Style:10″ x 2.5″ This Pentek EP-10 carbon block filter cartridge reduces fine sediment and chlorine taste and odor in residential and commercial drinking water. It has a nominal (85%) filtration rating of 5 microns. The filter will reduce free available chlorine (FAC) at 2 parts per million (ppm) by at least 90% in up to 6,000 gallons at a flow rate of 1 gallon per minute (gpm). This cartridge is made of bonded powdered activated carbon (PAC) filter media wrapped in a polyolefin pre-filter with polyethylene outer netting. The nitrile butadiene rubber (Buna-N) gaskets seal the cartridge against the housing (sold separately). The cartridge has an initial pressure drop of 3.4 pounds per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 1 gallon per minute (gpm), and operates over a temperature range of 40 to 180 degrees F (4.4 to 82.2 degrees C). This carbon block filter cartridge meets National Sanitation Foundation/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 42 for quality assurance, and is used for purification of residential and commercial drinking water. The nominal filtration rating is for a particle removal efficiency of 85%. Chlorine reduction capacity is the minimum total amount of water for which the free available chlorine (FAC) at a concentration of 2 ppm is reduced by at least 90%. H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back. Water filters remove undesirable particles, chemicals, and microorganisms from water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, or biological processes. They are made of densely packed synthetic or natural fibers that trap suspended particles, materials that block microbes or adsorb unwanted chemicals, or substances that cause a chemical change, such as acid neutralization. For most residential, commercial, and industrial applications, water filters are manufactured in the form of replaceable cartridges that fit inside permanent housings. Filtration systems typically consist of a series of two or more types of filters, each designed to remove different contaminants. The performance of filters is measured by the minimum particle size that is blocked, the percentage of particles or microorganisms that are removed, the downstream concentration of unwanted chemicals, the maximum flow rate, and the amount of water that can be filtered before the filter must be replaced. Water filters are used in a wide range of applications, including drinking water purification, swimming pools, industrial processes, and irrigation, among others. Pentair manufactures industrial, commercial, and residential water filtration components and systems. The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards 9001 and 14001 for quality assurance.

We had purchased Pentek filters previously with great results. Not so with this filter. We started smelling the ‘chlorine’ again after two (2) weeks of use. But we thought we would continue using it to see if perhaps it was a bad regeneration with the water softener. Unfortunately, that was not the case. This filter worked as hard as it could for about two (2) weeks and that was the end. We missed the return date by one (1) day and I cannot locate anywhere on their website a way to actually contact Pentek directly. Seems a shame to have to waste $50+ and no customer service venue as well. Lesson learnedRead more

I built out my water filter with gauges between each big blue. I don’t have any experience with other carbon filters yet, but I can tell you that the pressure dropped from 65 psi on the inlet side to 25 psi on the outlet. You can still take a quality shower at 25 psi, but I will be experimenting with a different carbon filter when I replace this one. I haven’t sent off any samples because I receive “safe” water from the water company. Water quality and taste have definitely improved, so I know it’s doing its job. I’ll update if anything changes or I do any sampling.Read more

I subscribed for this item a few months ago but unsubscribed today because: 1.filter I received in August didn’t last even a month when usually it lasts 2-4 month depending on outside water quality 2. in September I received 2 filters, 1 of them didn’t let the water through at all, causing overflow to my floor, I was have to open another one I was planning to use later. Then I noticed that logo looks different from the previous one it’s not a Pentek as said in my order but a Pentaire spelled funny. So I am wondering if it’s a knock of? The second filter from this order does work for now, but I don’t know for how long, Now I need a backup filter ASAP but have serious doubts about this subscription seller.Read more

Used this product in a Culligan HF-150A whole house housing – but used it undersink. The whole house filter cartridges are cheaper and filter much faster than the “under sink” marketed products. This filter worked great, fit in the housing, and makes the water taste almost as good as our rainwater system with a 4 stage + UV filtration system at a different house but for a lot less. We don’t do a separate sediment step, just this one. I’ll update review if filter doesn’t do well in the future. Update 1/10/2013 – still have it installed under our sink, hasn’t leaked since the day we installed it, and the water has tasted perfectly filtered since then. We have it hooked to the cold side of the kitchen sink so ALL cold water passes through the filter. You can imagine how many gallons have been filtered through it by now and it still is like new. No way an undersink one would’ve lasted this long. Also, the undersink ones can’t pass water very quickly. Since this is a whole-house filter, it easily keeps up with the pressure. You can’t even tell a difference from before and after it was installed, and if someone didn’t tell you it was there you wouldn’t even know. I will probably watch and buy several of these as replacements when they drop in price.Read more

I have used these filters in the past and they definitely remove the “sulfer/rotten egg” stink from my well water for several months. For some reason, the last one I received was an 1/8″ shorter than previously and I had to double up the gasket on one end to get it not to rattle in the housing. Hopefully this is a fluke as I’m not sure how effective this will be long term under pressure. I have had inconsistent packaging and quality on this product, but it does a good job on the smell. I use it in conjunction with a softener and iron salt. This is strictly for the smell and it takes care of it without any very noticeable reduction in pressure. If it were more consistent quality I would give it 5 stars.Read more

I have been using this filter with the Big Blue housing for years. I get clean & clear water at every point of use in my house. I find that the water tastes fine right out of the tap now, but ‘others’ in the house still prefer bottled. Note: in a blind taste test, they all chose the tap water! I use this ahead of my softener, and it strips out sediment & chlorine. The softener media has worked way beyond its suggested life span because of this filter.Read more

This is a great filter for the price. I have bought cheaper filters in the past and they do not get the chlorine taste out of the water. Always end up buying the more expensive filters to get the results I want. Well this one works great. Zero chlorineRead more

This filter arrived with a disclaimer on the side of it saying that it contains chemicals known to cause cancer and birth defects. They should really but that in the Amazon description. I would have liked to known this before purchasing!Read more

This is a good quality 5 micron carbon block filter that I’ve used many times before with good results putting it after a 5 micron pleated pre-filter. Note that it’s listed as 4-5/8″ diameter, which in the past has been a problem in some 4-1/2″ housings, but it’s now been slightly redesigned with thinner end cap plastic material and now comes in at 4-9/16″ exactly so fits mine properly. Unfortunately the one I received was very poory packed in an oversized carton and arrived with a broken end cap, but should still be useable, so not worth the hassle to return for a refund -still disappointingRead more

Pressure dropped below useable levels within 5 days. Typically use a regular non carbon filter with no pressure drop for 6 months. Resulted in tastier water, but not useable for well water IMO.Read more

Works great have ordered a few of these in combination with Pentek’s iron filter. Unfortunately this one came broken, but looks useable so tossed it in anyway as needed to replace in older one. They should probably use less brittle plastic. Not sure if I’ll order another one.Read more
