NOCO GENIUS1, 1-Amp Fully-Automatic Smart Charger, 6V and 12V Battery Charger, Battery Maintainer, Trickle Charger, and Battery Desulfator with Temperature Compensation

I have a truck that mostly sits in the garage. Every time I need to back it out of the garage, the battery is dead. I know that just sitting isn’t good for batteries, not to mention this battery is several years old. Now keep in mind, this is a large amp battery for a SUV, which was so dead, a turn of the key and I didn’t even get lights on the dash. I stuck this little charger on it and it took a day and a half, but it charged completely. Ok, now I’m beginning to get a tad impressed. I have two of those old type chargers, you know the ones that after a while you can hear the acid boiling inside the battery, and the battery is getting really hot… you know the chargers that tell you not to leave it on your battery for any extended period of time as this might (will) damage the battery (possibly even start a fire). Well… no more. I’m a total convert now to using smart chargers, and this one seems especially good. I really hope I don’t find some little something that breaks 6 months from now, cause I really like this charger! It seems very well designed and made and most of all, it works great. The only negative I can find, it has a single button to select one of several charging modes, and LED’s to indicate which option you have chosen, and those LED’s are pretty much self explanatory, as well as an advanced mode where you have to push and hold the single button to enter advanced charging mode. For example, if your battery is so bad, the charger cannot detect there is even a battery hooked up, you can tell it to go ahead and start charging anyway which is a really nice feature. As another reviewer mentioned, when you need to use some of the more advanced functions, if you’ve lost the booklet, well… good luck. The multi-language booklet briefly explains all of the options, what the LED’s mean, and that’s pretty much it, verbose it isn’t.. It comes in a really nice packaging, like you’re really getting something ( and you are), the unit itself seems well made and thought out, you would think a bit more of an effort would have been put into the manual. But, perhaps the product speaks for itself… and it does. And, after all most users will hook it up to their 12 volt car/boat/motorcyle battery, plug it in, select the regular 12v battery option, and that’s all most will ever need. Once the battery is charged completely, the charger senses that, and switches automatically to just maintaining the battery. If you loose power while charging (or maintaining), this charger just picks up right where it left off, so there is no worries about pushing buttons or selecting modes, it knows what you were doing before, and starts right back up with doing it again. However, AXTRA has 3.6-amp and 0.9-amp selection for fast and slow charge. AXTRA also has o-ring eyelet for motorcycle’s battery. Overall, AXTRA car battery charger is better than NOCO Genius 1. For the same price, I would definitely choose AXTRA battery charger maintainer than NOCO battery charger. I used this battery charger to keep my car battery always full especially during pandemic because I need to work from home so I don’t drive every day. So easy! Incredible value and so straight forward to use. I had a dead battery from lack of use (Covid) and needed to restore/repair/condition and re-charge slowly in a trickle charge and then maintain indefinitely. I couldn’t figure out if the Genuis Noco1 which is a 1AMP was good enough. The only real difference with larger more powerful versions is just the time it takes to fully charge. I found the chart for the time it takes. Why pay more when you are storing a car/battery. I have a 70AMP batter and it will basically take 50 hours. I am very impressed with the quality, simplicity and price. This is one of the best value buys I have made recently and saved wasting a battery to sulfation.Read more

