Long story (about 6 hours long, actually…) short: Had a perfectly functional setup of Motorola modem/NetGear router until we decided to replace our reliable SurfBoard with this product. This modem works – don’t get me wrong. But not only did Xfinity take over an hour to get it registered and up and running (a process that usually takes 5 minutes), but as soon as you try and connect a router to this you’ll realize it doesn’t work. I’m sure it’s SUPPOSED to work.. but it sure didn’t. Mind you, we were connecting it to a Nighthawk NetGear router. After spending 3 hours with NetGear on tech support they finally dropped the pearl that “..your router must be broken.” After dismissing them, plugging back the old modem, calling Xfinity again (..and, voila, having the modem up and running in literally 2 minutes…) BEHOLD, my friends, the miracle – as our router RISES FROM THE DEAD, and works flawlessly as it always had before. As far as I’m aware, until someone posts a review that dictates this modem works with routers my personal experience is that it doesn’t. Even if it does, and we got a defective unit, a two hundred and thirty dollar modem that took 6 hours of tech support to simply fail miserably at being a modem is probably not worth your time. Do not buy this product. Bought this Netgear on May 9,2021, thinking I was buying a top quality product. On June 29th, we lost internet. Checked this modem and all the lights were flickering bright white. Reset it and it did the same thing. So called Netgear to see what we could do to get it back working. They did all kinds of steps and finally said it was my internet service provider and to get with them. My oldest son plugged our old modem back in and it started working. It wasn’t our ISP. I’ve been busy with work and called Netgear today, July 4th, to tell them it wasn’t the ISP; she told me to keep resetting the modem. I told her how many times do I need to reset it before it starts working since I’ve done did it at least 50 times. She then tells me they were going to replace it and we will need to send the unit back. Great! Except I have to pay to ship it back because she stated it has been more than 2 months since we bought it. (It hasn’t been. It went out on June 29th to which I called right away to get it fixed. May 9th to June 29th is only 56 days). But whatever. Now I have an expensive paperweight because I refuse to spend more money on this. Buy at your own risk. I’ve read other reviews stating the same.Read more

  3. Never too old!

I was so excited to see this modem. It was a modem that had 4 ethernet ports! What a solution to my home network. The older construction of my home requires hardwired connections to be reliable internet service. I have a finished basement whose walls are concrete, so the wifi doesn’t work well and if there is any load needed for processing or game play, it HAS to be hardwired. So here I thought I had the solution! I could take the main lines we use and connect them to this modem (4 ports: 3 computers and then the router be placed in the other room). What a solution to the wifi integrity to have the router in the another, more centralized room of the house and then be able to supply wifi to phones, tablets and laptops as well as hardwire a computer, DVD player or other device. NOPE, you CAN’T use the other ports that way. You MUST plug the router in the first port and then NONE of the other hardwired cables would work in the other 3 ports! So why did I pay for the other 3 ports?? They are functional for something, I’m not sure what, but they DO NOT allow a simple hardwired computer to be attached to them. So I’m back to my original set up with the router right next to the modem and everything plugged into the router and then have to have another router in the other room. The advertisement leads you to believe it is a true modem/router in one. I DO HOPE YOU READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY IT THINKING YOU COULD DO THE SAME. Having said that, the modem works great. It pushes though the faster speeds I am getting from the cable company and the new router I also got (also a Netgear product) is fabulous. It’s an AC1750 and the wifi range is very good compared to the other router I had. It would have been fantasitic if I could have located this router in the other central room of my home! Oh well. In closing, in my situation, I should have just went with a one port modem and saved a few bucks. Since the other 3 ports on this modem aren’t functional for what I needed it to do, the ports are pretty useless to me. If anyone knows a way to get other hardwired computers to be attached to this modem, I would appreciate the advise. I’ll keep reading and see if I can figure out the function of the other 3 ports.Read more

I would give this zero stars if that was an option. We have had this modem for less than a year and it completely stopped working. I called Netgear (because it says there is a 1 year warranty) but they won’t even talk to me unless I pay $89 for a 6 month support contract. Apparently although they advertise a 1 year warranty, all tech support stops at 90 days. That’s almost half of what I paid for the defective modem in the first place! Why on earth would I pay you more to confirm that your product is a piece of junk?? Highly dissatisfied. I will never purchase another Netgear product. The customer service is TERRIBLE and they completely misrepresent the warranty and their willingness to support their customers. DO NOT BUY. Consider yourself warned.Read more
