As a veterinarian, we see patients daily for GI upset (anything from decreased appetite, burping/gulping, vomiting, diarrhea, excess gas). While there can be underlying parasitic, infectious, inflammatory conditions (GI or non-GI related- we see it with pancreatitis, kidney/liver disease, and even heart conditions), if they aren’t dehydrated and no other symptoms and we think they just have something transient (i.e. maybe just a little dietary indiscretion), we now have non-antibiotic anti-diarrhea options other than metronidazole. The probiotics we recommend the most are proviable, forti flora, and synacore. This proviable paste can be an effective anti-diarrhea for mild cases. Cats and dogs don’t seem to mind the taste like some do the clove-ish flavor of diagel. Good to keep on hand (store properly!) and remember if your pet is dehydrated, painful, febrile, etc seek care immediately, there are plenty of serious conditions that start out mild and progress quickly.Read more

The paste is impossibly difficult to get out of the tube into a cats mouth because it is so thick and solid. Pushing the plunger almost takes two hands. Holding a cat while doing such, also next to impossible. I squirted it onto my finger and then scraped it off into the corner of my cats’ mouths. The pills, while they can be sprinkled on food, must taste horrible because I have two cats that eat nearly anything and both cats walked away from their food when I sprinkled the capsules on their food. The capsules are not large (approx the size of a Benadryl capsule) so if you can pill your pet, that might ensure they actually get the contents. I just started this program after struggling to control loose bowels on my cats. Even with Rx GI food and multiple vet trips, labs, also FortiFlora, nothing seems to work outside of canned pumpkin (which is not a complete diet for a cat). I will update once I know if this stuff work. But first impressions, this is quite difficult to administer and I can not recommend. UPDATE: The last 8 doses of this product were completely liquid and wasted as they shot out of the tube. This tells me the product is poorly packaged. The beginning of the tube was rock hard and like sand while the last doses were all liquid. Horrible consistency. It looks like many people have these quality issues with the paste. Really disappointing to see a product with constant quality issues being sold. Will be reporting to Amazon.Read more

I have a 15-year-old cat who had intestinal cancer last year. After surgery to remove it, and ongoing chemotherapy, her time in the litter box became frequent, messy, and very, very smelly. It was also a challenge to get her to eat at times. It just didn’t seem like she had an appetite. She wouldn’t touch FortiFlora, no matter what I tired (admittedly, her younger stepbrother loves that stuff). A week after starting her on the Proviable (with permission from her vet and oncologist), there was a significant improvement. She began eating A LOT more and her litter box habits returned to normal. I would definitely recommend this, but always check with your vet first.Read more

I got this for my pup who’s had loose stools due to colitis as a result of having swallowed a toy that he’s vomited at the vet’s office and was then put on 1 week of Flagyl. I had no clue this antibiotics/anti-diarrheal was so volatile it caused him to continue to have loose stools 1 week after he stopped taking them. Despite being on a bland diet, and starting Advita, another powder probiotics that’s usually pretty effective, days after he was put on Flagyl, he continued to have unformed, mucousy stools but otherwise, acted his normal playful, food loving self. I called our vet who suggested to do a fecal test, 2 more weeks of Flagyl and putting him on Royal Canin prescription diet for a minimum of 3 weeks. I didn’t agree with this approach nor did I want to give my pup the RX kibble she suggested, especially, after reading the ingredients. (My pup is raw fed, BTW, and I could not transition him back to raw at all on Advita). So, after reading hundreds of reviews, I went ahead and ordered Proviable paste/capsule combo. Lo & behold, just after 1 dose of the paste and capsule night, came his first perfectly formed stool the very next morning! On day 2 of the paste twice a day, I was able to switch him back to raw 100%. I have used Advita and Fortiflora in the past but after this experience, I’m switching to Proviable capsules. I do like the ingredients better, it’s definitely cheaper to get the 80 capsules and most importantly- it works and IT WORKS FAST!Read more

Our GSP who has a sensitive stomach to begin with got into a bag of beef jerky which resulted in his body rejecting it from both ends! It had been 6 days of monitoring him back and forth and knowing he didn’t feel well, but not feeling emergent vet care (and several hundred dollars in vet fees) was necessary. He’d previously had a GI upset from a UTI and the vet gave us Proviable, so I decided to give the Amazon purchase a try… within 2 days he was pretty much 100% back to normal. Normal bathroom habits, and eating and drinking just like nothing ever happened. So worth the money, and not having to take him to the vet with unnecessary stress on BOTH of us. I purchased this kit plus a 2 months supply of the capsules (separately) and I was really hopeful that this would do for my cat what combinations of corticosteroids, probiotics, glucosamine, and stomach acid inhibitors have not been able to do. I have seen no marked improvement of my cat’s frequent vomiting nor has my cat put on any weight. He has what the vet suspects to be chronic inflammation of the bowel of unknown aetiology. I have not taken him to the vet for another x-ray of his gut so I do not know if the inflammation of his colon is the same as before but, given that all his symptoms continue, I suspect that it is. On the positive side, he is no worse for the wear – the Proviable paste and the probiotic capsules were fairly palatable and caused no side effects. I am happy that so many people on this site have reported positive results – given that you have nothing to lose, I would suggest that concerned pet owners go ahead and give this product a try.Read more