Très satisfait. Ce chargeur à parfaitement répondu a mes besoins. Je me suis cassé la jambe juste avant le confinement et ma femme ne conduit ps manuel alors ma batterie est tombée tellement à plat que je n’arrivais même plus à ouvrir mon coffre. J’ai acheté ce chargeur même si les reviews disaient qu’il n’était bon que pour les batteries jusqu’à 30ah. Au pire je le retournerai right… J’ai donc branché ce chargeur sur ma batterie à plat de 70ah (qui en passant avait étée booster deux trois petite runs par des amis histoire de dérouiller mes freins puis retombée a plat). Après quelques heures j’ai essayé d’ouvrir mon coffre mais sans succès, je me preparais déjà à retourner le chargeur. Finalement je le laisse brancher et le lendemain, mon coffre ouvre! Mais tjrs pas assez de jus pour mettre la clé a ON. Néanmoins j’ai vu que ca chargeait. Alors après 5 jours(Environ), je constate que la LED du chargeur clignote vert (+75% de charge). J’embarque dans l’auto et démarre. Le char a parti avec d’la force en masse et je l’ai faite virer un peu le temps de puffer et ecouter du beat. J’éteind ca, rebranche le chargeur et deux jours plus tard(peut etre avant j’ai pas verifier hier) la batterie est a 100%! I bought this through Amazon UK website and was sent a unit with an American plug. This is as useful as a chocolate fire guard and will go back. There was no mention in the add for the product that it was supplied with a US plug and I would need to buy an adaptor. They can have this back!Read more

this battery maintainer/charger is suppose to be able to recognize when a battery is fully charged and maintain the battery. I dont know if i got a defective noco genius 1 but mine DID NOT recognize when battery is fully charged and kept charging. I heard boiling water noises within my 12V sealed battery and unplugged it. I tested the battery a day afterwards and it was fully charged while noco had it on red light (below 75%). DO NOT BUY BEFORE YOU DAMAGE YOUR BATTERY OR BURST THE BATTERY. I suggest amazon remove its best seller and amazons choice labels until further investigation of this product to deem its safety.Read more

Just FYI – this charger only works for batteries UP TO 30 AMPS ! Most car batteries are 600-800 cold cranking amps. Left it on my car for 2 weeks and still failed to start. Ended up buying another charger that was 1000amps and car started after having it on less than 12 hours. There is a note, at the bottom of the product description that mentions in passing that this charger is only good for batteries up to 30 AMPS.. that should be in BOLD at the TOP OF THE DESCRIPTION.Read more

I bought this based on misleading information in Amazon reviews. I thought this would be a good unit to serve as a trickle charger when my cars are in storage. I found that the unit stays on charge for several days then goes into error saying battery is no good and cannot hold a charge. I tried this on three of my cars including on a brand new battery. They all go into error saying bad battery after several days. After spending time with Noco tech support I am told this unit times out after 120 hrs and is programmed to say “bad battery”. Tech support says this unit is not intended for automotive use and is only for small 30 amp hr. Batteries. They said that a Genius 5 is the smallest unit that should be bought for automotive use. This might be suitable for a motorcycle or lawn mower but not a car and certainly not to be left plugged in as a battery maintainer. The first person to offer me 25 cents can have it. As we’ve all been staying home a lot since the start of the pandemic, our car batteries haven’t had a chance to be recharged via 30+ minutes of driving per day… and my one-year-new car battery, after six months of perhaps only ten minutes of driving a few times a week, finally decided it didn’t have enough juice to start the car. I checked on Amazon for various battery chargers and initially wanted to get a $30 made-in-you-know-where trickle battery charger (all of them with at least a few horrible reviews), but when I saw this American brand, NOCO, I was sure it’d be worth the $50 price tag. I was right (the glowing reviews helped, too)! The quality is top-notch, the ease of use can’t be beaten and it works perfectly. The NOCO Genius1 1-Amp is the cheapest NOCO smart charger for car battery/other battery, so it takes a while to charge an almost dead car battery (I left mine plugged in overnight)… but if you’re not in a rush, there’s a decent savings to be had versus the more expensive, quicker-charging versions. It works! At first, I used the pre-installed clamps to clamp the negative/positive terminals of the car battery, but I removed the hex screws and attached the NOCO eyelets permanently to my battery, so that I could just plug the charger in weekly to make sure the battery doesn’t die on me (who knows how long the pandemic will last…). The negative/positive terminals can be unplugged from the wall outlet, which makes it convenient to leave the leads permanently attached to your car battery, but leave the plug/charger itself at home or in the glovebox. The eyelets fit over 10mm bolts perfectly. Highly recommended!!!Read more
