I was planning on using the 4 AA batteries to power this, so I was first disappointed to read that the compartment isn’t waterproof. I decided to try batteries anyway, unscrewed the compartment with the provided screwdriver, only to realize there’s no way to pry to compartment open. It’s flush with the rest of the body. Even hitting it to jolt the door free didn’t work. I tried the 29.5″ USB cord next, but it’s too short to really be practical. When you turn on the power switch, it initially makes a loud beep, makes a spitting sound, and flashes the white “cat eye” lights” and then a red light. After that, a green light flashes every few seconds to let you know the device is on. The deterrent periodically kicks in for a couple seconds: flashing the white lights and then red light (back and forth between them) and making that low spitting sound, which I assume is letting us know the ultrasonic sound is going. It might work to scare mice, but it won’t work for my situation because of the battery issue. The device measures 4.5″ long x 3″ wide x about 1.25″ deep.Read more

We live in the country and need to park the pickup truck and other yard equipment in the great outdoors. This is pine forest, and rodents and chipmunks are everywhere. Mice and even packrats can get into the equipment and do serious damage. I spray with pure peppermint oil mixed with water, and that works. However, the spray has to be repeated every month or so or it loses potency, and I don’t always keep on schedule. I had a rodent eat through the tubes and wiring on my the truck’s air conditioning system, and believe me, that was expensive. I got this electronic rodent repeller to help with the ongoing war against the rats and squirrels. You can either use 4 AA batteries to run the device (not included), or, as I did, attach it to the car battery with the provided cable. It drains very little power. When it senses movement, the unit puts out strong ultrasonic sound (I can’t hear it so I take their word for that), plus flashing lights. I’m glad to add this to my anti-rodent arsenal.Read more

I was hoping that this would work in my greenhouse to drive the rats away, but even when placed less than four feet from a pot, it didn’t seem to make any difference. I can tell it’s functioning, as you can hear it click and see the lights flashing. However, after a few days, I still had no plants left. It does come with connectors to power it from a 12VDC source, which is nice. Maybe it’s strong enough to keep critters out of an engine compartment, but the wood rats in our neighborhood are crafty and maybe a little deaf. It didn’t bother our dogs at all, for what that’s worth!Read more

I thought I’d give it a try, and put this device above my bedroom because the rats are nocturnal and make a lot of loud scratching noises all night long. They wake me up often. They have not left and are perhaps more active. Sadly. It is not convenient to have to check it often, it’s been three days, and nothing. 3 stars.Read more

We had signs of rodents or squirrels under the hood of my truck so I got this. I’ve had it in about 3 weeks and haven’t seen any more activity so it’s either working or it was coincidental timing. I’m using batteries in it, I didn’t want to hook it up to my vehicle.Read more
