Took me a while to figure this out so I thought I’d share. You need to line up the rivets with the notches to find the chain pitch. It’ll be either 3/8, .404, 1/4, or .325. Poke your file through the hole to find its size. Stick the round nubby part into your chain or slip the chain guide into the tool to find the groove width and chain gauge. Itll be the same measurement. Hope this helps!Read more

So small, it fits in the palm of my hand. I’m fine with that. However this will be put in the gear bag with my files, wedges, scrench and bar oil. Using it it may get a splash of 2 stoke fuel on it as well. That said, the screen printed writing is sure to wear or scratched off. Perhaps it could be stamped in the plastic, even if were to accumulate bar oil and sawdust, the voids would be filled in and easy to read. Or even better, make it out of aluminum, stamp the printing and charge a fee more bucks?Read more

This little device comes with no instructions. It comes in a sealed plastic bag and is approximately 4 inches in width by 2-1/2 inches in height, at its widest points and approximately 1/16 inch thick. Mine came with a broken tip on the .058 gauge. It was in the package like this when it arrived. I’m not sure where the missing broken piece of the tool went as the piece was not in the sealed plastic bag. It seems like a handy tool to carry and use with your chain saw bar and chain. I was a little disappointed there weren’t some kind of simple instructions for its use though….and of course, it was broken on one of the tips. It truly is “shirt pocket size”!Read more

Received with a big barcode sticker on surface – blocking most of information. Very good adhesive on sticker, could not remove it. Spayed some GOO GONE and sticker came off so did most of the printed information on measuring tool. I have used this spray on numerous items and never had any problem.Read more

Product arrived with a big sticker across the face with a bar code, pull it off and off came the letters. Understand it’s just a cheap piece of plastic, but now fairly useless.Read more

1-star: the red plastic gauge arrived, and there was sticky adhesive on the top, so I reached for the goo-gone, but then went with WD-40 instead (thinking it would be less detrimental to the paint). Sprayed some on, then went to wipe it away and the white paint started to come off too. Quickly ran it under water to neutralize the WD-40, then dabbed with a paper towel to dry. Not recommended. Guess a more durable version would have to be machined and engraved aluminum.Read more

If you have lots of saws and chains, then pick one of these up. You’ll go crazy trying to figure out what’s what without this. I found the gauge to be accurate. You should not have to “force” anything to fit with this gauge. If you force it, then it’s probably the wrong size. For example, because this is plastic, I can force a .050″ drive link into the .043″ slot.Read more

Like others have said, made of cheap plastic not metal. I have had this item for a couple of months and light use. Paint already wearing off and of course its not etched so when its gone your guess is as good as mine. Should be labeled “Not for actual use” Make it out of metal and etch the markings on and charge more if you must (Oregon). Plastic gauge what a joke!Read more
