I bought this instead of investing in the more-expensive pasta roller and cutter set. First, while I love Kitchen Aid mixer products and appreciate their value, I didn’t think a $150 investment was really going to pay off for my household. Would we even use the three attachments enough to justify the cost? Second, I figured I could hand-cut the pasta or use a pastry wheel (and we also have one of those low-tech wooden rolling pins that makes tagliatelle–very cost-effective tool that doesn’t take up much space), and I’d be able to make stuffed pasta as well. Third, I know from making pasta with my mom as I was growing up that the hand-cranked machines require you to have three hands. They may be traditional, but they’re also kind of a pain. I know using an electric-mixer attachment may not be “traditional” but I can promise you that if my nonna and my mom could have used one of these, they would have. (In fact they’d have looked at you like you were crazy if you’d suggested that using this somehow betrayed their Italian heritage, or that they should keep using the more difficult hand-cranked machine instead of an electric one that saves mounds of time.) It works great. Follow the instructions, learn the consistency that dough should be before you put it in the roller–because if it’s not dusted enough with flour it will stick and be hard to clean the rollers–and go for it. Homemade pasta is easier than even I thought it would be. As for this machine, roll the dough strips on a thick-ish setting a couple of times, then make the setting thinner, do it a couple times, etc. Cleaning is easy, assuming your dough is properly floured–you don’t immerse this in water, just use the included brush. If some dough does stick, wait till it dries and then brush it off. I don’t regret my purchase one bit. In fact I doubt I would’ve made homemade pasta without it, given my memories of struggling with the hand-cranked machines (which themselves were a huge improvement over just a rolling pin). Still on the fence about whether I need the cutter attachments, but I promise you this one is worth the investment.Read more

Extremely dangerous. The safety mechanism that old the attachment in place broke while using it. It was my second time using it. The kitchenaid started spinning as I was holding the attachment very strongy. Thankfully my wife unplugged the kitchen before I hurt myself.Read more

There’s nothing like fresh pasta. My 10 year old and I are taking cooking classes (my soon-to-be-ex-wife moved out of the house, and my kids didn’t think I could cook). This is a great accessory for a Kitchen Aid mixer; it doesn’t have a cutting tool, but in our case, the hard work is rolling it out. It’s something we’ll use for many years to come. Fresh pasta – it’s like a whole different food than that dried stuff from the store.Read more

The product stopped rolling pasta within a month of purchase. Unfortunately it happened right in the middle of a dinner event. I also purchased an extended warranty through Asurion. I tried to file a claim online. After completing info for a claim, it said it needed to talk with an Asurion rep who said they would not cover it yet to call KitchenAid (1/2/18). I called KitchenAId (1/2/18) with the number provided by Asurion only to be on hold for 60 minutes to find it was a number in Canada. Wrong number. I tried to engage in online chat. Noting., “The culinary center of my kitchen” is now becoming a brand I don’t trust and and frustrated with from an experience standpoint.Read more

Homemade egg pasta is SO much better than dried store bought, and I don’t mind the simple mixing of egg and flour, but rolling the darn stuff out used to be quite a headache. Using this roller, it’s MUCH simpler, quicker and kind of fun. Once you have the dough, press it out with your fingers to flatten it somewhat, then send it through the rollers several times, starting with the widest setting and work your way down until it’s almost transparent. The egg dough makes a slightly firmer textured pasta, and that bit of protein is good for you too. Excellent for lasagnas — no need to boil pasta in advance. I also have the cutters for fettuccini ribbons and spaghetti. The roller is very easy to attach and detach, easy to wipe clean.Read more

This is a very stable piece of equipment. I was afraid that it would be clumbsy hanging off the end of my KA stand mixer, however it was perfect. It functioned perfectly rolling out the dough. It did NOT have any oil or grease on it that you needed to run through first. I only needed to wipe it down to prep it for use, hook it up and put the mixer on 2 and it worked perfectly. While I don’t have any cutters yet I got creative with cutting dough into noodles. I would highly suggest this item if you are interested in really good homemade pasta.Read more
