I ordered the Coffee Crunch. As with the majority of protein bars with high protein (>18Gms or so), these have a gritty consistency, though it’s tolerable. What wasn’t tolerable were the cardiac palpitations (increased heart rate with pounding), the shakiness/nervousness, and the overall restless feelings of “jitteriness” I had after eating one bar. I typically drink 2-3 cups of coffee per day (and/or tea or soda) without any adverse effects, so I was surprised and, I admit, somewhat concerned. Imagine my surprise when the contents listed Yerba Mate as an ingredient – a plant-based ingredient that is usually consumed in South America and that mimics the effects of strong caffeine. It is used to promote wakefulness, increased energy, etc. While I understand that these are traits that some see as a good thing in a protein bar, I would prefer that this ingredient not be added — or at the very least, be listed as an ingredient in the description so one is forewarned BEFORE buying them. Like I said, I can drink coffee/tea/soft drinks without any adverse effects, but I did not care at all for the negative effects of the yerba mate. These bars are expensive and the fact that there is nothing anywhere on the website about this ingredient being included (except on the individual bars AFTER you’ve already purchased them) makes me seriously put the brakes on the other flavors and what might be in THEM.Read more

I had been enjoying these protein bars until a friend pointed out the Agave syrup content. Agave, has been touted as a healthy alternative to sugar. Nothing could be further from the truth. The fructose content in Agave is astronomical. From Healthline: Keep in mind that agave nectar is about 85% fructose — much higher than plain sugar In fact, agave nectar may be the least healthy sweetener in the world. It makes regular sugar look healthy in comparison — which is really saying something. For those of us trying to limit fructose, either for health reasons or because of fructose malabsorption, this is a source to be avoided. To the manufacturers: these taste great, but you are using what is considered the most unhealthy sweetener known. Switch to a healthy sweetener. I will.Read more

One of the few protein bars that don’t taste like cardboard. I love these things and I recommend them to friends. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend them here since Amazon’s price hike of $7.61 in less than a month would cause a distinctly negative effect on the taste. Thanks, Amazon!Read more

Probably the best tasting protein bars out there without any sugar alcohols like Maltitol, xylitol, erythritol and sorbitol which bloats you and makes you gassy. I do wish they didn’t use Soy. Otherwise a perfect protein bar. My package arrived today but in rough shape. Box was broken inside packaging and bars were squished.Read more

I bought these bars due to the fact they claimed to have 20g of protein. I received not a bar but a cookie shaped product with only 10g protein. The entire nutrition label on the product I received does not match what is advertised. What a scam.Read more

My family has been training to hike Half Dome at Yosemite. We did it last week! It was a 12 hour day. I had been trying different foods for our hikes leading up to Yosemite. Making sandwiches works when you are at home but the challenge is the outside temperature which gets hot in Yosemite in June. What I like about the Pro Base bars is that it’s easy to pack, store, and dispose. No preparation needed. They taste great and do not require a ton of water when eating it compared to denser bars or sandwiches. There are 20grams of protein which is good for one meal. We each carried two bars, a bunch of trail mix, and some candies. That’s all we needed for 12 hours of hiking Half Dome because these bars are filling.Read more

I have been fan of ProBar for many years, purchased on Amazon, Iherb, Probar website and others. At the beginning they were amazing (when it was packed in dark boxes, and chocolate covering was glossy). About 3 years ago I have noticed that Probar chocolate mint bars are a bit off, others did as well. I suppose recipe has changed which I understand time to time manufactures do that since it is organic product and depends on natural ingredients. I still continued to purchase. However, in recent months new and improved packing came out (white~orange) Unfortunately, the taste of the latest variations/productions is quite disappointing, chocolate layering looks like it is stale and not yummy, taste funky. I cannot longer support PROBAR, this product has dwindled down in quality to unacceptable level. My last batch is EXP JUL-13 2021 20104 I also believe that their claim of 280 calories is wishful thinking.Read more
