VIPARSPECTRA XS4000 LED Grow Light Use with Samsung LM301B Diodes & MeanWell Driver, Dimmable Full Spectrum Plant Grow Light for Indoor Hydroponic Plants Seeding Veg and Bloom

I picked up the XS 4000. I started with the VA2000, which works great for veg cycle, but watt to yield has been reported to be low for these blurple type lights. The veg and bloom knobs are unnecessary unless you are trying to slow growth by limiting the IR/red spectrum lights. And in that case you could go with a 5000k-6500k light instead. I shopped around a little more carefully this time around comparing models and was pleasantly surprised to find this gem in the Viparspectra lineup. I had considered going HID/HPS for the bloom cycle to cover reds and white spectrum better, but between the short bulb life and higher operation cost, I figured it’d be worth it in the long run to spring for the real deal. I turned on the XS 4000, set the dimmer to 100% and I heard angels singing in the distance. This thing blows away blurple LEDs. Going with a full sun spectrum is providing an awesome boost to my indoor garden over what I was getting with the VA2000. The more natural light color balance makes it much easier to see diagnose your plants correctly too. You’ll probably want to wear your shades when working under it. It’s also cooler. THe dimmer switch is on the light, not a hidden screw on the ballast. The ballast and the heat sinks do get pretty warm. I dedicated a fan to blow side to side down on the entire length of the light and they stay much cooler. For a 4×4 tent this is perfection. This led puts out even and consistent light across the grow area. I measured the par in different areas across my tent and there is very little drop off around the perimeter. The par did match what the manufacturer test report showed. You can’t detatch the drivers so there is some additional heat generated. Compare the pfd chart of this light to more expensive commercial light on the market and it’s a no brained to get the xs4000. This light has so much power that you can cook your plants if placed too close , or the dimmer is at 100%. You definitely want to leave more distance between the lights and your plant or turn it down some. I keep my light at the top of the tent 6″6 and have more then enough par 800ppfd throughout the canopy.Read more

Wanted better than the cheapest but didn’t want to splurge for top of the line. Light runs cool, puts out good PPFD as advertised. Covers 5×3 with ease. Only downside is it is not able to be daisy chained. Works well on a timer since one is not built in. Wish it had a way to ease in the light on startup but at this price point I don’t think any have that function. It installs easily and comes with everything you need sans timer. Not much else to be said. It’s a good light at a good price. It won’t outperform electric sky or OpticLED but it’s 1/2-1/3 the price.
