As a brand new painter, I purchased the 48 piece set. With more experience, I should be able to mix more of my own colors but didn’t want to frustrate myself right off the bat. I’ve tried about 12 colors so far and am satisfied. The burnt sienna is a bit thick, but it’s very usable. I would strongly suggest to a new painter purchasing this set to also purchase a large tube of titanium white. I have done 3-4 paintings so far and am out of white already. Titanium white is used to dilute other colors quite often and will run out very quickly, so do yourself a favor and order an additional tube of that color along with this set. Additionally, I would suggest purchasing a bottle of white Liquitex Basics Gesso or a similar product. Initially, I found that my canvas was soaking up a lot of paint and discovered that gesso is a product used as a canvas primer. It is inexpensive and greatly reduced the amount of paint I needed to use to get good paint coverage.Read more

In the 90’s this paint was made in the US. I recently got back into painting and bought a few tubes of Professional which came from France. I went on to buy the 48 Basic Sample pack and found they are made in none other then China. Why?? Seems because the Basics are a lower pigment paint, Liquitex produces the cheap stuff in China. I rather buy from another company next time.Read more

The tubes are very small, and the Ultramarine Blue was completely dried up. I am using them on illustration board, and finding it impossible to get a flat color that doesn’t have streaks. After painting an area 4 and 5 times, there are still streaks. It has the look of crappy tempera paint when dry. In the 48 color set, be warned, there is no black, and no white. Some tubes are very runny, and others thick to solid. I teach acrylic painting at the college level, and will not be recommending Liquitex to my students.Read more

This is a good variety set if you don’t want to mix colors yourself, but I deducted some stars because one paint tube was completely empty. The tubes themselves are pretty small (22ml / 0.74oz), so I would recommend these as a supplement to white and the primaries.Read more

This is my first experience with Liquitex Basics acrylic paint. I am a beginner with acrylic paints. Liquitex seems to be a good brand and I had seen many people using the Basics so this is what I started with. I am using primarily with a gel press plate. I found the yellow in this set to be very watery, hardly any pigment and therefore very very light when on the paper. Did I get a bad one??? The other colors seem to have a nice consistency and texture. The colors are: Titanium white, Cadminum yellow medium hue, Naphthol crimson, Phthalo green ( blue shade), Ultramarine blue, Mars black. It says they are excellent for learning color theory and color mixing so they are not primary colors. (When I purchased them I did not find any description of the colors in the Amazon description. Had to find this elsewhere) The Naphthol crimson reads a lot more pink when on the paper than a true red. The Phthalo Green is blue shade.Read more

Look, paint is expensive. If you want to have a collection of the prime colors in your collection, it can really add up and put a huge dent in your wallet. This set has an absolute ton of shades and while the tubes aren’t huge, if you are working on smaller type projects, like I am, the set will last ages. The paints are a great quality and they go on smooth, and look nice and rich. For the price, you really can’t do better.Read more

Let me start this off by saying, before I tried these all I had been using was Apple Barrel brand paints, so it has been like night and day between the two. These paints are thick, and I mean, real thick! They glide over both canvas and mixed media paper alike. I have had no problems with the quilty of paint. I bought these because the YouTube channel I watch tutorials from, Jane, always uses this brand paint, and she never seems to have anything negative to say about them. So, to achieve some of the looks I was going for, my other – cheaper paints were just too thin. On to the colors.. I have liked almost every color I have tried.. Mind you, I have not tried every color yet. Though I have already had to buy tubes of white and black, so keep that in mind if you’re considering purchasing this set. It seems to me like a great starter set to get, but you’re going to run out of certain colors way faster than you might think! Pros: Getting to test the quality of the paints before spending money on individual tubes, and getting to find your favorite shades of colors. Cons: I wish they had included double tubes of mars black and titanium white, but that is the only con I can think of! 🙂 Happy painting everyone!Read more

I was recommended these acrylic paints by a few other Artists. As a professional illustrator, these paints are perfect and the blendability and range of colours you get in this pack is great. Like many other Artists I use these like watercolour to build up colour washes and glazes of thinned colour and these paints are exceptional for this. Also these paints mix very well with each other and you can create other shades of colour easily. The tubes are small, but if you are using them like watercolour and also un thinned they should last, although you can buy larger tubes separately if you get a few favourite colours, I can sense that I’ll be using the Neutral grey 5 more as I can grey tone stuff with that paint and also light portrait pink which gives a nice mid tone colour for skin. This is a great paint set and one that I would recommendRead more

As a beginner artist I was a bit sceptical about buying liquitex acrylic paint as I was told to buy winsor and newton professional. But as this is only my second painting I’m over the moon with Liquitex and love how easily they mix and blend for a beginner artist. The paint is not too fast to dry and brushes clean easily. I really shall buy more liquitex paint I like them so far. If you are a beginner artist and want to concentrate on your painting not your paints then I’d fully recommend Liquitex paints.Read more

I love colours! and if you need them just to mix with modelling paste or for details – amount is outstanding. This is more than 1litre of paint (I chose the 48 version x 22ml each) . They mix beautifully and I will definitely buy again and recommend to everyone who will ask me for quality paints and mediums.Read more

The colours are beautiful and bright, very accurate to more expensive pigments. They go onto surfaces well and layer wonderfully. Some of the colours (yellows and reds mostly) are very transparent despite claiming to be ‘opaque’, but this is a common thing with Acrylic paints. I’m using these for practice and personal works, a very good introduction to acrylic paints.Read more

Perfect selection of colours, Really good coverage. I’ve uploaded a almost finished portrait so you can see how good they are. I personally use these with liquitex Matt medium, you manage to get more out of the paint and it helps when blending & stops it drying as quick. Follow my IG @gonzatt_artwrldRead more
