Used on the Oklahoma Joe Highlander. I prepped the surface as directed. I then measured strips to lay along the cooking chamber. I read a few reviews where other customers had different issues, so I only applied it to the cooking chamber to test it before applying to the firebox. The strips appeared to be a little wider than the width of the lip. Right away I noticed that the cooking chamber lid would not close properly after installation. It would be a little while before I was able to use the smoker, which is not an issue because the instructions state that at least 24 hours should pass before the smoker is used. On the day of the cook, I fired up the smoker to see how much smoke would bleed out. As expected, there was massive leakage out of the cooking chamber. In order to properly smoke my food, I would have to remove the gaskets or else the cooking chamber lid would not close all the way and I would be wasting a lot of charcoal and wood due to the leakage. The gaskets peeled off quite easily, even though they were installed a few weeks before I used the smoker and had not been used in a cook up to that point. Very disappointed in this Oklahoma Joe product. It did not appear suited for their product, and it seems that it’s intended to be paired with their clamps. The directions do state that it’s best paired with grill clamps, but there’s no indication that this product was DEPENDENT on them. My takeaway: This product is intended to be used with grill clamps, and this should be explicitly annotated. This product will likely fail without them, and customers should be aware of this fact.Read more

Gaskets of better or the same quality run around $5 at any hardware store. It’s 3m tape, which is top of the line, just overpriced. The door latch is probably made for $0.50, the price is insane here. The screws are crap quality, I had to run to the local hardware store to replace the screws as the ones sent in the package stripped easily with a handheld screwdriver under minimal pressure. After installing everything correctly the smoker works far better. Night and day difference, and far less leakage. The items should probably get sent with the setups by default as the smoker is almost useless without it.Read more

The seal works well when it stays in place. I did a LOT of research before buying my OJ Highland smoker, and knew going in that this was one of the mods necessary. That said, the seal does work, however I’ve found that it doesn’t like to keep adhesion. After assembly of my smoker (and before it’s seasoning and first use), I cleaned ALL the surfaces where this seal would be applied. I used a degreaser to get rid of any manufacturing oils, thoroughly dried surfaces and then used alcohol for a final touch up, allowing the surfaces to dry in the NC sun for an hour. Once applied, I closed the lids and left them in place for about 3 days before doing my “burn in” of the smoker (even though instructions say cure time is 24 hrs for adhesive). Even after 3 days, the seal around the entire fire box just fell off after the burn in. The cook chamber fared only slightly better, with the top and left sides staying in place. I’ve considered using the high temp rtv as an added adhesive, though I’ve not done it….yet. The product works, but you’ll be applying new seal after every cook.Read more

All was good for the first 4 smokes. Today I went out to smoke another brisket and I notice the seal was just dangling. It has come off. The adhesive is go, guessing the smoke deteriorated the glue. Check the rest of the seals, they to are falling off. Not worth it, if i had to keep replacing the seal after a few cooks.Read more

Somewhat of a pain to install, but not a deal breaker. Worked well, closing my lid nice and tight. After a couple uses, the rubber on the latch where it meets the grill cracked and fell off!!! I was careful to make sure they were adjusted correctly to seal the grill, but not too tight to apply too much pressure on the rubber. I also did not use them when “grilling”, only when I was “smoking” with low heat. Not sure what the problem was…poor materials, poor design, etc.Read more

I took a good amount of time measuring and cutting this gasket to be “just right”. During the first the glue bled through in a few spots (from the heat of the smoker I assume) and it ripped about half of it off when I opened the lid of the smoker. I then had to rip the rest off right away to keep it from falling on the brisket I was smoking. Absolute Junk, would not recommend.Read more

Good product and easy to install on the smoker but it needs better adhesive. After one use on the smoker, the next time we went to use it we noticed the gasket was already starting to peel off the smoker. It wasn’t a huge deal and it did stay in place so not hardly any air escaped. I still recommend buying this product because you don’t need any air to escape but Oklahoma joes still needs to look into the adhesive issue.Read more

I put this strip around the cooking chamber of my Oklahoma Joes highlander. The surface was cleaned in preparation. It started pealing off immediately. Avoid.Read more

This was super easy to install. I followed the simple instructions and was done in less than 10 minutes. I now have a perfect around the door on my Pitboss 700 fb smoker. It now holds temps much easier saving me cooking time and decreases the pellets needed to cook! I would definitely recommend this to anyone!Read more

It does the job as stated, however it only lasts about 10 hours of cooking before it falls off because the glue isn’t sticking anymore. also when you cut it, frays a lot.Read more
