This bag is BIG which is definitely worth it for the price. I added a pic for comparison. I’m 5’10 and the bag is the length of my leg. I personally love Miracle Gro for my plants (inside and out). They do have fungus gnats which isn’t an issue for my outside plants and isn’t a deal breaker for my inside plants. If I need to use it for inside plants I’ll do one of two things: 1. I usually try to avoid putting soil immediately in my plants when I get a new bag. If I have to, I add cinnamon to the soil, and water them with diluted Neem Oil which takes care of the issue. 2. My usual route is to open the bag, pour the contents in a container and let it “bake” in the sun for a couple of days which effectively kills the fungus gnat issue. I understand this may be a lot of work for some people but, Miracle Gro is a relatively cheap brand of soil, so issues are to be expected. The work around really just depends on your patience and need. Hope this helps and I will definitely be purchasing again.Read more

I rarely write bad reviews & try to resolve things with the company first (I know things happen) but feel I need to warn people. I don’t have much but my plants for years & this is killing them just so a company makes a quick, dishonest buck & I’m disgusted that people step on others to get ahead! This is a major health hazard in my circumstances. I wrote this letter to the company & they never had the decency to respond! : I’ll never purchase this again! I’m in a wheelchair & have enough issues, now I have fungus gnats everywhere & they’re killing my plants! I should’ve listened to the reviews. You really shouldn’t buy cheaper products to make more money from the resale! Repeat customers & reputation pays off in the long run. Very disappointed!Read more

This soil had small worms in it. Commonly known as the larvae of fungus gnats. Ruined my plants. Just to be sure I checked what was left in the bag and yes, they were there. Don’t bother! Thought ordering from Amazon during this coronavirus crisis would be safer and easier. Instead I got infested soil .Read more

Used to repot indoor tree to a larger pot…. easy enough…. except this planting mix is full of gnats. Now my house has hundreds of pesky little flying bugs. Should have known better because I had this same experience a few years ago with the same soil. The little buggers died off after several weeks. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCTRead more

All the bad reviews about fungus and bugs are old. I bought this in February of 2019 and it was only 10 buck for 16 QTs. Pretty good deal honestly. It also came a week early for me. I used about 3/4 of the bag filling up a 12 inch tall 5 inch wide pot, and a 24in X 7in X 5in pot. An xbox game for size comparison.Read more

So I get home today and see a box with a Lowe’s logo on it and I’m thinking, I didn’t order anything from Lowe’s. I open it up to see it’s the potting mix I bought on Amazon. I look at the packing slip to see that I basically paid someone $3 to order it from Lowe’s and ship it to my address. That’s what I get for being stubborn about buying everything from Amazon. Not complaining really, I just think it’s ridiculous. Bought for my indoor herb garden. I found some feral mint and lemon balm growing in my lawn. You couldn’t miss the aroma every time I mowed. Problem is my local soil is comprised of mostly fine gravel, sand and other fine particulate, which is terrible for potting. For those of you who have criticized that this mix is mostly peat moss and wood much, the reason they put that stuff in potting mix is that it retains moisture and doesn’t become compacted. When a plant is trapped in a clay or plastic container, earthworms can’t agitate the soil and it isn’t well protected from evaporation, it just makes sense. Obviously, that depends on what type of plant you’re growing. I’ve had a lot of good experience with Miracle-Gro, it’s a reliable go-to brand. If you’re experiencing issues with gnats, I’ve got an easy solution for you. Get a pouch of organic pipe tobacco, and use it to make “tobacco tea.” Load that up in a spray bottle and liberally mist the soil of any offending planter. It’ll take care of quite a few of common pest-insects. I would strongly ask you not to this with outdoor flowering plants though, as nicotine is also poisonous to honey bees, and they’re having a hard enough time as it is. Despite being closely related to bees, I’ve learned that nicotine is totally ineffective against ants and termites. I’m not seeing any flies or gnats in my bag, and it’s just the consistency I expected. Haven’t yet had the time to use it yet, but I thoroughly expect good results. Mint and lemon balm grows like a weed. That’s partly why I want to remove it from my lawn. But rather than killing it I figured I’ll gently remove it and keep them contained. There’s nothing like fresh mint tea!Read more

Soil riddled with gnat eggs that continue to hatch and fly everywhere. Had to throw the bag out and I purchased two bags.Read more

The soil is great, I love it. However, I don’t know if the little bugs flying around all of a sudden, are coming from the soil. They shouldn’t because I baked the soil in the oven before I put it into the pots.Yet, when I put those sticky strips around the pot, millions of the bugs get stuck on them. No matter how many of them get stuck in the traps, they never seem to go away. I need to buy more soil, but I’m reluctant.Read more

This large quantity of potting soil brought with it the largest, most persistent infestation of gnats I have ever seen. I potted some new rooted cuttings for friends, who now also have winged visitors. I generously topped up the soil of large, older plants in our seniors’ home hallways. I’m relying on sticky traps, nematodes and the power of prayer. What happened to the practice of sterilising soil before bagging and selling?Read more

Seriously. Signature required by seller for a bag of soil. What a waste of time to have to take time off work to go to the post office to sign for the parcel, when we’re supposed to be aiming for contactless delivery. soil itself.. fine. its soil. no rips. box duct-taped together.Read more

I was very worried about the reviews regarding the fungus gnat infestations people were experiencing, but so far I haven’t noticed many. I repotted most of my plants around a month ago and so far I’ve only noticed maybe 5 max fungus gnats in the house, which could even be from some of my newer plants that I haven’t done any repotting with. The soil seems to be fine and even my monstera has started putting out a new leaf.Read more

Read the reviews, believe the reviews. This earth is contaminated and very mouldy, it will kill every plant you have, don’t waste your time and money. Told Amazon about the contamination and they shouldn’t be selling this, fell on deaf ears.Read more
