I’ve been successfully growing sprouts for 40 years, recently from 3 or 4 orders of Todd’s alfalfa seeds and several orders of Todd’s broccoli seeds. Then I tried the 2.5lb bag of Todd’s alfalfa seeds, but on my first try not many germinated and after 3-4 days everything turned into a mushy smelly mess. I tried six times, even rinsing extra, but the result was always the same. I contacted Todd’s (no telephone number so email only) and was told I must be doing it wrong as they never have this problem with their seeds. Well, read the 1 star reviews for others with the same problem. I tried once more, following their instructions (which were almost identical to the way I did it) word for word, and the result was same. A month later I send them another email about this problem, and asking for their telephone number, but no response. In the meantime I ordered broccoli sprouts from another company and I’ve been sprouting them for months now without any problem at all. I’m stuck with about 2 lbs of alfalfa seeds and I advise anyone else buying from Todd’s to watch closely for problems and not let the Amazon 30 day return period pass by until you’re sure you have a good batch. It doesn’t look like they stand behind their product.Read more

Finding alfalfa sprouts here on Kauai is either unreliable or terribly expensive. So we decided to do our own sprouting. I used to do my own sprouting back in the 70’s so was curious to find out if I still had it in me. 🙂 Did a tremendous amount of research and discovered alfalfa seeds are very expensive. Finally found Todd’s and decided the price and the quality were attractive. Well we could not be happier! I haven’t been patient enough to calculate how much we spend on seeds when we sprout with 3 tablespoons a week but it has to be a LOT less expensive then those small store bought sprouts. Really very little investment when you consider you only need a gallon glass jar, cheese cloth, rubber bands and small plastic bags once they’re sprouted. We put our sprouts in the fridge in a few plastic bags after one week and the we start on our next batch so we have a continuos supply of fresh sprouts. I forgot after all these years how much pleasure it is to do our own sprouting. And when someone comes over and spots our seeds in action makes for a great conversation piece. I suspect we’ll be sending friends to Todd’s. And I need to add how much I appreciate they’re customer service – making sure we are happy with the product.Read more

What an amazing bargain. There are lots of kits for sprouting, but I just use a 1 quart mason jar with some cheesecloth. On the countertop, I soak 2 tablespoons of seeds overnight, rinse and drain once a day, and in about 72 hours the jar is full! Drain, rinse in a large bowl to get rid of the seed shells, and dry on a paper towel-lined cooling rack, they keep in a plastic container in the fridge for at least a week (that’s as long as they’ve lasted so far). Great flavor, super simple, and 100% germination rate. And at $4 a tub at the grocery store, about 5 batches and the bag has already paid for itself–and I still have probably 2.25 lbs left of the 2.5 lb bag!Read more

These seeds are great! I have had very very high germination rates and they had the best price available from anywhere I could find. These will not disappoint you. I use them with the sprouting jar I got and the other sprouts I tried before these said they would begin sprouting withing 2 days… but it took much longer (between 4-6 days) so when I saw these said they would sprout very fast, I was skeptical but they really did start VERY fast and I had full sized, edible, dark green healthy sprouts with hardly any work at all in about 4 days. The customer service was AWESOME as well. I received n email when I ordered that included a personal thank you for the purchase as well as instructions for growing my sprouts. I received another email a week or so after I had been using the product to check in with me to see if I was having any issues with my product and if the sprouts were growing well as well as some tips for troubleshooting if they were not growing as planned (which was never an issue because the sprouts did great!) A+++ I will be buying from this company again for sure!Read more

EDIT #2: After sprouting these and having great success, I feel compelled to change my previous 1 star rating (due to an error I was told) to a 5. The seeds are great and the sprouts are yummy. Amazon made good on it all and I am happy with everything. I will give Todd’s Seeds another go after these run out. —– EDIT: Amazon refunded the full purchase amount and indicated it was an isolated incident. —– I ordered 2.5 lbs, and the sticker indicates a weight of 2.5 lbs. However, actual product weight is ONLY 1 lb.Read more

We ordered 2.5 lb of Alfalfa seed. Never had a problem with brocolli mix. However, we still have about a pound and a half of alfalfa left and it’s unusable, rotting soon after the good seed sprouts. We stored the alfalfa seed at room temp, in a dry place, same place we stored all our mixed sprouting seeds from this vendor, and never had a problem. We’ve tried rinsing more often; cleaning sprouting containers more thoroughly…. nothing works because much of the seed won’t sprout now and just rots! We’ve also tried separating the sprouted seeds from the rotted seed but the most we can get from all the effort is one alfalfa sprout sandwich. Until we can be assured their alfalfa seed has the germination their supplier claims for this seed (97%), we’ll only be ordering the mixed seeds!Read more
