I began looking into improving the quality of my two cats’ health through diet with a freeze-dried food containing quality ingredients, and I tried this one (Turkey and Duck) since the cats are not allowed to have any fish or seafood due to urinary issues. I used the freeze-dried pellets three ways: (1) whole pellets, either dried or soaked in warm water, (2) dry crumbled with my fingers and mixed in with regular dry food, and (3) dry crumbled and then rehydrated to form a paste like pate wet food. With all 3 ways, I had one cat that loved the food, and the second cat (the picky one with the most urinary issues) who didn’t like it. The cat that loved the food REALLY loved it – I stored it on the kitchen counter, and the cat would hop up there in the middle of the night and chew through the bag. Multiple times. I moved it, put it inside another plastic bag, but he chewed through everything to get to these “treats.” Yes he is a pig, but it shows how some cats will go crazy for this. The other cat though wouldn’t eat it any way. I even tried mixing it with her regular wet food but she wasn’t very interested. So there you go. Yes, I think this is a quality product, and yes, I think I will buy again. But cats are picky and not all cats will eat this food and gain the benefit from it.Read more

So I bought these haphazardly without reading the ingredients assuming they were simply raw [without vegetables]. Sadly, they were not. When will people realize carnivores don’t need spinach? To be fair the 4 kittens I care for enjoyed them immensely; like immediately tore into them when placed on the plate. It was their 1st solid meal (just started weaning) and it was successful.Read more

This is a high quality cat food, made & sourced in the USA. Unfortunately neither on of my cats like it 🙁 I also tried the nulo canned food and the one cat ate it for awhile and will still unenthusiastically eat it. However I tried the Chewy brand “American Journey” and they really like that. It’s grain free and made in the USA and a little less expensive. You have to buy it from Chewy though.Read more

Finally something healthy for my cats that they love. I crumble it over the only food they like which is not healthy cat food. Its probably the equivalent of cheetos in catfood. They like it and will eat it and no other brand so i found this thats good for them and add it on top and its a hit. i have tried almost every brand of healthy cat food but they refuse it so this is the only way to get them to eat something good for them. Its expensive but i suppose its alot cheaper than vet bills. I do recommend this though.Read more

Originally purchased to give my finniky sphynx cat a bribe when he doesn’t want to eat he refused none of my 5 cats will not touch it and then I offered it to the raccoons I have 4 different species none of them wanted it either . The bag arrived an ounce lighter than the 3.5 oz it is a waste of your money if I can give you my advice even if it was the proper weightRead more

Our 3 kitties will eat it, and I don’t have any reasons to doubt that it may be better for them than canned/bagged/pouch from the store…but you’ll be AMAZED at how little food you get for the money here. I would describe this as a “sampler”, at best…save yourself a ton of consternation, and pick another option – this is crazy food that only the ultra wealthy can afford – very disappointing 🙁 Post Script – just noticed that all 3 bags which we were foolish enough to purchase are expired less than 8 weeks after purchase…NOT GOOD :-(Read more

After seeing dandruff on two of my cats, I did some research and discovered my cats skin may be dry from lack of moisture in their diet. In the beginning, all 3 of my cats were on a dry food diet. But after watching Jackson Galaxy’s YouTube video on food differences, I decided to change that. Wet canned food research was giving me a headache because I have a cat who is also allergic to most grains. Even some wet food brands claiming to be ‘grain-free’ still had rice and corn in the ingredients list! So I began searching Raw food. I found 2 different brands on Amazon and gave them a shot, compared, and fed them to my cats. Here are the Nulo Freestyle Freeze dried raw food results. These were the test subjects: Banana – Age 6 – Breed Gray Chartreux – High energy and high affection. Picky eater. Have to trick her to eat healthy. She’ll only eat the raw food with the smallest amount of water in the bowl, she likes to have some dry bits of food in between, and some crunchy cat treats on top to bribe her into eating. It took her 4 days before I could get her to eat taste a little bit of raw food, she actually still prefers her dry food. Despite her pickiness, she does finish ALL of the Nulo brand in her bowl. The same cannot be said for the other competitors brand I bought. Derpy – Age 10 – American Shorthair Tabby – Largest and most sensitive cat. Loves to eat TOO much, will eat other cats food if I don’t keep an eye on her. She developed a grain and corn allergy at age 6, finding safe foods for her can be challenging. She likes her food to be fully hydrated with water, but won’t eat it if there is too much water on the top. She is no fool and doesn’t wish to ‘fill up on water.” She had zero difficulties with the inclusion of raw food into her daily routine. Pooky – Age 12 – Breed American Shorthair Black -Oldest cat. Laid back, patient, has arthritis and asthma. “Don’t cite the old magic to me witch, I was there when it was written!” Pooky prefers the raw food heavily watered down with lots of warm water, to the point there is a pool of gravy fats that appears at the top. She’ll drink all the gravy water, then wait about 15 minutes and come back to finish the rest of her meal. Pooky had a little difficulty in the beginning getting used to the raw food, it wasn’t until I began to heavily water it down that she would accept and eat all of it. She can’t eat it all in one go tho, and paces herself. ****Each cat is having dry food in the morning and then raw food with water in the evening. Measured half of what they need for the day based on the bag measurement instructions on the back of the food bag. My picky princess cat Banana still prefers dry food over raw food, so I don’t think I’ll be able to do a full transition to freeze-dried raw for awhile.**** Pros- -Appetizing color. The pellets have a pink/orange color similar to a salmon fillet. Remember, cats can see color. While it is different from what we see from our eyes, they definitely prefer something that looks like meat compared to boring brown canned food. -Mouth-watering smell. I won’t lie, I was adding water to their food one night and I hadn’t eaten for a bit. The foods smell gets potent after adding water, and hit me like an aromatic bomb and made my tummy growl.

I recently read an article about freeze dried raw meat food for pets because it is closer to what their large cat cousins in the wild eat. So I bought this small bag try and gave them a couple morsels and they love it. I will add it to their current food plan . Good job Nulo!!Read more
