One of the problems consumers often run into is the premium cost of name brand items, something that perhaps regrettably doesn’t change when the item being purchased is a regular consumable. In this case, the consumable is the water filter for my new Fridgidair refrigerator/freezer. These appliances come with a nicely located and easily handled filter cartridge slot which takes the Frigidair ULTRAWF filter. The problem you’re dealing with is that to buy the Frigidaire version, even on Amazon & unless you find an incredible sale, you’re going to pay $40+ a unit an item that requires changing monthly. Compound this the last such unit I purchased not operating as well (water quality was not quite to expected standard, and the filter was restricting flow from the outset), and I was interested in finding an alternative. Enter the Smart Choice Replacement SCWF3CTO. Now, often, I have to admit I subscribe to the adage “you get what you pay for” in terms of costs, and at 25% less … well, caveat emptor applies. But the Smart Choice, when it arrived, excellent in every respect. It was, indeed, a “Smart Choice.” A slightly more compact unit, the filter has operated superbly. It primed quickly and easily; and it cleaned up and has maintained the flow of fresh, filtered water exactly as it should. Indeed, it improved the water’s taste over the previous Frigidair unit I had installed, and has kept taste that even despite a recent a recent water system chlorination by our local municipality. That, to me, is very impressive, indicative of the quality of Smart Choice’s filtration, and I’ll definitely be purchasing this filter again. If you, too have a Frigidaire or similar unit using this style of filtration, I fully recommend you too make the “Smart Choice” for yours!Read more

Currrently priced at about $20 less than the original Frigidaire ULTRAWF, this unit has the same basic configuration of the original (so it will fit). However, this model is several inches shorter than the original, meaning it likely contains less activated charcoal and therefor less filtering capacity. It’s too soon to tell if there is a noticeable decrease in filtering life, and whether the cheaper price makes this a worthwhile trade off.Read more

Awful. Won’t prime correctly. Forcing pump to labor too hard. Inconsistent water flow.Read more

The replacement filters I had been ordering for our fridge are no longer available so I tried these. Upon opening the package I discovered that this filter is smaller than the original. It is shorter and has a smaller diameter. It fits in the fridge, however the water runs very slowly out of this filter (even after running a few gallons through it). The fridge also made much more noise dispensing the water than normal. I won’t be buying this again.Read more

This filter lowered the water pressure and would not prime correctly. I had to put original filter back in and order a different filter.Read more

I bought my Frigidaire refrigerator about 3 years ago and all this time, I have been buying the Frigidaire brand filters for it. I got them from filters fast. com. The 1st year I bought them, I spent well over $200 for 3 UltraWF filters and 3 air/odor filters. I think a single ULTRAWF was running around $70. Then, when it was time to reorder, I went to their website and they were even more expensive! They wanted almost $80 for one filter. I see that they have since brought the price of the ULTRAWF filter down to around $42. (I checked today 6/2/19 before writing this review.) Maybe competitors like this are helping to keep them more honest so that they can stop gouging on the price of those filters and on the shipping. Or, maybe this filter is manufactured in another country where manufacturing costs are cheaper and perhaps the frigidaire brand ULTRAWF filters are manufactured in the USA were manufacturing costs are not as cheap. If that’s the case, then I’m truly sorry. Of course I would like to be able to support American companies first but, I also have a budget to consider and I just wasn’t willing to pay $80 a filter plus shipping at that time. And while I would prefer to stick to the original frigidaire brand filter, out of concern that an off brand version won’t filter out as many chemicals as the original, this time I just had to go with my budget. I have to say that so far I am pleased. When I 1st received this filter, I noticed that it was slightly shorter than the original and I was concerned that it might not fit. But it snapped into place and once I ran off the gray water, it has worked fine and the water tastes great. Can I ever know for sure that it is of high quality and it’s really filtering out all the chemicals it should? No. But, I guess you can say that there’s no way that I can know that the Frigidaire brand was really doing that either. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase. I thought that by buying a non-name brand filter, I might experience water flow issues but I have had none of that. Even though filters fast.com has come down in price, for my budget, I would still rather play $29 than $42 plus shipping. As a prime member, I can get these shipped for free and have it in 2 days and not have to wait for 5 days to get a filter. I think that filtersfast.com has also come down on the price of those little interior filters that go inside your refrigerator to keep odors down. They were overpriced as well on that site. I was able to find them on Amazon for little or nothing. I think I got a 6-pack for under $10.Read more

This filter is the same circumferance and connections as the Frigidaire ULTRAWF, but it is about 3 inches shorter. It does fit in place ok, but the water flow is severely restricted compared to the OEM model and flows about 1/2 the flow rate of the OEM.Read more
