I have never grown watermelon let alone anything but strawberries and just started that this year too. With that being said I did a lot of research, I germinated about 10 of these seeds indoors via the plastic baggie wet napkin method. About two weeks later (once seeds sprouted), I planted them in my raised garden. 8/10 survived and are growing well. I just pollinated one of the flowers yesterday. I’ll come back with an update once the fruit grows, but so far so good!!

I’ll begin by saying that Home Depot’s website also offers these seeds for 2.58. Best of all, THERE IS NO MINIMUM PURCHASE FOR FREE SHIPPING. I think a lot of Prime members are annoyed by the new “Add On” program where you need to buy $25.00 worth of items to get free two day Prime shipping for “Add On” items. These watermelon seeds currently fall into the “Add On” category. If you’re not going to meet that $25.00 thresh hold, then buy from Home Depot. UPDATE: As of today, 2/22/2014, Home Depot still sells these for $2.58 plus free shipping to your home or to your local store. There is no minimum purchase. I only planted seeds in three Jiffy peat pellet seed starters. I planted two or three per pellet, thinking at least one would germinate. They ALL sprouted. In light of this, the average small gardener will have plenty of left over seeds. Which brings me to my next positive comment: Seeds of Change had the excellent idea of packaging their seeds in plastic “zip-lock” packets. No need to worry about moisture affecting the viability of your left over seeds. I don’t know why other seed companies have not done this. My seedlings are about five weeks old. They are healthy and vigorous. It seems like they grow quite a bit. Every morning when I inspect them, they seem to have literally “grown over night” a centimeter or so. So far, the seedlings have not had any problems. I did get a white fly infestation on them when they first sprouted. I sprayed a weak mixture of organic neem oil and liquid peppermint soap (Dr. Bonner’s, available on Amazon or your grocery store). The problem immediately disappeared. I like that these seeds are certified organic. Also, the fact that these seeds produce a more compact plant is good news for gardeners with limited space. All is well with these seedlings at the moment. I will periodically update this review concerning the progress of my plants. UPDATE 4/26/2013: My seedlings are doing very well. There are lots of leaves and they are a lush green. UPDATE 7/1/2013: I have two watermelon plants of the three I planted. I lost one of the plants for unknown reasons. Both of the remaining watermelon plants are doing well. One has a fruit that’s larger than a golf ball but smaller than a tennis ball. We’re pretty excited about it! UPDATE 09/15/2013: Well, due to circumstances beyond my control… watering of my watermelon plants was very sporadic. However, despite watering issues, we were rewarded with one personal sized Sugar Baby watermelon. Typically you will only get one melon from this variety of watermelon, so we are very satisfied with our results. The flavor was sweet and the fruit was the perfect size for a small family! I highly recommend this variety of watermelon.Read more

We were disappointed with the volume of seeds in these small melons. The melons were sweet but just not worth it. Definitely won’t be planting these again.Read more

Of the 7 seeds I planted only 1 came up… All my other plant seeds (tomatoes, peppers, zucchinis, pumpkins, etc) which I obtained from other sources came up just fine. The watermelon seeds and my other seeds we started indoors, then I moved them to the green house. Watered twice a day. The only ones that did not come up were these watermelon seeds.Read more
