The pencil sharpener works really well. I bought this version because I wanted a sharpener that would sharpen the larger size pencils used in woodwork. The regular sharpener I had before works well with the smaller diameter regular pencils but the larger size wouldn’t fit into the hole. This pencil sharpener fixed the problem and works really well. It’s very smooth and only requires one or two twists to get a pencil sharpened. The only thing I didn’t like is the fact that you can not choose the color that will be sent. I ordered two of these and got one blue like in the product listing and one red. They both work great and I am happy with the purchase.Read more

I am a college student and also homeschooling two grade-schoolers, and so we sharpen a lot of pencils. Although I just ordered an electric sharpener today, we have not had one previously. 2 years ago I purchased this item for the first time, because I needed a hand sharpener with 2 different sized holes, and the other sharpener I had bought did not sharpen our pencils! It amazes me that it is so difficult to find a sharpener that doesn’t tear up the wood and leave the lead all jaggedy. That’s the reason I was sold on this pencil–I liked that it left the wood smooth and put a nice point on our pencils. It was also easy to dump out and, like others have stated, the shavings tray doesn’t fall out unless you do it intentionally. For these reasons I’ve bought 2 more of these since, and we have worn them all out, albeit through heavy use. The main weak area seems to be the cheap plastic that the tops of these things are made out of. I broke the first one when a piece of led got stuck in it and I tried to tap the top of the sharpener on my desk (not hard!) to get it out. The plastic broke and left me with the metal only, so I ordered another. The second one broke when my daughter was simply sharpening her pencil–the black plastic top split in two. I am ordering one more of these now to have as a backup to the electric sharpener I just ordered. I think it will be great for that, but if you sharpen a ton of pencils like we do, then you might want to consider getting an electric one yourself. It will save you money in the long run! I should also mention that the metal blades stayed pretty strong throughout our usage, which was great. However, the big side of the sharpener does sharpen considerably more smoothly than the small side, which was okay for us because we were using primarily the fat pencils, but you might be doing otherwise.Read more

Read a review from another customer, decided to give it a try, so happy I did! Use this gently, not aggressively, a light touch works best. I was a bir concerned about the cost of this little hand sharpener, but found it to be well worth the cost. Much better control to put a fine point on a pencil while drawing, a hand crank or electric sharpener would have been too much. A little half turn and your point is back for fine work. Very highly recommend.Read more

Happy w/this product for use on colored pencils. Even works on soft wax pencils (Prismacolor Premier) as well as firm oil pencils (Polychromos). It’s tidy container helps keep debris to a minimum. I have not checked into blade replacement. Hope I’ll be able to find some.Read more

I’ve been coloring for years and FINALLY found a sharpener that doesn’t eat-up my colored pencils! Also sometimes it only takes one or two twists to get a nice sharp point. Added bonus: it will put a sharp point on your pencil-style eraser, too! I didn’t expect that and was delighted when I tried it. I don’t know how long the blade will last, but even if it’s not “long,” it’s definitely worth buying them whenever needed.Read more

I have only been using colored peincils for a few months and was tearing my hair out at the speed with which sharperners failed. Some after coloring only a few pages. I bought two of these, thinking I would at least be one jump ahead when the first one got dull. After a month of daily use (about 2 hours a day and at least 40 pages) the first one is still going strong. I like that it holds the shavings, although some of those failures did that, for as long as they lasted.Read more

I purchased my original Staedtler pencil sharpener while teaching several years ago. After much use by students in the classroom and by me, it is still an extremely sharp, easy to use, and wonderful manual pencil sharpener. If you want a quiet, easy to use, portable, and long-lasting pencil sharpener, this is an excellent choice. I have purchased additional ones as gifts!!Read more

After reading several reviews, and learning that that pencil sharpener does not eat-up the colored pencils, I decided to give the chance of buying this pencil sharpener, not one, not two, but ten. I tried one of the sharpener and I agree with the positive reviews that it work fine. Along with this sharpener, I bought 10 drawing books for different ages and colouring pencils. I decided to offer them to 10 children for Christmas and other gifts and distributing them through a charity. This might be the only gift this child could open.Read more

The media could not be loaded. Comes in assorted colours. My son is So not happy! Thought we were getting the blue one as shown; school starts after this weekend and a purple one got delivered.

But keep in mind… I paid under five bucks while it was an “add-on”. Currently I’m seeing prices in the double-digits and I’m not saying it is worth that. Nothing mind-blowing here… but it does the job really well. Certainly much better than the cheap-o small sharpeners I’ve used before.Read more

This little sharpener with a container to catch pencil shavings has sharpened many pencils now. Really sharp and so far, no pencils have broken (my previous plastic one with just a metal blade broke pencil after pencil). Great product and inexpensive! This sharpener works on regular pencils and the larger diameter ones used by younger students.Read more

This is an amazing sharpener, far better than any other mini sharpeners out there. Price was cheaper than Walmart and Staples by me. Not to mention I didn’t have drive to store and stand in line. Kids say it works great. Doesn’t break off tips and cuts clean. Bottom stays on. Highly recommend.Read more
