Overall, a disappointing product. Most of the weeds I tried to kill didn’t die but were actually boosted by the fertilizer portion of the product. Preparation: The temperature at application was approximately 75 degrees. It was morning and sunny. The grass had not been cut for about 5 days. The growth was robust. The lawn to be treated was approximately 2300 square feet. I watered the entire area for 15 minutes before application to make sure all weeds and grass were wet. I set the Scotts rotary applicator to the recommended setting. The bag is labeled for 5000 square feet. Delivery: I walked at a slow but steady pace and delivered the product. After the application, about half of the bag was gone. That corresponds to the rate anticipated since the lawn was about half the size as what the bag was labeled to cover. The granules seemed to stick to the wet weeds and grass. I was pleased with the delivery. Goal: The main goal was to get rid of the white clover and, hopefully, the spurge. A secondary goal was to get rid of the lesser weeds such as some thistle and dandelions. I also wanted to green up the lawn a little more. Outcome: The directions indicate to wait at least 24 hours before watering to allow the weed control to absorb. I waited 72 hours. There was no rain during that 3-day period. First, the good news. Even after only 24 hours, the dandelions were curling. It was obviously killing them immediately. I watered after 72 hours and didn’t mow for another week. Unfortunately, none of the other weeds seemed to be affected. My “hope” was that the spurge along the edges would be killed – even though that was not listed as one of the weeds on the packaging. There were several websites and people that said that the Scotts Weed & Feed “should” kill the spurge. I can confirm that it does NOT kill spurge. That was a wish that didn’t come true. What was the most disappointing is that the Scotts Weed & Feed did NOT kill the white clover. In fact, it is thriving. Since that WAS listed on the packaging as a weed it would kill, that was VERY disappointing because that was the main reason I bought the product. In fairness, the Ortho Weed-Be-Gone also cannot kill the white clover even though it is listed on THAT product as well. The Scotts product also didn’t kill the other weeds – such as thistle – that was growing in a few places. You can see in the photos attached the list of weeds that Scotts indicates this product will control. The ONLY weed that I noticed controlled was the dandelion. It did a good job with that. But EVERY other weed I had in the lawn – from spurge, to clover, to thistles, to a few others – were not killed, but the fertilizer part of the product actually BOOSTED their growth. So, now my lawn has MORE clover and other weed than before I used the product. I would describe Scott’s Weed & Feed as a fertilizer with dandelion control. If you have other weeds I would NOT recommend this product. I will be using Scotts “Guarantee” which states that if I’m not pleased I can get a refund. I will post an update what Scotts response was to my claim and whether I received the refund.Read more

I’ve been using Scott’s products on my lawn for years. I especially like the Weed & Feed varieties to help kill weeds and allow my grass to thrive. I generally use the yellow bag of Weed & Feed in the spring (around March/April) and the orange bag of Weed & Feed in the fall (October). Note – I live in USDA zone 7, Texas. The trick to getting the BEST RESULTS with these products is to apply to a damp lawn! I will run my sprinklers for approximately 10 minutes before applying these products. I use a spreader cart and cover the entire lawn. When you apply it to a wet lawn, the granules stick to the leaves of weeds and blades of grass. Then, do not water your lawn for at least 24 hours, or do not apply if there is rain in the forecast. After 24 hours, I return to my regular watering schedule. This product contains a 2,4-D a basic broad leaf killer.Read more

This stuff really does kill crab grass. I had a terrible infestation of crab grass this summer because of all the rain we had. I never used any kind of chemical on my lawn and was apprehensive to use this but the problem was so bad, I really had no choice. It literally killed even the mature crab grass and didn’t harm the other grass in the yard. I did have to replant grass because some of the areas of crab grass were so big that after it was dead, I was left with big patches of dead areas. But it was dead areas of crab grass NOT the other grass. Would definitely recommend.Read more

I have used Scotts brand of fertilizer for many years, using the different varieties depending on the season. I have a huge problem, due to the mild winter here, with excessive weed growth over the winter. So I use this every winter to not only nourish the grass but to get the crabgrass and other weeds under control for the spring. I use this in the late fall and in early spring and this helps quite a bit with the weeds. You do have to keep an eye out for new spots, but I combine this with hit the new places with weed b gone and this double team helps a lot. I have never had an issue with burning the grass. If you follow the directions and use a spreader to put onto your yard, you will have no issues. Do not over sow the fertilizer or you will burn your lawn. I apply some variety of fertilizer every 3 to 4 months, with the Summerguard version in the summer and this Winterguard in late fall and Spring. Make sure you lightly water your grass immediately before you apply the fertilizer as that helps the fertilizer control the weeds. Also water your lawn thoroughly a couple days later to help the nutrients get into your lawn. This 40 lb. bag covers a large area and I do think it is a bit pricy, but that is most fertilizers these days, but it is comparably priced at around 45-50 bucks at the box stores. 4 starsRead more

I’ve used Scotts lawn products before and give me some good results. I purchased this product because they declared a newly designed formula which will kill weeds and feed my lawn. I applied the product according to the instruction. However, the weed killing effect are too strong … they also kill my lawn. My lawn turned brown in just a few days, not greener. When compared to the green lawn I have before and my neighbor’s green lawn. I’m very upset about this product. I really don’t expect this awful result from Scotts products.Read more

Product was applied 8 weeks before the first snowfall, and in the spring, most of the lawn was covered in snow mold (literally up to the property line). I called Scott’s to ask why this happened and how to remediate the damage, and they had no answers. The representative didn’t appear to know much about lawn care and suggested I treat the lawn with Disease-X (a ridiculous response since Disease-X is a preventative, and doesn’t treat a lawn that has already been decimated by snow mold). Given the state of my lawn and lack of basic lawn care knowledge from Scott’s, I do not recommend this product (or any Scott’s product).Read more

Product arrived as advertised: read the description, this is not a big bag! My bad, given the price, I “assumed” it would be a larger quantity. Shipped to Canada from the US, quick delivery. I guess the shipping is the expensive component. Lesson learned, don’t impulse buy late at night! Seller quickly responded to information requests and delivered exactly as promised and as stated in the ad. As to the quality of the Scott’s Turf product, we’ll see next spring.Read more
