A warning for those with toothless cats: this kibble is much larger than most. I have been feeding my two cats, who only have front teeth, either Merrick’s Before Grain, Purrfect Bistro, or sometimes Wellness Core…this kibble is larger than any of those. It is large, flattish heart shapes and discs. I was actually afraid to give it in quantity to them–they would probably just throw it up, or possibly even choke! They do fine with most dry foods with a normal small kibble size, but by necessity are pretty much swallowing them whole. Rather than toss the bag (or donate it) I decided to just add a handful or two to larger quantities of the other foods with smaller kibble and that seems to be working. I’ll use it up in this manner, but won’t buy it again. Otherwise, it seems to be a high-quality dry food and the kitties do seem to like it, so I’ll give it four stars with this caveat.Read more

While my cats loved this kibble, it resulted in a hard lesson learned about feline nutrition: Grain-free does not equal carbohydrate-free. My 14yo tuxedo boy developed diabetes after eating this for six months. While I can’t lay blame at the feet of Purina (after all, I’m the owner here), I do think pet food manufacturers need to help educate pet owners about the dangers of too many carbs in the feline diet, and they should strive to reduce the carb load in their food ingredients as much as possible. Our obligate carnivore friends need a protein-rich diet and any food that contains high levels of carbohydrates, as this one does — pea protein, pea starch, cassava root flour, and sweet potatoes — is setting up some cats for long-term health problems.Read more

My youngest kitten (7 months old) has food allergies. We’ve narrowed it down to wheat, corn, or soy. I have a total of five cats and trying to find a food they would all eat seemed impossible. The ones my kitten could eat and liked, my older cats hated. The ones the older cats like that the kitten could have, the kitten hated. Not all of them could agree on a food they all liked. We went through every high end grain-free brand there was at the pet store that my vet recommended. My friend asked if I had tried this, but I’d never heard of it. I bought a bag at Walmart since none of the pet stores carried it. I was skeptical. My kitten ate it, she liked it, and she didn’t break out or vomit. Then the rest of them came sniffing around. Hallelujah, they all LOVED it.Read more

I was using the other blue Purina blend bag, salmon flavor, but full of grains, for YEARS. Best I can tell it’s the lighter color yellowish kibble as my Siamese cat will puke them whole or worse with my Maine Coon: liquified out the other end. I did some research and learned that grains are probably the problem. Cats are carnivores, duh, they literally have zero use for grains of any kind, so if there are any in the food you currently feed yours, you’re doing your pets a disservice. I tried a “pepsi challenge” of several grain-free brands, including this one, to see which my cats preferred. The bowl filled with Purina Beyond was always empty first. Maybe it’s the same salmon flavor they were used to, not sure, but they like this and best of all, no more puke or liquified poop! Yes this stuff is more expensive and comes in a smaller bag but you know what? If I never have to wash the backside of my 20-lb 1-year old Maine Coon again while he tries to maul me… it’s worth it.Read more

The quality of the food seemed fine, but no cat I knew wanted anything to do with this food. My cat likes the blue bag (Purina Beyond), hates this one. She wanted nothing to do with this food, and would barely eat it over starving. So I gave it to my girlfriend to feed outdoor cats by her place. They didn’t want it either, and they eat everything. Raccoons and squirrels seem to like it. Would not recommend.Read more

We have used this food for YEARS. Recently I noticed they changed the formula, and ever since then my cats have been sick. I’ve spent over $500 at the vet to r/o every disease etc. all negative. Changed food and all is normal again.Read more

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CAT FOOD. My cats are healthy inside cats. I noticed them throwing up and thought it was hairballs. My cat starting having issues with breathing all of the sudden and trying to throw up, like he was choking on something. He wasn’t though. He was drooling from the mouth and then died within 15 minutes. I though that it may have been heart issues or something. My other cat continued to vomit the food up, whole. I finally put two and two together… I stopped the food and my other cat is much better now. Has not thrown up once since: please please please don’t purchase this food.Read more

After feeding my cat Purina One for over a year, she started having some skin issues and was throwing up. I decided to change her food to see if that would solve the problem. Unfortunately for both of us she’s an incredibly picky eater. I tried two different kinds of Blue Buffalo as well as the Rachel Ray Nutrish and both were a no-go. She wouldn’t touch the Blue and the Nutrish didn’t help with any of her issues. After hours of browsing cat foods I decided to give this a go. It had a different kind of protein than she had been eating before, and I know that sweet potato is very good for skin and fur. I also thought trying a “grain-free” food would be beneficial. Thankfully, my picky kitty gobbled this stuff up from the beginning and seems to be very happy with it even after a few months. Most importantly though, her skin and vomiting issues have disappeared entirely. Hey fur is thicker, softer, and shinier than ever and she hasn’t vomited in months. I also feel good about feeding her this food because it has good, healthy ingredients and Purina is a brand that I trust.Read more
