I have three dogs. The first won’t be included in this because he was a joy to leash train and walks perfectly. My second, a now 2 year old Aussie has been a nightmare. She slipped so many collars when she was a puppy I haven’t felt safe in anything but a harness. We’ve been using the easy walk for about a year but it’s inconsistent in correction for her. Usually it’s great, but sometimes it’s worse. When we got the third Aussie, who is now about 10 months, I got a regular kong harness with a front and back loop. After she was about 6-7 months old, we started using the front loop to walk her to cut down on pulling. Her attention span is super short and while she’s great in one on one training or in calm environments, it all goes out the window when she sees something even remotely interesting…like a leaf.

I love gentle leaders and use them on some of my clients with very large/strong dogs with loads of success. I was looking for an attractive fun style for clients who want their dogs to look more friendly/ approachable during training. The concept is great but in actuality the fabric and plastic adjuster are to slick to hold the neck correct size. You have to readjust the neck piece everytime you put it on the dog. Which can be difficult for clients with squirmy dogs and impossible for clients with limited hand dexterity. I will continue to use gentle leaders for the small percentage of my clients who need them but I won’t be reccomending this style of gentle leader.Read more

First of all, how cute is the Donut pattern? I have an almost 90 pound black lab with a lot of energy. He was always pulling on the leash and harness combo we had previously and would drag me down hills, into people’s yards, and even into oncoming traffic as he chased after animals. Not fun. Or safe. As the weather got warmer I wanted to spend more time outside with our dog going on walks, but all I could handle was 5 to 10 minutes outside with him as he was so bad on the leash. This gentle leader changed ALL OF THAT. It took maybe 5 minutes to set up the gentle leader on our dog so it fit properly and we went outside to try it out. He does not drag me around anymore! He walks at a nice, reasonable pace and we can now spend so much more time outdoors. The leader helps keep him in line and under control when going out for walks. The gentle leader appears to be made with excellent quality and shows no signs of deterioration or use so far. This gentle leader has really changed our lifestyle! There is a lot less frustration in our household and we are much happier for that.Read more

My husband and I own a 50 pound, low rider pitbull, who pulls A LOT on walks (she is all muscle and so strong). We had been using a harness with her prior to purchasing this but it was still so hard to keep her from pulling/under control during our walks. At times, I was too scared to walk her alone because I knew if she saw another dog on our walk, it would be really hard for me keep her under control/from pulling me (she’s amazing at home and does well when introduced properly to other dogs but there is something about seeing another dog while leashed that makes her freak out). Our wonderful, new trainer spent 1 hour with Roxy this past week and recommended that we try using a Gentle Leader with her. We were desperate for a solution to the pulling (we don’t love prong collars and when we adopted her, we agreed to not using any sort of choke/prong collar on her) so we took her suggestion. We’ve been using the Gentle Leader for 3 days and we’ve already seen such a drastic difference. Roxy doesn’t love wearing the Gentle Leader but she is getting more tolerant of it each day. Overall, it has helped decrease pulling SO much and has helped her learn how to walk in a heel position. My husband and I both finally feel like we are the ones in control during our walks. We even saw another dog today and, of course, Roxy tried to pull but couldn’t! It was actually EASY for me to guide her away from the other dog and toward our front door. I also love that Roxy can still take treats and drink water while wearing this.Since this sort of training tool can look like a muzzle to people that see us, I opted for the fun donut pattern to keep it a little less scary looking 🙂 Our head Gentle Leader head collar also came with a matching donut leash, so that was a plus!Read more

Initially my dog wasn’t a fan of this, but once we got outside and went for a walk and had some treats she did much better. Once she was used to the feeling of it, she did great walking. No pulling! She walked by my side majority of the walk. At first I had her normal leash on her collar as well, since I wasn’t sure if she was going to put up a fight and get loose. After a few minutes I was comfortable taking the second leash off once I knew it was fine. The size is perfect- she weighs around 50-52 pounds and we bought the medium. There is more room for her to grow since she is an 8 month old golden retriever. Quality product and fast shipping. I will definitely be buying another one for my other dog!Read more

Bought the similar head collars and leads a year or so ago in the ‘donuts print. I always use Gentle Leaders and find them very safe. The Poppy print ones look lovely and compliments my black dogs, however, the clasps/adjusters are not safe. They allow the webbing to slide through to maximum lenght allowing the dog to get free of the device??? This never happened with the ‘donut print head collars. I am so glad I ALWAY use a collar coupling or my dogs would have been free on a busy road. I’ve had to see them to stop the webbing slipping. Won’t buy again as too risky. I love this design and had to buy from America. Why are all the UK ones boring old plain blue, black and red colours? Dogs just wanna have fun too! Great quality – came with a lead, instruction booklet and informative DVD. I love the Gentle leader. It didn’t take long for him to get used to this around his muzzle but admittedly he’s used to balancing stuff on his muzzle which could explain his tolerance for this.
