux to the component joint. The only minor complaint I have is the smell. The mat has a definite odor to it. It lessens with time so is not a huge problem, but I did leave my mat outside for a few days before I used it because I found the odor offensive. Although the smell is still present, it became so faint it is no longer a concern. I am also impressed that the seller followed up on the sale to be certain I was happy. Good product and seller.Read more

I will update this if I find any issues going forward, but having said that for the price of 26$ and it including a static bracelet and 2 precision grips along with the mat even if the magnetism turns out to be less than perfect the design is still awesome. The ruler at the bottom shows imperial and metric and is super handy, all of the screw drop points are labeled, everything is more or less and some of the screw containers are magnetized although some have criticized the strength of the magnets… some have pointed out it is not ESD resistant, I will do some tests and research on this, but so long as you are safe and practice proper precautions that you would do on most other surfaces I don’t think that is a valid argument as they don’t claim ESD just “static resistant” and to be fair… the mat itself won’t get damaged by static so it is true. I will update this if I find anything wrong but it really does seem like a great deal, I chose this one despite the price because of the screw drop designed in containers locations and the ruler on the mat as well as the tool slots, the design is awesome and it is cheap… if you want something larger than most things you would ever need for soldering purposes or if you want perfect magnets or containers that close etc you shouldn’t buy a 26$ mat expecting what you would get for a premium good that costs way more. This is large enough to work with my rather large laptop on it in the event I for some reason needed to do that instead of embedded systems work I could albeit my laptop would be slightly off the mat or covering portions of the mat, and I have a pretty big laptop. In no instance would my laptop need to touch a surface other than the mat though, even if it’s hanging off the side the Matt is so thick it wouldn’t touch the table the mat is on. You can see the magnets locations on the back and the slots they are located on are labeled on the top, also if you are wondering why most mats are this color and want to buy a black or Grey mat…. they are this color and some yellow because it makes it easy to find electronic pieces and screws as Grey’s, blacks, etc stand out color wise better contrasting the mat.Read more

I really liked this mat for repairing an iphone. Probably my favorite part was the segmented screw cups. I think this was a much better choice than an all magnetic base. My magnetized screwdriver easily picked up the screw whereas a magnetized base may made it more difficult to remove small screws. The silicone mat does not conduct electricity so I felt fairly confident that components wouldn’t be damage by a stray static electricity spark. I recommend saving the flat box it was shipped in for easy storage unless you choose to roll it up. The box adhesive opened without damage and still would adhere when reused. I’m sure the silicone would also be useful for soldering. While I didn’t utilize every feature of this mat, I was pleased with it for what I needed and would recommend it.Read more
