Kit appears to be good quality but I was disappointed to see that Oregon has begun making their products in China. They are a great company with a good reputation. It saddens me to see that they no longer make all products in the US and Canada!Read more

I bought this product for myself for Christmas, because my casual-use Poulan 14-inch plug-in chainsaw suddenly has a raft of work in front of it. I’ve bought a new house on a wooded lot, and needed to cut Pin Oak and Red Maple. My current blade could not get through the Oak. I managed to cut a couple of pieces, but it was taking forever and I wasn’t getting the decent-sized shavings you’re supposed to get. So I bought this sharpener, spent 45 minutes learning how to use it and putting new edges on my chainsaw chain, and magic — down I went through the oak and through the maple, making about 40 cuts in an hour including the lugging and stacking afterwards. So this critter did the job, allowing my weaker electric chainsaw to do production work on hard wood. Drawback — the directions are largely non-existent. I was able to watch a video on how to use the tool and make that work, but this comes with three files and I needed to figure out how to identify which to use. The instructions more or less consisted of a table with a bunch of columns that were not much help. I figured out via the Internet that my chainsaw used a T type chain, and that gave me the information I needed to decipher the table and figure out which file to use. So, it worked like a dream and got me, a chainsaw noob, through what needed to be done to get a sharp blade back, but without research on the Internet this wouldn’t have been sufficient. If you’re reading this you have the Internet as well, so I have no doubt you can do it as well as I did. Given the price, great pickup. Did the job once I knew what the job was.Read more

The case and other parts seem more than sufficient but the files do not hold an edge. They are good for one or two sharpenings and then they are useless. It is hard to believe these are Oregon. I’m guessing they are a Chinese knock off.Read more

I’m a guy who likes to sharpen his own tool blades and has the equipment for most sharpening jobs, but I still prefer to swap my chainsaw chains out to the local shop for their periodic maintenance, and save my time/this kit for quick field dressing on days with lots of cutting, or if I/my partners hit some dirt or are otherwise experiencing slow cuts in the field and don’t have a fresh chain to swap. This is a perfectly serviceable kit for that purpose. Toss it into a small toolbox with a stiff bristle cleaning brush, a rag, some bar grease and oil and a bar tool to round out what you’ll need (plus or minus extra bars or chains) for a tidy field kit for any long days of serious cutting.Read more

The set worked fine for my troybilt pole chainsaw PS720 with Oregon R34 chain. Three round sharpening files are supplied as stated. Use the appropriate one for your chain per enclosed instructions. The file holding guide supplied helps you guide the appropriate angle (25, 30, or 35 degree) when sharpening. There is also a guide to check the raker height along with flat file, if filing is needed. The raker height may have to be filed after several sharpening, this is normal for sharpening process. The files are probably not the highest quality, I have only used once with good results. Note: When sharpening suggest holding handle with one hand and the opposite end with other hand. Also, put rail in vise to hold in place. There are many videos that will guide you on technique.Read more

Nowhere on the product page does it say anything about the file guide only being able to be used with a 3/16 file. In fact it almost makes it seem like you can use it with any of the files. But you can’t. You’ll have to go spend another $10 each to get the proper file guides for the 5/32 and 7/32 files if you want to use them. If you need all three file sizes then you’re better off just buying each one separately.Read more

This is a great little tool kit that has everything you need to keep your chainsaw sharp. Yes, you can do it yourself. You’ll save time and money and you’ll also have some traditional knowledge under your belt. Heck, get yourself really familiar with the process by sharpening your own chains and then start your own little chainsaw sharpening business! Before using this I did some research and on that u-toob site. I found what I think is the best video teaching chainsaw sharpening. It was very a very clear and thorough demonstration and lesson– he even showed how to properly dress the rakes and chain tension (just go to the site and look for “chainsaw sharpening” and “small engine saloon”). After paying close attention to that lesson I took my new tool kit out to the shop and went through the chain on my favorite saw. It was fun to use this tool kit and everything in it matched what was used in the video. It includes a case to keep thing all protected, the angle guide, a nice wooden handle and three files of different sizes that should enable you to sharpen any size chainsaw chain you would encounter. After I finished up filing the chain teeth I took my newly sharpened saw out to give it a whirl. It was awesome! The chips were flyin’ and the saw went through it as if it were brand new. In fact, it seemed better than before! Maybe it was just the touch of pride I had in having acquired a new skill, but it sure felt good. Grab this chainsaw sharpening tool kit, go watch the video I recommended, and you too can be self-sufficient when it comes to keeping your saw in top working order!Read more

I have never used a gauge to file and sharpen my chain saw chain. I have always used my sight and feel. I tried to use the gauge that came with this sharpening kit, and it was the most confounded piece of equipment to use! The files included were well made and I have been using them steady all summer. The gauge on the other hand, has been tried and it now has a permanent location in tools to be given away. I recommend the files (which would be easier and cheaper to purchase by themselves) than ordering this “kit” to re-sharpen your chain saw.Read more

Product arrived within the timeline advertised, without any fuss. Relatively easy to use – I prefer the more manual sharpening so this was perfect for me. I’ve used it a few times and the chain is constantly super sharp now.Read more

Read more

Great carrying pouch, will never misplace a file again actually could add some of my own files. I’m impressed with the whole presentation and the the tools that are provided. No reason to have a dull chainsaw blade again.Read more

Alles dabei in einer praktischen Tasche. Handhabung ok. Read more

Bought this along with the granberg chain saw sharpener. Perfect to go along with it as it has 3 different size filing rods as well as a flat file and leveler all in a nice bag. There is also a nice handle. Good valueRead more
